MarkAsRead for Gmail (Beta) for Android
Unfortunately it doesn't work very well. It only works for the last email, and notification sounds are cut off very abruptly. Using extended notifications leaves you with a simple 'mark as read' notification which provides no information on the email itself. Unfortunately I'll have to uninstall this and wait for some basic features to be fixed.
This has been an edition in custom ROMS. But, for those of us who don't root, this is an great edition. Simple at its core and adds functionality simply forgotten by Google. Good job.
Only used it for a day but it works great. I get so many E-mails and some of them I don't care to read so this saves me a few extra steps.
On a Verizon LG G2 on CM10.2. With extended notification off, the mail notification shows up with the Mark as read option, but when I press that, it just dismisses the notification and the mail stays unread in my inbox. With extended notif. on, the notification doesn't have a Mark as Read option showing at all and a separate notification just saying MarkedAsRead shows up below the email one...??
Crashes very often, meaning you have to disable and reenable access and reboot the app. Please work on stability. Does work with Wear and that is a plus.
Force closes every now and again, would love to see multiple account support. although I fear the dev had abandoned this as the last update was in march...
Hasn't been updated to address issues in over a month. Honestly, the best part about this app is when it crashes, and I get regular gmail notifications back.
Extended notifications option disables ANY email notifications on my G2, either from Gmail or from this app. It works when extended notifications are turned off and with Gmail notifications on (Gmail's notification ringtone gets cut halfway) and displaying only the first email that arrived. If there were more than one email then you still have to go to inbox and open those emails. But if Gmail notifications are off (as this app is supposed to work) then there are no any email notifications! Uninstalling.
In order for this app to be truly useful, it needs to work with all Gmail accounts and not force close constantly. This developer session to have abandoned the app. Too bad, nice app in theory, just needs work. Can someone else do this right?
I think it is safe to say that this applies been abandoned by the developer. I am running Android N Beta Build 3 and it crashes. Going to have to uninstall. This app was amazing when it had support.
Only supports one account. Would be nice if multiple accounts would be supported. Currently suggested is to forward all accounts to one...
Grouping emails is a problem though, can't mark all those read. On my stock HTC m8 the notification text is a bit hard to read. I also really really hope for this to work with inbox as well. But really I do love this app, makes it easy to handle an email quickly and it does it very well on my lg g watch.
Worked as intended on 5.0, but not on 5.1(.1)
The app force closes constantly and does not work afterwards, app is unusable. Re-starting the app doesn't work and the only way to get the app to work again is to restart, which then only works for a couple minutes until the next force close error. Great idea, but app doesn't work properly.
Buggy as hell but so desperately needed. Google need to implement this feature.
Great concept. Do the people writing negative reviews not see the beta tag in the title? They're getting a free app that, while it does have it's problems, does what it advertises and they still complain? Take what they say with a gain of salt.
Doesnt work on my note 3
I tap on read and the notification goes away but when I open gmail, the email is still marked as unread. I have notification access enabled and everything.
This app needs to be restarted constantly and doesn't seem to mark email as read. It's not integrated enough into gmail.
Does exactly what it says. Doesn't need root access and it should have been included in the main GMail application.
This app started out promising and has worked great. It still works in some aspects and on some devices, but the developer seems to have faded away. The app has many bugs and needs updates and I hope he resurfaces to bring this project back to life as it has really great potential.
Happy that so many are getting good use from this, but it's not for me. You don't get that extra Read button when multiple emails come in, and it really needs a Delete button. If those things change I'll be back. If not, it was a waste of money.
Why not add a delete button? It'd be useful
I've been looking for this for forever. Still confused about why it wasn't built into the app, but who cares because I have this app to come and save the day. The only negative thing is that it only shows the "read" button on things that would be considered in my "primary inbox". I tried to fix this by going into "configure inbox" and making it so everything goes to primary inbox. But that didn't work. I know it is still in beta, but I took off a star until this is fixed. EDIT: It works with the "Extended Notification" feature.
After some initial difficulties it works now like a charm!
No longer works. Emails still show as unread
Until then, this is perfect. Not requiring root is a huge plus, too.
My only request would be to have a setting to do Mark as Read && Archive (a la the Mailbox swipe) Edit: and they added mark as read & archive!
Works great. The only issue is I have my work and personal emails on my phone. When I set it up on my work email (while I wait for multi account support), now none of my personal emails are getting a notification.
Thank you!! This lack of feature by the Gmail people has always irked me. This fixs gmail notifications perfectly.
Seems to only work sometimes, with no real logic behind when it does or doesn't.
Default mode is annoying since the notification on your phone remains if you open the mail elsewhere and the extended mode that is supposed to circumvent that is much less elegant. Better than nothing but still a bit disappointing. Latest version is now 4 months old.
I bought this on sight when I came across it Aug 2014,as this is specifically what I wanted. It works well for a single gmail (I have several, but use this for my most active). Problem is, after looking for further info online for when features like multiple accounts may be implemented & seeing the date of the last update to the app, I would not hold your breath for any "coming soon" features. The dev was active here in the play store reviews & on a couple articles published on the app in March '14 & that's also the last time there was an update. Just something to keep in mind when deciding to purchase or not.
Aside from an update not too long after release, none of the promised features have made an appearance. Not cool for a paid app. Original review: The idea is great, and not requiring root is huge! I initially had issues but a reboot cleared everything up. The UI of the settings app is a bit rough, might be better served by a cards layout. Looking forward to added features.

I like the concept and am looking forward to future development. Unfortunately, the "delete" and "mark as read" buttons do not work, rendering the app useless. An update will most definitely lead to a 5 star rating.
I have a Nexus 5 with 4.4.2 KitKat. The mark as read button doesn't always appear, it's not very consistent. And it should be able to be applied to more than just one email, I have three gmail accounts and it would be useful to have the mark as read button for all of them.
I am running cm11 on an LG G2. This app literally does nothing. Even with the "extended" notification all you get is a notification below everything else that will mark something read, but does it mark all new mail read? All unread? Who knows... Not at all worth any money.
I had a good review for this but lack of development after I paid for it is outright crap.

Worthless app. Doesn't work at all.
