Tampa Bay Times e-newspaper for Android
Works great for me, I just view the demos though. Great app. :)
One of the best newspapers in the country gives us one of the worst apps. For all the reasons noted by other users it makes the Times unreadable. I would happily pay for an App that works instead of a free App that is pure frustration
Almost like the real paper in my hands and a welcome news source while on summer vacation up north. However, the default edition is south Pinellas and there seems to be no way to change to West Pasco as default. Downloading that version is wastefully data intensive after already loading the default and it never loads properly on my tablet. "Help" is merely basic faq's and there is no link to any support or to the Times
Never worked on my Nook tablet (as I mentioned earlier), but it works great on my new Samsung Galaxy Tab A. Highly recommended for Times subscribers -- with the right tablet.
Application stops working
Awesome. .....
Great app
Was getting used to its deficiencies and then this morning's paper is unreadable in article view. You read a line of an article then it flashes back to the list of sections. I use the companion Washington Post for my daily news and only use the Tampa Bay Times mobile app for the local news and Sudoku. Galaxy S5, running lollipop.
It does not let you view the print large enough without reading glasses.
Poor design
This app should be a complete embarrassment to the Times. It is essentially unreadable. It lacks a function that allows one to read article text in a scale appropriate for a mobile device. Many free apps do a much better job of accomplishing this simple task . This has been a problem since the inception of the app and apparently no one at the Times cares enough to improve it.
Won't connect via Wi-Fi only, tells me I have no (network) connection. Ten Pulitzer prizes mean nothing in 2014 if I can't access your news with this app.
Concept is great. Now they just need to make it work. Bottom half of page shows the text. Top half is a graphic representation of the actual paper. Spent all morning trying to get the text to scroll. No good.
Opting for the e-edition is useless with this app on a Android tablet running lollipop. In article view you cannot scroll to read past the 5th line, in page view, you can barely enlarge the image to a readable size. Worth less support from TBT. Perhaps if you want to stay on line and read the web based version the subscription might be worth it, but if you want an edition to read off line, better look somewhere else.
Terrible app
Tried it and deleted it. Wants my paper subscription account, or for me to subscribe.
Although this is a mobile app it performs more like a microfiche, and a poor one at that. Load times after zooming on my GS4 were horribly slow and inaccurate. Page turns were a button rather than a swipe. This app could greatly benefit from following Google's guidelines on app creation. Right now it isn't worth the space on my phone.
I don't know what was fixed in July bug fix, but this Android version needs to be equivalent to the Apple iPad/iPhone version which they finally got right (took long enough). At present, I CAN NOT SHARE ARTICLES VIA EMAIL as stated in their FAQ/HOW TO USE. THE ONLY SHARE OPTION IS TO SEND TO FACEBOOK - NOT good option. I should be able to email myself & others the article link and from that link, OPEN the ARTICLE and I CAN PRINT or SAVE. Been doing this for years with Apple version & supposed to be able to with Android. Then there is the LONG WAIT TO OPEN. If the TIMES wants readers, it needs to put some better effort into their Digital edition.
I tried this only because my newspaper was soaked by the rain. I'm not sure it was worth the effort. Multi touch zooming was buggy and resulted in zooming on the wrong part of the page. And the "link" at the bottom of each story resulted in a trip to some random portion of the paper. It's hard to believe that this was tested before release.

This app must have been created by the editors son/daughter for a high school assignment. This app is not navgiatable at all, with the content presented in images. I highly recommend getting a mobile app developer who knows how to work with rss and have him review the wall street journal or flipboard for inspiration. I am glad i do not have to pay for this in addition to the print version!
Quite possibly worst app I have ever downloaded. On Samsung Tab S 8.4.
NewsPaper
Could never zoom in far enough to read comfortably. Not what I expected from an award winning publication.
To download (WiFi) and render.
Longtime subscriber at home I was hoping this would function as well as my New York Times app but not even close. I suggest that you find out what program New York Times uses and buy the same one because the one you're using now does not cut it.
All this is is high quality pictures of the newspaper. As a result pages load slowly and the app is very clunky. Also, crossword and other puzzles (why I get the paper) are not doable here. I thought this would be good for traveling and such. I would not recommend this app. The worst app I have seen.
You would think such an established newspaper could afford to hire someone that knows how to create a mobile app that works. It is nothing new, other news organizations have had great mobile apps for years.
Pages do not clear up enough to read. Very poor app.
I got an online subscription last week and the app seems to do the trick. Not great, but functional. Seems somewhat slow to load via wifi (I haven't tried downloading from 3G) but it eventually gets there. Have to wait for each page to initialize while flipping through them. Would be great if the downloaded papers could be stored on the SD card instead of internal memory. Takes up space quickly!
Not worth the trouble getting this thing too work. Stick with the print edition, your a good 20th century paper.
Requires subscription but form crashes. Written by a six year old.
To download (WiFi) and render.
Will not complete registration. Uninstalling
Huge improvement in performance and stability with the latest version. Much better all around.
This is not a "free" app. It's a free platform for an account. You'll have to pay for the edition of the paper after 20 uses or so. Even then, it's not streamlined foot reading on a smartphone. More so a tablet.
Good but crashes after reading a few pages
Read....crash..read..crash...crash...crash..read...crash..,.read.....crash....crash....
Easy to use and navigate on my G2.

I have had to uninstall this app more than once for glitchy behavior. I have even called tech support trying to get it to work. Need to improve.
