Creating an action-packed movie is now super fun and easy with the Story Studio app. Bring the characters from the Sainsbury’s Christmas TV ad to life in your very own festive story. Using pro filmmaking techniques, sets and props, you’ll be well on your way to directing the next blockbuster.

The app can be used alone to make any stop-motion film you fancy. However, to get you directing a smash hit in no time, pick up an accompanying box set from your local Sainsbury’s. This includes two full sets and characters to get you started. You’ll also receive a director’s handbook with all the tricks and tips you’ll need to create a show-stopping movie. Even better - £2 from the sale of every box goes towards Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s charity, helping families be together this Christmas.
The app and book will even teach you some real filmmaking techniques. Never heard of a ‘zoetrope’? Find out how to use it alongside other animation techniques in the handbook. You’ll be capturing a seamless stop-motion video like a real pro in no time.
Once you’re happy the critics will love it, you’ll be able to save your movie down to your camera roll and share it with your friends. You can post it to Facebook or Twitter, or share it via email.

The idea if this app is fab. An interactive toy with the gift pack however I have disappointed children as they make an animation and the app drops, kicks them out and they lose their efforts. This is very poor from a good supermarket and feels like cashing in.

I was making a video with my sister and had spent about 30 mins on it when (out of nowhere) the app just closed and we lost all the pictures with no way of getting them back. You can't even save the project and come back to carry it on. Would not install if you want to make a long video!!!

The "sharing" is done within the movie file, so choose how you want to share it before going back to the main menu. I haven't found a way to edit the sound of just part of a project, so we've ended up creating lots of little scenes, however I then couldn't put them together as no other programs recognised the files... have ended up sharing them to YouTube then parsing the video file from there in an .mp4 format so I can put the scenes together using Movie Maker. Other downside is that it then creates a new movie file for each "sharing" you've done, so you end up with duplicates saved on the phone unnecessarily.

My child was very disappointed to be unable to use our old Note 2 to use this app. Sainsbury should make clear on packaging that most devices do not support the app.

Nice and simple app, that my 7 year old was able to use in 10 minutes, we added the sound provided in the app, but these were not transferred to the exported video. Tried exporting several times, and each time there was no sound. :-(

Great little app and myself and the kids loved creating the animation and doing the voice overs. It has its little quirks but a close of the app and reopening works fine. But the biggest problem is when it comes to sharing it creates a video at 0 seconds so an empty file which is useless, thought closing and reopening the app world fix like other bugs with this but doesn't so I can't share which is the whole point of this app!!!

Nice idea but none of the sound effects get rendered in the final movie. Music was there but no sound effects even though they play in the app during preview.

The best present I could of got my son .He had major surgery at Gosh so this was very special to him. Unfortunately the app wont share his movies????

We LOVE this app, well done Sainsburys for producing it. Really easy to use, my girls have made about 7 films, including using it for their homework. It is excellent.

The app looks good and the kit from sainsburys is well put together. It is a shame the voice over cannot be assigned to individual frames (unless I'm doing it wrong) as you are then reliant on text fields or bubbles to tell the story.

Nice, simple to understand animation app. Biggest flaw is stability - crashes without saving what you've been working on. Second flaw is that rendered (finished) movies have their audio delayed momentarily, so all your dialogue is now out of sync. Sort it out Sainsbury's!
