RYOBI™ Phone Works for Android
Got it (Infrared Thermometer) at Home Depot marked down to $10. Downloaded the app, plugged it in (properly removed the battery tab which requires opening the battery door) and it worked just fine. No issues. Once I was done measuring the temperature of random things I let the dog chase the laser. Worked great for me. HTC One M9.
Went to hd and saw the earphones and laser pointer were both discounted to under $5!!! Original price was around $20 each, so I figured for that price I give them a shot. Well I go to my car open them and test them out: the laser pointer never worked, the earbuds were tooooooooooo low!!!! Needless to say I went right back in and returned them :/ avoid these accessories
The app kept reading the stud finder as headphones and therefore would not allow me to calibrate. It had new batteries and just simply wouldn't work. Do not buy this app nor the stud finder until they fix these problems it is a complete waste of time I cannot stress to you enough complete waste of time.
This whole idea looked pretty cool, but sadly the device could not even be recognized, so I can't even try it out to see how well it works - it does nothing at all. My phone is on the alleged compatible list, so there is nothing else to do but return the IR thermometer and uninstall this app. Very disappointing. If I had seen these app reviews first, I never would have purchased the thing.
Completely useless. The app doesn't recognize any of the devices and will not connect to them. I've tried using the infrared thermometer, laser measure, and inspection scope. The app won't recognize any of them. This, of course, renders the devices completely useless as well, resulting in much wasted money. Don't bother with the app or the devices. There are many cheaper and more reliable options out there.
Could not find the Stud Sensor. Followed all the instructions. Changed the battery. Reset everything ... phone off/on ... reset the app ... etc Volume on max. No joy. Would not find the Stud Sensor. I should have read the reviews before buying. Now I'm another statistic. Phone: Galaxy S5 ... listed on Ryobi's website as being compatible. Apparently not.
Phone app does need some work. Bought Infra Red Thermometer. Had trouble getting device to connect; those having trouble check your phone after plugging in device you might have Jack giving options to open audio programs. Choose edit and enable Ryobi Phone Works. I have Lg G2 & Lg G4
RYOBI. I am an employee at home depot Merchandising Execution Team. I bought the Wireless Inspection Scope, tried to use it, but my phone isn't compatible. Reading the reviews a lot of people have the same issue. I WOULD SUGGEST submitting a project to Home Depot to have us install POP that will list ALL capable cell phones, as this is a common issue. I now have to return this item to the store in an OPENED, NON RE-SEALABLE package. As I said, PLEASE create POP that lists compatible phones.
The third graders you hired to build your app just aren't very good. Maybe you could get 4th graders. I am free next weekend and could do a better job. Nothing works, tried all troubleshooting, replaced batteries etc.. just wasted an hour.
Directions are simple, app is simple. PRODUCT FUNCTIONS HORRIBLY, if it works and doesn't fail calibration, it finds studs where it wants when it wants and wont repeat. What a waste of money and my time. So frustrating I will NEVER purchase RYOBI again.
Terrible implementation. The moisture readed quit working this morning. Try a new battery, went and exchanged it for a new one, it will not work. Wont identify device. App inssue. Why has Ryobi become synonymous with crap? They are the new black and decker. I wish this would work but i just cant use it professionaly.
To use one of these tools I had to download this app and create an account. They needed to know my email address to send me Home Depot adds. The app also wanted me to fill out a personal information section. I have no idea why. After I set everything up the app didn't work with the tool. Ryobi, you can't sell this stuff in stores if it isn't developed yet.
Temperature module must be trash. Two new units, known good batteries, software refuses to recognize hardware. These failures are really making Ryobi look pretty bad in the consumers eyes. Don't you test your systems before putting them on the market? Looks cool, good idea, just won't work. Galaxy S5.
After much effort I got the stud finder to detect. Unfortunately it doesn't actually do anything except randomly flash lights. Even holding the device still, the lights will change. Holding it by the side finger holds like instructed (a very uncomfortable hand position) but the thing just randomly changes left right centred even when it's not moving. Holding the phone away from it didn't help, tried airplane mode, disabled WiFi, no luck. Calibrated, tried different walls, nothing helps. Junk.
**TURN VOLUME TO 100% TO FIX MOST ISSUES!** Refer to Ryobi's website for phone compatibility list. Optimized for Android 4.0 and higher. Must turn volume up to 100% AFTER plugging device in for it to recognize. Works great for IR Thermometer.
im a contractor and should know better but thought it could be useful BUT after going through all the install steps 20 or so times the laser level still can be recognized. A simple bypass u can get the laser to light up then use a Tool Box laser app with it but this is why green tools are homeowner junk!
I really like the concept of this tools so i asked my friend to buy it for me. now i have 2 ES1600 but both does not work. it says " unable to identify the hardware, would you like to retry?"
I saw the complaints and I also had problems until I realized I needed to put aaa batteries in the devices. It worked fine after that. Ryobi's only fault is not making it clear that batteries are required.
Junk, junk, junk, really ryobi this is what you are selling? I'm about ready to put all my ryobi junk on craiglist, but by seeing these reviews I think I might be better off just giving them to the goodwill. Did I say JUNK
FAIL - Bought six of the devices and none worked properly or weren't recognized at all. My S4 met or exceeded all minimum requirements and was listed as compatible on Ryobi's phone compatibility sheet. Contacted their support and they said that the system wasn't compatible with the S4.
The tools aren't powered by your phone, they have batteries in them with the little plastic divider to keep them from draining the battery during shipment. The people having issues with the app not finding the devices are probably not removing the dividers.
Great to use, but once I upgraded my phone the app does not work. It has not been upgraded to function with newer galaxy phones at this point. So what am I to do with the hand full of phone works items now?
Just purchased a Laser pointer / Level. Laser does not work the transfer level is not accurate. Ryobi needs to fix their quality control. Very disappointed in this product.
Would give a zero or less if possible. Stupid serial number, really. Find the person responsible and make unemployed. Update: worked once pia to get working. Next change battery, reset phone, reloaded app, futzed around hours. Awesome idea crap implementation.
I have tried to get my lazer pointer/transfer level to work on multiple different devices and to no avail. My newest device is the LG Premier LTE. It tells me it can not detect the lazer and that i need to plug it in after i have removed it multiple times and insert it back in and then tells me if i am trying to plug in ear buds that i need to select them. Frickin waste of money!!!
I thought it was my device but its your app. It wont detect any of the tools i have. So what am I supposed to do with a $100 of useless crap tools. Update your app for lg g flex 2 then i will give you five stars but as of now i cant do that. Sorry
Bought the Ryobi phone works stud finder, on the recommendation of the home depot customer service guy. I installed and tried this app on two different phones, it doesn't recognize the device at all - so it's not the phone but the app. Uninstalling and returning the stud finder, will buy the traditional device instead.
Bought laser distance measurer on the way.to a jobsite. Fought with app for thirty minutes. Gave.up and called tech support where they informed me that the app was not working and would not be available for at least another week. Home depot should pull these from the shelf until they work
Bought the simple 4 dollar lazer pointer. Watched all the ryobi videos and read all the troubleshooting manuals. After an hour I gave up and will return to store. A product should not be this difficult to operate. Dont understand how yall are still in business.
I don't understand, I have this app on my iPhone and it works with NO problems what so ever! I tried putting this same app on my husband's smart phone and it doesn't recognise the SAME devise. Someone needs to get the app to work on other phones beside iPhones! Very disappointed! !
This is possibly the dumbest idea I have ever seen for hardware. Why. Why does this exist. Normal stud finders have worked for how long now? What happened to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it?'. Another case of instead of should instead of could we.
Don't waste your time. I wanted to keep all my tools in the same brand, so I bought this stud finder. Couldn't figure it out for 20 minutes. Finally calibrated, could never find the stud. Went to use next day, now it says it's a laser pointer or unable to find hardware. Waste of money, don't bother, buying a real stud finder today.
Like everything Ryobi sells now. WORTHLESS! In 20+ years I've had one original blue power tool go out. In three years I've had SIX ONE PLUS TOOLS CRAP OUT! I wish I didn't have $600 worth of battery's.
Apps don't work but nice to have earplugs/headphones. Removing app because it sets volume to maximum after phone calls or first turning on media player. Failed release of something that may be usefu
S**tty ... No other words for it.. level tool won't recognize in the app. Two different phones. Moto Turbo 2 and Samsung S7...
Dose not work at all. Spent 1 hour trying to sync. I had to turn off Bluetooth to have it find the device first. Then it cannot find a stud. My 4 dollars stud finder dose a better job
My Google Play services is not working since reloading phone and this app will not open without it. Why would anyone write code that depends on unrelated services? What if I want to use an old phone without cell service or wifi? Not very intuitive interface.
App won't recognize the stud finder. I have the latest version of android, I'm not sure why it won't recognize the hardware. I like Ryobi tools but this app and hardware are a waste of my time and money! Fix it!!!!
Tried the laser level on my old ZTE phone and a new galaxy s5 and had the same issue of it turning on for 10 sec and then saying it could not detect the device. Worked fine on an iPhone 6.

I bought the Infrared thermometer, the laser level and the laser distance meter. At first I thought the app didn't work, it wasn't recognizing any of my devices. I followed the troubleshooting steps though - plug the device in from the MAIN screen (not the tool screen) aqnd immediately turn the volume to max. After that is recognized all 3 devices and worked great. The performance is good for what it is but not amazing which is why I docked it a star. Overall I'd but it again. Btw, I'm using an LG V20.
