MagicLight BT for Android
I would give 5 stars if itdidnt require location when using the light. If i keep the location services off it will still let me use the bulb. Not required.
Latest update restored the functions that went missing in the previous one. Thanks for bringing then back. The UI is still difficult to use (especially for fine adjustments), and most of the functions are utterly useless to me. The sunset/sunrise timer function doesn't work very well - would be nice to be able to set the color or a sequence of colors in addition to length and brightness. Please consider for future updates. Thanks.
I have one magic light. In my bedroom, and even if I'm standing right next to it 9 times out of 10 the app will Not find it. Now my light is stuck at a weird dim level for nightlight even though I need it to be brighter. I'd rather go back to the non hassle on a light that works all the time
Update: After Reinstalling the App I'm now able to connect to the Magic Light 80% of the time. The real issue seems to be the range of a connection, if you aren't close enough to the light bulb it doesn't show up. I tend to just kind of wave my arm about until it connects to the light, but once connected the range seems to improve.
Does not work on a MotoG, lights become unresponsive when grouped. App is clunky when choosing a color. The Apple version on my iPad works much smoother, featuring control of the lights when grouped, as intended.
It works great with my Note 5 and Magic Light Bulb. The controls are just a little delayed, but other than that, it's amazing. LOVE THE DISCO MODE.
I emailed the company about the removal of the night light, and they promptly replied and fixed it the next day. Back to loving the app again
A bit clunky, but does the job and I love the bulb
Clumsy
Night Light function is gone! Like another reviewer, I used the color temp function to create a candle like color at night. 2000k was just about right. I can approximate it with RGB values but it will require a lot more effort. Hope you bring back this missed feature!
I, like many other reviewers, used the night feature a lot! Sad to see it gone suddenly..
What did you do with night light?
Great app. Never have a problem.
Where is the night light??
This app works great with my MagicLight Pro lightbulb. I have a Samsung galaxy s7edge and the bulb connected via Bluetooth no problem. The app has a ton of cool features and has never crashed or glitched in my experience. I don't know why there are so many negitive reviews
I just got the bulbs today. The app chooses when it wants to recognize the bulb. Had to check the reviews to see if it was just me. Amazon reviews love the bulb. There is also a huge privacy breech going on. The app wants access to your camera and can take pics without your permission. What kind of BS is that?! And why does it need my exact location? The bulb is a cool concept but super scatchy and a hit or miss when it comes to actual use. I'll be returning these bulbs.
The app is basic and gets the job done. However, I hate that I have to have GPS enabled for it to work. There is absolutely no reason to need this. If I am connected to the bulb via Bluetooth, I am obviously close to it. I do enjoy the timer and sunrise function. However, the lowest setting is still pretty bright.
There is an annoyance with the sunrise and sunset timers. Which is what I purchased the light for. They override any color setting that you have applied with other timers or manually. this means that you can't wake up gradually to sunrise colored light (slightly blue). The sunset and sunrise timers just need to maintain the current color settings, while only affecting brightness. If this were fixed I'd give the app 4 stars for having just about everything you might need, while feeling a little clunky and frustrating at times.
Just got my bulb and installed the app to all my devices Samsung Note 4 and Note 5 Galaxy Tab 4 all work perfectly. Easily detect the bulb and gives me control. Currently jamming to my Pandora Playlist while the light gives me great color changes and fades.
Had a little trouble pairing one bulb at first, but I just switched which socket it was in, turned it off and on once or twice and it was fixed.
I don't know why this has bad reviews... It works perfectly! I haven't had an issue with it yet and I've had it for 3 months now.. I absolutely love it!
Would have most things you need if the alarm fade colors were customizable. They default to soft white
Please add the functionality to (1) set brightness level and color simultaneously in regular timer, (2) full color sunrise and sunset simulation making use of rgb palette, and (3) smoother transition between brightness levels in sunrise mode. If all these are implemented I will rate this app 5 stars and buy more bulbs. Otherwise it is just an ok replacement for a sunrise simulator.
Explain why a short range Bluetooth based system needs GPS. The alarm feature defaults to white light. Why?
This app and the bulbs are great. For those idiots comparing about permissions Look in the for the permissions explained. It all makes sense. Get over it
The app dosent work at all, they have made it impossible to run the app without autherising it to draw over other apps, yet have not allowed that permission to be used, it is useless without this. do not buy this product
It worked for me I don't know what you all complaining about
No Bluetooth connection. It does connect once in a blue moon. Very annoying.
I wish the widget had access to different presets and could quickly swipe through different light bulb groups, otherwise easy to use app.
Turn Bluetooth on and off, restart the app over and over and over, but it has yet to detect the bulb, even though my phone is right under the damn lamp shade.
Worked perfectly for 3 months but now won't connect to bulbs anymore no matter what I do. Sent email to support no response of today.
Love putting the app on Pandora and just jamming out in the shower with the color changing lights.
Worked a couple times. Now does not connect anymore.
Turns off ceiling fan without having to reach
New just put it in. Seems great so far.
Works great.
having to keep the GPS on. It won't work unless you have it on. Otherwise it's great! You can control multiple bulbs at once and there's tons of options. Aside from the GPS thing, it really is a great app. The UI is pretty simple to use. As someone else mentioned, using the app through Android Wear would be amazing. There is a widget to turn them on and off, though. No need to open up the app just to turn it on.
Why does this app need to know my location? That makes no sense at all. Stop being shady.
.... And a huge privacy invasion. I will not recommend this to friends until it's fixed.

Too cumbersome to connect Bluetooth to the bulb every time. Might be just a glitch with Nexus 5x but it's a time consuming act to try to change the color.
