RunGo - Voice Guided Running for Android
Very useful for long marathon training runs!
I use this app for two reasons: I coach a group of runners and this helps the folks that arent as confident following written instruction and have no clue where they are going, and also because I am attempting to run every street in the city. It's super helpful, easy to use and I couldn't map the city without it. Great tool. Also tells me when the damn will hill will end!
This app is good for 90 degrees turns only. If you come to a fork it won't tell to bear right or left. It says nothing when you take a wrong route!
The ability to choose an activity besides running would be awesome. Biking, hiking, walking, etc. I started using RunGo in August and am really liking it for the most part. Today's activity didn't save for some reason but seems to be an isolated incident.
Make sure to turn power saving off for this app (I'm using MIUI9, XIAOMI Redmi 4x) and the app is good to go. You can easily import your gpx files from other sites into their site, analyse the route and add/remove voice instructions. You can even type your own bit of text and it will be triggered at whatever location. The issue of not detecting forks in the road can be easily resolved by editing the map and adding voice commands. Does exactly what I want it to do. I'm using the paid for version btw.
Great app. Easy to draw your maps. Pros lusófonos que se sabem ouvir em inglês, precisam mudar a língua padrão do Android pra Inglês. Daí funciona legal.
Paid for the premium. Used it yesterday, app didn't say one word. No direction/navigation from the app what soever. After changing the settings the app worked well.
Fails to give directions
I do like the concept. Use it more often to track free runs as opposed to fixed routes. When I did use a pre-defined run, I found I was way off course without getting any audio notification. There was a recent update - guess I'll give it a run. I am using a Pixel, Android 7.1.2.
This is a very good app. For those who have trouble with the GPS accuracy: I turn off power saving and it all work fine. When PS is on I get issues. I only use the app for guidance as I think the other areas are very under developed. There haven't been any really improvements since i brought a couple of years ago it which is a shame. I'd like to be able to organise my saved runs into user defined categories for example. I still wouldn't be without it though.
This app is brilliant. Cycled 60 miles relying on voice for route guidance. Impressive accuracy even when using cycle trails. Voice works even with music playing. Revolutionises running when you don't know where you are going
I took the time to set up a route and went for a run. Turn by turn directions never happened. Screens don't layout very will either. Was a wasted run.
First run wasn't great, but the route editor is a godsend. GPS is tricky at the best of times - more so when you can't look at the display - luckily the online editor lets you add your own navigation instructions as needed.
Saw this app on Dragon's Den and installed it. It is a fabulous app. Easy UI, nice settings, uncomplicated. The one issue I have is that the settings do not offer options about what is shared publicly within the app. So, for example, if you start from your home and walk to work, save and name the route "home to work" then EVERYONE using the app sees that. Safety issue, I say. I enjoy using apps like this, but am careful about what I post - on every social media outlet and anywhere online. So, in saying that, I can not use this great app unless there is a way to opt out posting everywhere I run.
Pretty good, the navigation is the feature I've been looking for. It has gotten a little confused, but nothing too horrible. Would benefit from a countdown timer for those of us who need time to properly holster the phone. Also like a place to view my routes at anytime. Route creating is much easier on web than in app.
I just downloaded this app an hour or two ago. Even though I was not running at the time, I downloaded one of the local routes in the app and pressed the "Run This" button to see what would happen. I heard voice instructions, but could not understand them since they were in a foreign language (not English). It almost sounded like Russian or an Eastern European language. Please advise how to set the language to English, or if I need to possibly change a setting in my Android OS. Thanks!!
EDIT - 2/14/2017 - DEV responded quickly and says he has a fix for syncing next week. Changing to 3 stars for now. Will test again. How frickin' hard is it to sync a map back to my phone after I update it on the web site? All I can say is it is a good thing I didn't have to rely on this stupid app on Sunday or I'd still be lost. I make a SIGNIFICANT change to a route and the stupid phone had no idea. It kept telling me I was off course. Time to find a new app. Is there anything else out there like rungo that actually works???
I've tried a few turn-by-turn navigation apps for running with and this is by far the best I have come across. Create routs before you go out, I've been exporting my runs from Strava and Endomondo and using the import feature to get the route set up, but you can start from scratch using markers on the map. My top tips: 1. Always go over the route on the PC before you save it, search for any missing markers or oddities. 2. The app does not compensate for shortened road names, such as LN for Lane or RD for Road, worst id DR for Drive which does get expanded to Doctor! so I have manually changed any road names before saving the map. 3. Occasionally it will 'miss' a turning from the map, so go over the route and makes sure all the turns are added 4. Add tips if you are heading towards a traffic island, I use the left/straight/right arrow and add extra text to be spoken so i know which exit I should be heading for 5. Add tips on the approach to large junctions/islands if you need to be on a particular side of the road to safely navigate it. My only grievance is the dr, ln, ave, rd etc not being correctly expanded automatically, other than that I am loving this app.
This is a very useful app for runners who like to plan their run ahead of time however the developer seems to be using Google maps to provide turn by turn voice navigation and it violates Google map policies. They do not allow developers to provide turn by turn voice navigation using their APIs. The dev should look into it before he/she gets into trouble
Decent app, could be a great one with a few tweaks. In particular the directions could do with some finessing - for example, if you reach a fork in the road it would be great if it said which fork to take, and it would be good to be told to continue across junctions rather than not having any feedback at all. Still, useful and good to help vary up running routes!
It does not adjust the map and other apps have more analysis, visualization . Still, it is usable.
This a great app! Easy to use and very helpful if you don't know the route very well.
Love the fact that I can now get my running distance for my trail runs. No more guesswork. Some possible improvements would be to include altering weight for more accurate calories burnt and possibly a record of all my runs to track performance and stats.
I wanted to give directions for a route we normally run to someone new. I created the route but because I couldn't turn off follow streets the route was off with KM markers at the wrong spots and I couldn't do anything of I made one mistake except erase and start over.
Love the idea of this but found the voice wasn't loud enough to be heard over music (or didn't interrupt it). Also allowed me to plan a run where there was no pavement, only road. Finally, the distance shown when plotting routes is often different from the final overall distance shown.
Used it both here in Australia and in Canada. Didn't miss a beat. Must have app.
This a great app! Easy to use and very helpful if you don't know the route very well.
Love it !! You will just have to try it to experience the fun it adds to your run
Terrible. I made sure I set it up properly with GPS and Bluetooth headphones. It didn't work at all during the run, no voice commands of any kind. It didn't even record the run, instead it reset my phone. Uninstalling this useless mess. Also, not being able to edit routes sucked big time.
This is a very good app. It needs more work to polish it up to the standard of MapMyRun, Strava etc. Once that's done then it will get 5! The turn by turn is excellent and very accurate. I use the route mapping on the website and it's the best one I've used so far. The editing tools and methods are excellent. I really like this as it is right now and am looking forward to seeing it evolve. I paid yesterday for the unlimited membership as I wanted to Support the development of this.
Made route, ran route, want to change route for others/ self, but unable.
This works really well. I mostly use it to pre-map my own routes before running in a strange ( to me ) area. Mnay of the routes which have been made available by other runners are not very well done - I think that mostly they are just imports of a GPX file from some other App
If I try to open any other app during the run (ie messages) it crashes my phone. Also will randomly stop giving alerts. I love the route planning feature since it follows the road and requires less pins, but I don't trust it to give me directions during a run. A 15 mile run took me over 3 hours because I had to keep stopping and looking at my phone for directions with the route I planned on this app in winding residential neighborhoods that I don't know well.
App functions as advertised. However, without an auto pause it is not useful, at least for me. I guess if you're a hardcore runner that doesn't stop, then it's fine. I'd use it for cycling if it had auto pause
Excellent for voice guidance around pre-prepared courses. I use it when cycling on new routes. The website has a reasonable editor, which will also import gpx files from other apps. The app can be used to record your ride, but at the moment there is no way to export it. This is apparently coming for iOS. The other niggle is that the website and the app don't mesh very well. Once you have downloaded a route to your phone (mine is Android Marshmallow), it doesn't update with subsequent edits to your routes. And so far I haven't worked out how to delete a route from the phone once it has been downloaded. Overall impressions are good. The voice is pleasant, and it follows the direction markers you have set in the editor. Pity I can't use it for tracking so I have to run Strava alongside, and there seems to be some contention for the GPS signal as both apps lost it and I have wound up with incomplete ride data as a result. TIPS: Before using a route, use the web editor to make sure the direction markers are accurate.
But very useful. I can't figure out how to delete a route after it has been created by me.
Love this app! Have been looking for turn-by-turn voice guidance for such a long time. This is exactly what's missing in all the other running apps.
Pretty cool app. Just tried it out yesterday. Got on my computer and put in a simple route to test it out. Worked great. I travel a lot and now, knowing where my hotel is, I can go into maps and create a route for myself, then run it without worrying if I'm lost or missed a turn. Gives me turn by turn guidance even if trails are involved. Very cool. Also if someone has already put routes into your area you can just download them and run. Awesome. On minor bug though, it doesn't like abbreviations. It will say "street" but has trouble with Ave (says ayvee) and Dr (thinks drive is doctor!). Not a big deal, just kind of funny. "Turn left on McClure Doctor"!!
I started using RunGo back in the spring. I held a series of runs through our city called RunTheBoro. We had groups of all paces from walkers to a 7:30-min mile pace. Each group was lead by a pace-guide leader who used the RunGo app to lead their designated group through an 8-10 mile route. We held 8 of these weekend runs and it was in part a huge success because RunGo enabled the pace-guide leaders to know where they were going with the turn-by-turn voice prompts. They could focus on their group and not have to worry about the route. I was also able to plug in historical facts about each route that the leader could hear then share with the group. Awesome! We've continued to use the app ever since with our weekly group runs. This way I can vary the routes each week for my runners keeping it fun and fresh and at the same time, not have to worry about them getting lost! Truly and awesome app and tool to have as a running coach. Highly recommended.

Really good app for completing a run you haven't done before. Just used it on a long run and the combination of directions plus being able to view the map as you run was great. On my pc I was able to add in extra way points to give me additional directions at places where I thought I might go wrong such as multiple choices of paths.
