About Bearing - Android wear compass

The Moto 360 does not have a magnetometer. The compass has problems finding North. Support for the Moto 360 is limited

This is a compass for your Android Wear with a unique Pointer mode. Feel when you are heading in the right direction.

The compass has two modes:
Normal: use it as you would use any compass app.

Pointer mode: stretch your arm and point. The watch will start buzzing when you are pointing to the set bearing.

Switch between the modes by swiping the screen (left is normal, right is pointer mode)

Tap the screen to say your bearing: "Bearing north west", "Bearing 38 degrees".

On the phone you can set your bearing by placing a marker on your desired location. The bearing is adjusted during your travels.

The compass is calibrated, but only points north for like 5 seconds then slowly turns even though i am stationary. (SW3)

What a shame, great functionality but unusable as it kills my watch battery in about 30mins ????

Installed on Gear Live. Shows on phone, but is missing on watch. Where is it?

Works perfectly on LG G Watch, accuracy is spot on and the voice activated bearings is great

Although limited support for Moto 360, will work when synchronized with host device.

North registers 350 degrees. Could be calibration on my watch. Did not find an option to calibrate the app.

It works great on my Huawei Watch! Thank you for making it!

C70%
by C####:

So far so good.

C70%
by C####:

It really needs an ambient mode. With my Sony Smart watch 3 it burned through 11% battery in 10 minutes. Deserves more stars if the battery issue is fixed.

I don't have a smart watch, but would like to use pointer mode to have my phone buzz when I am facing North. Please add this feature.

C70%
by C####:

Works really well and has a great UI on my phone bit disappointed to find out that Motorola didn't include a magnetometer in the 360 but that doesn't really matter

C70%
by C####:

Install it, works. But after a while it disappears from my LG g R.

This app works perfectly and looks great on my LG Watch Urbane. It's simple but adequate. It has a nice vibrating feature at the North point. The UI on the phone is nice too.

K70%
by K####:

This app is great and has great user interface. But when in Pointer mode, why does my LG G Watch vibrate nonstop close to the right edge of the green pointer pointing north? And in degrees near that edge, it just pulsates in vibration. Is that a glitch?

K70%
by K####:

Brilliant app on the galaxy note 4, best compass so far. Looks good on the moto 360 watch, but seems to be exactly 90 degrees out (seems to be a common problem with this watch)

This app kicks!!! Is setting a bearing the same thing as setting a waypoint? If not, then how do you set a waypoint? Thanks in advance ;)

K70%
by K####:

But it's been uninstalling on its own, and then reinstalling, randomly, which has rendered a big-enough watch-battery suck at inopportune times, plus a notification I don't need, especially given how often I use it.

This is an excellent app. But I find the pointer mode setting not working as I have set it to right hand yet the pointer in my Smartwatch 3 stays at left hand mode. Please fix this and 5 stars for sure!

It doesn't actually show up in my apps on the watch anymore. It did for several months... So I am currently using a different compass. G watch r

Nice but inaccurate. North keeps changing even when holding it still and completely level.

K70%
by K####:

Great for the confused

E70%
by E####:

The app looks great. I have it on my phone and it is accurate. Interestingly on my brand new Asus Zenwatch 2 the bearings are exactly opposite the correct bearing. For example when pointing North the app says South and East is West etc. I think this is probably an issue with my hardware and not the software, but wanted the developers and users of this model of watch to be aware.

Does not work with gear 2

E70%
by E####:

Werkt goed als gimmick ik weet alleen niet hoe goed als echt kompas. Ook is de wear integratie erg goed en bijna naadloos. Ga zo door!

K70%
by K####:

Excellent design, works perfectly.

K70%
by K####:

Calibrating the hardware compass doesn't seem to do anything as it might just be a very inaccurate chipset in the Moto360. It would be good if there was a way to calibrate the bearing by comparing against the phone's bearing.

X70%
by X####:

after that not much luck.. app disappears from the wear device (LG G Watch) and then the phone app compass stops working (Map section only seems to work with a data connection).

S70%
by S####:

This would be great if the compass in my SW3 would work, as it is the watch pointer wanders a lot while I'm standing still and even doing the calibration dance doesn't improve it significantly.

X70%
by X####:

Great app - nice haptic feedback to find north. Innovative and shows potential of wrist mounted haptic interfaces for situational awareness. App dev is super fast with updates too!

Simple, easy to use, useful as the use cases are well thought out. TIP: to calibrate most android magnetometer chips (compass chips) in android: rotate the watch slowly, 3 times, for each of 3 axis planes (N-S, E-W, Up-Down). If you don't understand, search for 'calibrate compass using GPS essentials'). It's the same technique and worked for me.

G70%
by G####:

The moto 360 *does* have a built in magnetometer. Other compass apps work properly on this device so please don't be deterred if you are a Moto 360 user.

L70%
by L####:

this seems to work on my moto 360 if I offset it 180 deg, please give an option to remove the warning when starting the app on the moto screen. works perfectly on my htc phone

X70%
by X####:

Running on an HTC One M8. Word of caution. Do not install or move to SD card. Love the map function too. 5 stars. One of the precious few Android Wear apps that actually hit the nail on the head.
