RootsMagic for Android
This software is useless on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. I could not open my database from Dropbox, neither if I copy the file directly to the Tab. Only the basic explanation page opens touching the buttons for VIEW, List, Tools at the bottom of the screen. This explanation is even worse, eg there is no Refresh button on the top of the screen when I see blank page during connecting to my Dropbox.
Works very good on my phone to look up things on my database. Not so good to update database info on phone .
This app has potential. But, I don't want to use Dropbox. I just copied my genealogy files to my phone. But, this app can't even let me look at the files on my phone. This is a problem that needs to be fixed!
It does not work unless you link it to your dropbox that is a ridiculous task in itself. I'm going to use a different app.
Completely unusable. Cannot browse the local filesystem to open a .ged file. UI is bizarre. Clearly not written by a real Android developer.
Bit clunky, and the pictures don't expand to very good quality. Overall though it does what it says
Always have to load twice... Crashes the first try. Interface is clumsy and not intuitive.
Sickening Apps...a must to login to dropbox...no dropbox no use apps...uninstall and will never use this apps again.
Doesn't work on o phone nor tablet
CONDUCTED RESEARCH FOR U.S. GOVERNMENT.
Only app I can access my genealogy.
Very complete and excellent format
Doesn't work
Geart way to search family history.

This app is great for when im out talking with family. Note that you cannot edit anything on this app, as it is view only, so you will need the rootsmagic software on your computer. As for the people concerned with using dropbox, that is a personal sharing tool and only the people who have your login can view your files. You are not posting all your personal information on the internet. I have been using roots magic for almost 10 years now and it still is by far the best genealogy software I have come by.
Very poòr app. Tried to load it on both a Galaxy Tab S and a Galaxy S5 neither would show the files in dropbox. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. It is now 5/3/2016 and the results are still the same
Gorgeous! Not ready for mobile prime time. Crashes my Tab3 10.1 tablet often. Extremely slow for every action. Virtually impossible to edit anything. This is my favorite pc app. Too bad I can't have the same on my tablet. Will look elsewhere for now. Hope the devs will keep at it.
I like the Rootsmagic Software. I am doing autosomal DNA match research by creating individual trees for each match. I counted on being able to work on this project at my sister's house for Thanksgiving. It is not possible to CREATE a family tree. It may not be possible to add people to an exiting tree. Only button I could find is "edit". No toolbars, no menus. This app may be mostly for showing your trees to family! There are people who do all of their genealogical research using a tablet; obviously they are not using this app. Last, but hardly least, this app won't work except through Dropbox and you HAVE to link the app to Dropbox. Dropbox is the most dangerous, not to mention, the most useless, service, ever invented. Decide you don't want to store any given file or folder on ANY device, or on Dropbox itself, and it auto-deletes from ALL your devices! Legacy Family Tree has an app that allegedly is actually funcitonal. You can create trees, and you can sync through USB if you want to, just for starters. I prefer Rootsmagic, I find it much easier to use, but the fact that I can't use it on a tablet will definitely shape my choices of genealogical software.

I would rate it fine if I could actually SEE the files. You cant zoom or see the tree at all because it is so small. I just purchased full version on my laptop assuming I could use the same on my tablet and theres no way I could do anything on this other than clicking every single person in the tree to be able to actually see it. MAKE AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE PAID ROOTSMAGIC 7 FOR TABLETS
Needs to be able to load files local

I found this app simple to use, fast and efficient. The Dropbox syncing works well. It is only a viewer - you can only create and edit family trees on your desktop - this app is just for looking at them.
At this point rather useless. I haven't found any that work well on mobile devices.
Ancestry said this is the new FTM option they will support. Ridiculous.
A very bad endorsement for RootsMagic & MyHeritage . We are now upto Marshmallow on Android , yet this company have yet to get this to work on Lollipop ? Was interested in buying Rootsmagic 7 for desktop , but after this awful show of lack of development and poor programming skills , I wouldnt touch anything from either company , Ever !
It will ONLY read files from dropbox. BAD! I don't use drop box, I ftp files to my tablet via wifi. The option to open a file from storage/local device does NOTHING! I am not impressed. I use RootsMagic on my laptop and like it, but the android version sucks
I couldn't get it to work on several separate occasions. What a waste of time and aggravation!
App did not download the media files just references too them
And who wants to upload their private personal history data to a cloud somewhere in cyberspace to be able to use this app?? Only a moron or someone who works for the cloud company and therefore knows who has access to their files.
Works very well on my samsung tab 3. Data file loaded first time. Don't understand why others are having problems. Have used Roots Magic for many years and cant fault the support provided.
Seems to be a great problem with Rootsmagic updating app after Lollipop android upgrade. Samsung Tab S 10.5
Can't read files from cloud or device.
May 7, 2015: My original review in July 2014 said RM was nearly useless because of tiny print, and unreliability. On my old Galaxy S3 (KitKat), it often only started after several retries. On my Galaxy Note 4 (Lollipop): RM installed, linked w/Dropbox, loaded local database, then stopped. UPDATE: it now works fine! Thank you!
For a Google Nexus Seven. Installed it and it opened OK. Downloaded a family file and it displayed OK for a couple of minutes and then the app stopped. Now on opening it immediately stops. I reinstalled it with the same result. Please fix.
Works fine most the time. How can I un-crash it after it has crashed? Is there anything I can do? I did find on my own to use the settings app for the android to clear all databases on RootsMagic app. Now it's working great! Thank you for providing a way to take the family records with you when one goes out on the field and does research.
One star until I am not forced into using additional app (dropbox) just to copy files.

Installed, followed the instructions exactly and nothing shows up on the android device, not even a "refresh" button they they state that apparently is in the upper right, nothing there. Doublechecked dropbox to make sure that there was a rootsmagic folder with the gedcom file in it. After getting help from RM admins on their facebook page it was determined that gedcom will not work but RM database file had to be imported into dropbox, finally got the app to work. The pedigree view is basically only readable with a handheld magnifying glass if it is a smartphone, but a little better with family and individual views. From my experience with them, they do try hard to help and the customer service has been good. I am confident that this app will evolve and get better.
