Roku for Android
Getting really frustrated with the app developers who continually ignore this bug. Thinking about switching to a different streaming device. Private listening keeps locking up. Closing app doesn't help. Have to force the app to stop. Motorola Droid turbo.
Was working ok. Stopped working after the last "Verizon Security Update". This app will no longer log on to my Roku TV. message says, "check wifi connection" and that the IP address is correct. I tried both the IP address and the Roku TV address. Nothing works. updates, updates, updates???? Update 1/24/2018: The App update fix my phone remote issues. I am totally pleased. They do read the comments. ????
Update: Can't turn on TV with app, which makes it fairly useless. UI is better than on my TCL Roku TV. Makes adding channels a snap. Still a bit perplexed as to why there's not a numeric keypad for going straight to channels on this app though.
Poor replacement for an actual remote with jack and vol control. An issue compounded by unavailability of such remotes on Roku store. But at least it doesn't have the arbitrary constantly changing and unreprogrammable channel keys like the physical remotes.
Great if your remote broke or you don't actually have one. Only problem for the remote is that the keyboard doesn't sync with the TV, so you have to input manually. It's great that you can switch to your channels at anytime you want. Private listening is a great bonus, as the sound from the TV now comes from you phone.
Upon unlocking phone to use active app, it immediately says No Wi-Fi. Then I have to go through multi screens to get back to using it. Needs a slight delay while unlocked phone finds Wi-Fi. It's over reacting ????
The roku app used to work, now it sees my device but can't connect. Even tried manually typing in my up address. Sadly I have to use the (terrible) rokie app now. It's awful but it is functional unlike the official app.
Downloaded app after I spilled water on my Roku remote, which this app far exceeds in practicality. I love being able to type with my phone's keyboard, rather than the dreadful keypad which took forever to input what I wanted to watch. Only downside is having to switch to the app. I'm not aware if there is an option to have the remote portion tied to the lockscreen itself, but that would be incredibly useful.
Some apps like SLING gets stuck when Increasing the volume with side buttons of phone by app. And it pushes the volume to the TV MAX. I had to unplug the power several times, fix this and let me know. I'll update the ratings.
Great app works well. But it's annoying sometimes, ie when waking the phone the wifi needs like 2 secs to reactivate. But this app doesn't wait and makes you go to the network settings. By the time you get there it's already connected. Seems nitpicky but it is not elegant programming.
Flawlessly does everything I have use it for. I especially like that I can stream the sound to my phone then connect a Bluetooth headset. Perfect on them restless nights, watch TV full blast, without bothering your better half. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven't tried everything it offers yet. I'll update with time.
I use this app whenever I lose my remote, and it's simple enough to do that. I don't care about the rest of the content in the app. In fact, I find it irritating that I need to wait for all of the content in "what's on" to load before I can pause my show. I'm not interested in what's trending, only in what I'm watching.
«It is helpful specially when my remote control doesn't want to work.» I wrote that before last update (10/2016). The new update brings a very hard to pause and to play. Your fingers needs to be really skinny. I wish the old one back.
Great companion app to Roku service. Aside from being able to look up any show or movie by title, actor or director the app also doubles as a backup remote for your Roku device. When you look things up, you can see if it's showing on any of your streaming channels - and if it isn't at the moment, you can follow it and be notified when it is. I love this app! Highly recommended for all Roku users.
-Great App. I've been using it for @ least 50+ hours weekly for 3 months. -There are some Apps that Aren't Compatible. CraveTV Is one of these Apps. -I Absolutely Love my Roku. It's the device I use the most. -Currently I've been using my Roku more than I use my Cell phone. I just find that it's a little odd.
This app is awesome... Whenever it feels like working. It gets me so frustrated. It only works less than half the time and very seldom will it actually power on the TV. Usually I have to at least turn the TV on with the remote it came with and then if I'm lucky I might get the app to switch channels.. Two stars for frustration and disappointment, ten if you manage to fix it
I've only used the Roku app a little, for a few days. It seems very well designed. I'd like a button in the app to turn closed captioning on and off. This is much easier than using the simplistic remote. Even the remote is good at what it does, but typing on my phone's keyboard [Search mode, service login) is much easier than on the TV.
I'm giving it 3 stars based on its private listening feature. Not sure if it's my phone or the app, but it's gotten worse than it already was. The audio lags behind the video by about 2 seconds. It makes it basically impossible to watch using that feature. Everything else about the app works great, and I'd be happy to raise it to 5 stars it that issue were resolved.
I doubt if anyone from the company even reads these but I have been having the hardest time getting my app to use the volume controls. It wants to instantly run to maximum sound or all the way to 0. If this bug were fixed I would come back and fix this review to a full five stars. Other than that issue though I love the roku system.
What a great idea. Not only can I add my own channels. Outside the standard 4 included on the remote, but it doubles as an actual remote so I don't need to get up and fish for one when I forget it on the couch. Makes typing on scree a breeze as well
Remote works well except for the fact that when you do a search it only opens up the program. Honestly it would be a Five Star product if the search feature actually work properly. If I do a search up with my remote it works just fine; I don't know what the differences.
PLEASE FIX YOUR CHANNEL LIST for antenna/cable!!! I would favorite channels because I wanted to access them quickly without scrolling forever (because your remotes don't come with number buttons), but now you made favorite channels and all the channels a continuous list which is 10x harder than having a channel list at the side where you could switch between favorite and all channels. Plus, I cannot add any channels to my favorites anymore. How do I get rid of this nasty update??? Maybe I need to switch back to a normal TV...
Would be nice if it would rotate to landscape view. Update: audio with earbuds doesn't work on YouTube channel with this app (however earbuds on the original Roku remote does work!) Audio runs for 5sec then cuts out. Audio without earbuds works fine. Motorola Droid Turbo
Although parts of the app are ok, the 'private listening' listening feature had some serious connectivity issues. When I originally installed this app 6 months ago, it worked pretty well...with the occasional hiccup. However, since the last update on Jan 23, 2018 it is unusable! The sound cuts in and out every 5 seconds, and completely dips out and sits down the app within 5 minutes. Such a shame. I'll be moving to a different streaming device if this isn't remedied within the next week or two.
Great app to have when you can't find the remote. Only issue I have is changing the volume up and down, if i do it a few notches up it goes as loud as my tv will possibly go and i have to get up and manually turn off the tv because it won't stop otherwise. Which is an issue if you are watching tv at night and want it to stay low because people are sleeping. So, yeah.
This app sucks! Every time I open it, I get the the 'No WiFi' pop up that states 'A WiFi connection is not available. Please connect to a wifi network'. Well if there is no WiFi connection, how am I typing this? How did I even download the app? What a ridiculous bug that should have been fixed immediately. Complete trash of an app.
I really like it because I comes in handy when I lose the remote. But the problem is that most of the time when I try putting up or down the volume it's just stays stuck on up or down. So I have to fight with the tv to either bring the volume back up or down.
I have a blue heeler/jack russell terrier puppy that pee'd on my Roku TCL remote causing perminant damage. My fiance told me about this lovely lil app and our Roku experience has been forever changed for the best! Love this app and it's functionality is great! Only flaw is that sometimes the volume buttons stick and raise the volume all the way up & vice-versa which can be terrifying at times but otherwise I highly recommend this app! Oh and while I'm here, please feel free to pass the time watching some of my content on YouTube! Look up Cylewac08 and let me know what you think!
Has a glitch in app that when you try to use it on Wi-Fi it doesn't stay connected. Its not my Wi-Fi or phone its the app. Have tested and re tested. Worked when it damn well feels like it. Also when I have set the phone down and my screen goes black and I'm watching a movie my kids shouldn't be watching it they walk in and I open my phone again. It has to "reload and find my device" all while I'm having to get my kid back outthe room lol not cool ruku.
The private listening function is full of bugs and it's a common problem on the Roku devices. I tried all the trouble shooting tips nothing worked first and last time I buy a Roku product
This app and the device would be great if you didn't have to spend every day re-signing into channels with your service provider info. It really does get old!!
I hate the "What's on" page. The app now takes an additional 5-6 seconds to open because of it. They've also added advertisements to my Roku TV's home page. I loved the TV when I got it. I'd never consider getting a Roku product again.
The private listening mode is absolutely horrible as it disconnects constantly in the middle of use. Private listening mode on this app being the ONLY way to use headphones on the Roku Streaming Stick Plus sense there's no built-in Bluetooth and not even a headphone jack on the new voice remote that comes with the device such as there is on the cheaper older models. For this reason I would expect that this feature on the app should work properly since Roku has decided to make it the only way to use headphones and it doesn't even work. I am extremely dissatisfied as when I buy and pay a higher price to get a more premium model of a device like the Roku Streaming Stick Plus, I would expect for basic features such as the use of headphones to not even be considered as a possible issue. So when I find out that this app is the only way to do so I would expect it to actually work properly sense Roku has chosen to put such extreme importance on the functionality of this feature on the app. And sense this is an issue of such importance I would expect the company to put more effort into actually making it work. Especially since there is no headphone jack on the new remote or built-in Bluetooth on the device which is absolutely Ridiculous for a device of this price. This feature needs to be fixed immediately. I cannot believe that it is 2018 and basic features like the functionality of headphones on a device like this doesn't even work.
This app has been great. Just one thing, my phone has updated the latest version, but for some reason it does not have the private listening feature. I have had the app since last October and the private listening was on the app at one point, but very shortly after it was gone. I just recently just did a system update on my phone as well. So just curious. Thanks.
I'm glad I lost my Roku remote (which led me to find this app)!! The voice search and keyboard are very welcome improvements and I don't need to be in direct line of sight to control the Roku! Excellent app!!
Not terrible, but not as user friendly as I would have thought. The widget requires you to open the app and have it running in the background to use. Not a huge issue, but slightly annoying none the less. Otherwise it's good.
Every time I try to adjust the volume it gets stuck. It will shoot to 100 and when I attempt to turn it town it will completely turn off. Please fix this bug!
Very convenient, especially for entering email and password on keyboard rather than navigating with actual remote, which is super annoying. I dropped my remote under the bed and have been using this instead until I can work out a way to retrieve it without destroying my back!
I just use it as a remote, but it has other functions. Some people complain about sound & Wi-Fi. I don't use volume on this app or headphones, and I have not experienced any Wi-Fi disconnection. I use it in the bedroom when it is dark because I can see it. All the back, forward, play, home etc buttons work great. I didn't even know there was a TV power button that some folks complained about. I'll have to look for that. Thanks! Very helpful app.

I've been waiting a long time for the headphone functionality, and was happy to see Roku finally offer it on this app. Unfortunately, the audio drops out almost constantly. Headphone function works great on my phone with all of my other streaming apps, but on this Roku app, it works inconsistently if at all.
