About Devon Air Ambulance

Every year Devon’s two Air Ambulances fly more than 1,000 missions. The county has many remote or inaccessible areas where the helicopters come into their own because they can fly straight to the patient, over difficult terrain and bypassing traffic.

Our aircraft can reach 50% of Devon within 5 minutes with the remainder of the county within 20 minutes – reassuring should you need essential medical help quickly.

Our specialist HEMS desk (helicopter emergency medical services), working with South West Ambulance Service Foundation Trust at the local 999 control room, is responsible for deploying the aircraft to those patients who need an Air Ambulance. The service is funded totally by the Devon community.

The Devon Air Ambulance app aims to help anyone who needs to know their current location by way of a grid reference. For example, if you need help fast, you can use the app's map which shows your location and provides an OSGB (Ordnance Survey Grid Reference) which is more accurate than a standard longitude and latitude reading. What’s more, this location finder still works even if you don’t have a mobile phone signal.

Other features include:

- Fast Access to emergency services
- Built in torch that flashes SOS in morse code
- Latest weather update including colour coded warnings
- Helicopter advice
- Devon Air Ambulance Trust news
- Detailed information relating to Devon Air Ambulance Trust
- Handy advice for donating to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust including via SMS
- Link to download St John Ambulance app

We would like to thank St John Ambulance for allowing us to put details and a link to their fantastic first aid advice app within our app.

It's a good idea, however it seems not to work well with huawei p9 as the SOS flash doesn't activate the torch and the location is incorrect to where I actually am. I think if these where somehow rectified it would be brilliant

Great idea, but the 999 people don't seem to be able to use the OS coords. Could location be changed to GPS coords instead/as well please?

Does what it says in the description! :) Smooth, news and info is good, and the mapping is excellent!!

A great idea but to be a lifesaver surely it needs to accurately say where you are. I downloaded this app onto both mine & my wife's phones. We're sat next to each other but my phone says I'm about 1.5 miles away & my wife is about half a mile further than that. This was a problem for people in 2013 so it really should be sorted now. BTW, both wifi & location are switched on & I've refreshed the phones several times.

SOS light not working and giving wrong location. I'm in East Prawle, this shows me in Salcombe.

Brilliant app but the only thing that worries me is that my location is way out even after refreshing it three times. I still find myself 12 miles away from where I really am. Or is it just me not refreshing it properly

When you first ask it to get your location it uses the mobile network information. This can be a few hundred metres out. It also will use the GPS ,if turned on, but the GPS location does not update the on screen location unless you hit refresh. How are you supposed to know to do this. It should do it automatically. Its not clear if when you make the call to the emergency services that the OSGB details will remain visible. Do you need to remember them/write them down?? The SOS function does not appear on my phone. So if it's dark I might not be found. Edit. Have found out that to get the grid ref back on the screen during a call you tap back twice.
