Roger - Group Voice Messenger for Android
Roger makes it fun to talk in groups, and for free. With TalkHeads, you can continue your conversations over any app you're using. This means you no longer have to switch between apps if you want to talk while browsing through photos, shopping online and more.
TALKHEADS
Unlike other conversation shortcuts, you can talk to your friends without leaving the app you're using. All you have to do is tap twice to record and tap once to listen even when you are outside of Roger.
PRIVACY
All rogers expire permanently after 48 hours and will not be retrievable. Before they expire, you can replay your rogers as many times as you want.
DATA & OFFLINE USAGE
Listen to your rogers even when you do not have a connection. When you reply, we will save and stream your rogers out when you regain data connection. Running out of data? Each roger consumes less data than it takes to view a photo online.
PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS
Recreate the feeling of being beside the person you miss. When you talk to someone on Roger, you will be able to see their current weather locations, local time and the city they're in with our beautifully animated backgrounds unique to each user.
REAL-TIME CONVERSATIONS
Be notified whenever your friends are talking or listening to your rogers with our real-time feedback.
THIRD-PARTY INTEGRATIONS
Talk to Amazon's smart assistant Alexa or share Rogers to Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox and even SoundCloud all within Roger itself.
Ever since I did the update, it won't play any messages, all that does is make beeping sounds and ringing sounds, and won't play anything. I have lost over 20 minutes of messages because it is malfunctioning.
very annoying. Roger was a useful app but it doesn't work at all now. Don't know what's up. Will try uninstalling..That works. Back running again. Still confusing as to how to make it reliably work with Alexa but hopefully it will stay working this time
1. What is Live Playback option? 2. Can I talk live when the other person is online? I.e. a call? 3. Notifications not coming when I get/someone hears my rogers Suggestions: 4. Save conversations to phone option
I am using this app for Alexa integration. It works well. Initially, I was confused about how to connect the service and there was little instructions on how to do it. So it took a good bit of trial and error.
5* for potential. Developers are sitting on a gold mine, but they need to step up. Clean up Alexa integration--make Alexa setup a skill. Give the people what they want: an alexa remote. The UI is ridiculously non-intuitive. Fire the moron who changed the talk icon from a microphone to a crescent -- unbelievably freaking stupid. Label the damn buttons and use standard icons! Add some sound/visual status cues so the user knows what is happening and when its busy. Write some decent instructions. Get it right and I'd pay $5-10.
One minute it will work fine but then no matter what I do she doesn't hear me and repeats the same thing over and over
Garbage app. Freezes....just sucks a big one
Nothing about this app shines
Wanted to use this app solely for Alexa integration, but the incomprehensible interface was impossible to navigate. I couldn't see any instructions for connecting to Alexa, nor could I do anything except join some spammy group chat. Also, denying it ANY of the permissions it asks for causes the app to lock itself into a loop asking repeatedly for permissions I don't intend to give it (and permissions it doesn't need to connect with Alexa). Zero help is provided on the website, so you have no guide to use any of its alleged features.
App has no set up instructions! I finally connected to Alexa and it worked perfectly twice. Now I can't get the mic to come on to allow me to talk. I long press the button and a pop up comes up. If I short press it nothing happens. Get some freaking instructions! Great idea and the two times it worked was awesome. But not being able to actually talk or use it at all is f' ING annoying!
This app has no instructions to setup with alexa. Once I figured it out, and tied it to my amazon account, I tried it. I thought this was going to let me control my actual echo device, but it doesn't do that. The software only replies back on your phone. Lame.
I really want this to work with Alexa but it isn't. Set up instructions would be nice too. Please fix it.
initiallt screen loaded, then i get unfortunately app has stopped
It's OK
None of my friends have heard of it so I've nobody to talk to yet (but I invited them). I can already tell though that widgets to get to it quickly would be an improvement though.
Hopefully they'll be a bug fix soon. I've sent several reports. I really want this app to work well.
Trying to use the Alexa integration and the audio output for Alexa isn't working
Add Android wear support and you will have the first app that has Alexa on their wrist
This app would be perfect for android wear - I'm it doesn't have support for wear already
So had a problems with sms and calls not working but last and this update fixed it thank you
connected to service just fine and communicated once but then any further attempts nothing happened and no error messages or anything
This app, like many others, can use Amazon's Alexa voice service to provide a simulated 'Echo' experience but cannot connect to your Echo. It does this by first asking you to sign into your Amazon account- this is so that the app can authenticate to use the voice service, not to link the app to your specific Echo. This means that though Alexa can answer your questions and provide you basic information, it cannot control your smart home devices or linked services, like Spotify, Phillips Hue, Bluetooth, etc.
So it uses the American alexa, regardless of your country. It doesn't do timers, or alarms. As it's using Amazon. Com instead of co.uk it didn't see my smart home devices, so couldn't control home automation stuff. So it's really only good to go spoken word Google searches, which Google now does anyway. Fun to test alexa for a few minutes but not much after that
Installed Roger after reading rave reviews about being able to control your Echo home automation devices remotely. Unfortunately it seems that this doesn't work in the UK at all. EDIT: Amazon really should make it clearer that the Alexa Voice Service won't allow 3rd party apps to communicate with your uk echo yet! This isn't Roger's fault... so making this review 5 stars for now, will revisit one AVS works for me. Thanks for the prompt responses from the Roger devs :)
Connects to random alexa not my home echo. Tried 2 times signing roger in with phone number and connecting to my Amazon account. Would leave 5 stars if it connected to my home echo. No good for echo might be useful for people that haven't herd of whatsapp or cisco spark.
We have a group of blind individuals that are using this app. There are several issues with it making ringing noises and laughing sounds. It doesn't always turn off and we find ourselves with an open mic. I had to do a second installation and when I did that, more features became available to me but there are still some that are not available. I love the concept, we love the app but there are so many bugs in it it's discouraging. None of us are using it with Alexa at this time.
No information no videos on how to use it is trial and error. It is sad if it's a great app but you can't get past the no information
Worked good for two days then stopped suddenly. Uninstalked, reinstalled, logged in again, same issues. Please fix in a hurry.
Linked it to my UK echo but did not work... Used email address to register.. Tried registering with my mobile number and now it works..
To delete your account, the FAQ says to "Go to Settings inside the app, and change your display name (not handle) to DELETED". The problem is that there is no way to change the display name. There's no setting for that.
I installed to take advantage of a deal on Amazon that had to be ordered via Alexa. No reply. Uninstalling
I am using roger with my real echo to control my smart home just log in to your amazon account and select your device. Thats it
could not get it to work as an alexa remote. sent email asking for help but never recieved a response
Doesnt seem to work for the echo in the UK.
convenient, simple, effective
Awesome
Worked great at first then Alexa just stopped responding to Roger. Don't think it's Alexa as she works just fine doing all of her automations.
Unfortunately since the last update, or since Sunday, I've been having trouble with Roger interfering with my ability to use other apps. For example, when I was trying to access the menu in my Bible app, or changing my default SMS app from Messaging to Facebook Messenger, the Roger chime would sound and it would play the last Roger message, and so I wouldn't get to perform the task I try to perform in the app I'm in at the time. Also, TalkBack doesn't work with the emoticons until I stop recording.
I am having trouble exiting Anymote skill I opened in echo. Any conversion I start is being confined to that particular skill. I am unable to exit the skill

It keeps freezing towards the end of listening to a message and is slow to open the app(if it does at all) but it's still a great app and I highly recommend it! Also, can anyone tell me how long it takes to send a roger? From the second you stop talking to the second they start listening?
