About Korean (North) Basic Phrases
Military-related phrases for foreign language learners of Korean (한국어/조선말) in the North Korean dialect. With phrases and audio.
Use this app to select an English phrase and view its translation and how to pronounce it in Korean. Texts are given in Korean script with Hanja (漢字) in parentheses for reference. Note that in everyday North Korean life, Hanja are rarely used. This app uses a revised McCune-Reischauer Romanization system; though it is highly advised for learners to take time to master the Korean script.
This app was originally developed as an entry to the 2010 CIO/G6 "Apps for the Army" competition, and it is based on the modules publicly available online from the U.S. Defense Language Institute. Content edited and arranged by Percy Wong; app development by Robert Theis.

Wanna get shot or imprisoned into one of the gulags in North Korea for rest of your life? Well here is a wonderful map for you that uses south Korean phrases, ignores honorific and omits communists lexicons. South Korean and North Korean pronunciation is different, yet this app fails to show the difference. For example, South Korean last name 이(pronounced as yee) would be changed to 리 (pronounced lee) thanks to ridiculous language rules in North Korea which you can read at Wikipedia.
