Michael Learns To Rock Hits

Michael Learns to Rock, sering disingkat MLTR, adalah grup musik sweet pop / soft rock Denmark. Grup musik ini didirikan pada 21 Maret 1988 oleh penyanyi dan pemain kibor Jascha Richter (24 Juni 1963), drummer Kåre Wanscher (14 Juni 1969), gitaris Mikkel Lentz (20 Desember 1968) serta pemain bas dan gitar Søren Madsen (23 April 1967). Pada 2000 Madsen meninggalkan grup musik ini untuk mengembangkan karier solo, sehingga grup musik ini berubah menjadi tiga personelnya.

Michael Learns to Rock terkenal di Eropa dan juga terkenal di Asia karena banyak albumnya yang memperoleh emas atau platina.

Michael Learns to Rock atau yang biasa disingkat MLTR ini adalah grup band beraliran pop atau pop-soft rock yang berasal dari Denmark. MLTR dibentuk pada tahun 1988 saat pemain keyboard, Jascha Richter ingin membentuk sebuah band untuk menyanyikan lagu-lagu ciptaannya. Ia bersama teman sekolah menengahnya, Kåre Wanscher, akhirnya sepakat untuk membentuk sebuah band. Namun karena dirasa janggal bermain hanya dengan dua orang, mereka mengajak Mikkel Lentz dan Søren Madsen untuk bergabung. Tanggal 15 Maret 1988, adalah kali pertama mereka bermain bersama. Mereka merekam lagu demo dan mengirimkannya di kompetisi Rock Grand Prix di Aarhus. Nama Michael Learns to Rock diambil dari nama Michael Jackson. Tanggal 22 Mei 1988, merupakan penampilan mereka yang pertama pada kompetisi tersebut dan mereka mendapatkan juara kedua. MLTR melanjutkan dengan bermain secara live dan pada akhirnya mereka mendapat kesempatan untuk merekam album pertama mereka yang diberi judul Michael Learns To Rock pada tahun 1991. Album tersebut tidak terlalu sukses di Amerika, namun sangat mendapatkan antusiasme pendengar di Denmark dan beberapa negara di Asia termasuk Indonesia.

Album kedua MLTR dirilis pada Oktober 1993, Colours yang terjual lebih dari satu juta kopi. Ini juga menjadi kesempatan pertama MLTR untuk tampil di Asia. Album ke tiga, Played on Pepper dirilis pada Agustus 1995 yang terjual lebih dari satu juta kopi. Album ini adalah album pertama mereka yang direkam dan diproduksi oleh mereka sendiri.

Dalam rangka untuk menyempurnakan kesuksesan mereka, MLTR merilis album The Greatest Hits dengan judul Paint My Love pada Mei 1996. Album ini terjual tiga juta kopi terutama di Asia. Album ke empat MLTR, Nothing to Lose dirilis September 1997 yang juga terjual satu juta kopi. Setelah tur mereka ke Afrika, MLTR memilih untuk beristirahat sejenak utuk menghabiskan waktu bersama dengan keluarga dan juga untuk mengembangkan ide baru mereka.

Tahun 2000, Søren Madsen memutuskan untuk hengkang dari band untuk bersolo karier. Dengan tiga anggota yang tersisa, mereka mengasilkan album Blue Night yang terjual dengan baik di Asia. Tahun berikutnya MLTR meluncurkan biografi mereka Something You Should Know yang ditulis oleh Poul Martin-Bonde. Biografi tersebut juga diterjemahkan dalam bahasa Inggris dengan judul It Never Rains on Bali.

Setelah meluncurkan Blue Night, band memilih untuk vakum sejenak, Jascha Richter mengembangkan proyek album solonya Planet Blue. Tahun 2004, MLTR kembali bergabung dan merilis album Michael Learns To Rock dan dirilis di Asia dengan nama Take Me To Your Heart. November 2008, MLTR merilis album ke tujuh mereka dengan judul Eternity di bawah label mereka sendiri MLTR.
