Used the app for a few months now. Overall it's a nice lightweight map app, with features like route recording and is simple to use, for the most part, and doesn't hammer the battery badly. My only criticism is that the route editor needs some revision. One of my devices clearly has GPS issues and occasionally blips way off position, removing these markers should be simple but you have to drag it about and it clearly has more markers that are manipulating the route but are not visible. A simple tap on edit system with a toolbox (delete/move) interface would be easier perhaps, and painting more markers around a selected marker to make it clearer what's plotted.

Not impressed with the customer service. I downloaded the app and then went to register for the "Unlimited use" at £4.95 per annum as advertised in the write up, guess what? It is not £4.95 it is alot more than that. I emailed them and asked for an explanation. I am still waiting for a reply!

Fantastic app which uses all OS UK maps so ideal for walking trips. I've used regularly for a couple of years as a backup to my paper maps. All features work well, however I encountered a problem this weekend. I have a high end Sony xz mobile which is waterproof, but was unable to use the app properly because of wet weather. This is a phone problem, and not the apps fault, as the screen is sensitive to wet and won't behave normally. Not sure if there is anything that can be done? Maybe allow dedicated buttons for zooming in and out in wet weather. Other wise a Z great app for dry weather.

Z70%
by Z####:

Generally good. Certainly on a couple of walks in Shropshire it stopped us getting lost. I rented the OS Online map for a year because that seemed the best value, as it covers the whole of the Uk. It works ok but what isn't clear is that if you take the OS Online option (rather than buying a specific OS Map) as you zoom in the OS Map disappears and is replaced by a streetview map, which has less detail and doesn't show public footpaths. It doesn't ruin the App and for those with excellent eyesight it shouldn't be a major problem, but if you are a bit older you will find this annoying. As far as I can tell this doesn't happen if you buy individual maps - you can zoom in as much as you like without loosing the details. Would get 5 stars but for this glitch.

X70%
by X####:

The Google version does not allow the download of European and World wide maps from the map store. Otherwise I would have given it a 5 star rating.

X70%
by X####:

Yet again more problems now the online maps are not working so you can't see footpaths

Great app used it since 2011 on ios and andriod. Customer service top notch. Questions answered within minutes even on a Sunday evening! Def recommend for hiking and cycling.

Tried to rent an OS explorer map for a weekend trip. Spent £2.49 on it but couldn't download the map. The app is very buggy and I guess I have just wasted over £2 for nothing.

X70%
by X####:

Used this app for years and it's great just to have on your phone for walking & the support team are very helpful with my issus about transferring maps from IOS to android

Having lived with this on Android for a couple of years now and and with the more recent update, I have to say this is very poor app and very buggy. It doesn't appear to have been user tested properly. The rendering of the offline maps is sometimes so slow it's useless. The download server is very slow and often unavailable. Refresh of purchased store items always says failed. Multiple display of the same maps in the installed maps list. Display of speed very erratic despite good GPS connection. Saving of new routes - the route names seem to get mixed up with the route details with more than 20 routes. Paid for OS on-line subscription but so far have not seen it work. Taking a photo while app is running stops recording with no warning. Do you really want your users to be the first to find these bugs after paying hundereds of pounds for the maps? Also very annoyed I had to pay for maps again when I switched from ios to Android. It's a pity really as this could be such a great tool. If you would like me to test any updates let me know. I'll do it for free!

X70%
by X####:

Not happy with the zooming in even with my glasses on it's hard to follow Footpaths

X70%
by X####:

Does not allow me to use the following maps. Routes etc only allows you to purchase maps that you can't open

X70%
by X####:

Best on the market by far

B70%

Used this for the first time round the Elan Valley Was very impressed with the live map tracking, showing my position. However, the recording part leaves a lot to be desired, kept turning off if you stopped for more than a minute, is not comparable to Map my walk. Hence the 4stars

X70%
by X####:

Could be a 5 star app. But the support is non existant. It is impossible to get a reply from outdoors gb. Maps that you buy DO NOT sinc seemlessly across your devices. I have a smartphone and a pad and a Google account in the app but all my purchased maps on my phone do not appear on my pad. Very annoying. And NO response from outdoors gb!! Poor service for the money

Presently, the OutDoors GB write up on Google Play says: "Huge, easy-to-manage OS map areas for just £2.99 per region/county/National Park." "Lifetime OS maps are sold as Regions (1:50k), Counties (1:25k) or National Parks (1:25k)- just £2.95" Not true!! Maps are up to £30 each.

Now I have never been confident in walking or running with areas or routes I have not been shown. Now I tested this app on the local dog walk and yes it worked. So went up on the local hills and managed an 8.2mile route not getting lost ok I had a few hessitant moments hats just me i think but I felt safe great app take spare battery's tho no phone no map unless you have a paper one,

J70%
by J####:

I had this app on my old phone and bought 'lifetime' access to two maps. Phone broke so downloaded app onto my new phone, but my maps are not there. At £10 each, not willing to buy maps again each time I change my phone. The app itself is good and easy to use (would be nice if it changed from portrait to landscape format when phone is turned).

X70%
by X####:

After installing on the iPad I was really impressed the ability to rent os maps was the attraction however after installing the app on my Garmin Montana an Android device i found I couldn't sync the maps even after paying for another rental year. I'm dumping the app and the Garmin im going back to paper maps .

X70%
by X####:

Don't be fooled in thinking National Parks maps are free. They are when you register but will expire after 12 months. But they can be purchased for £7.99 for lifetime use on multiple devices which isn't too bad. Problem downloading maps to new phone sorted by Saskia at Outdoors support. Installed app without SD card, inserted card & successfully downloaded maps.

X70%
by X####:

Works really well and OS maps appear a bit cheaper from OutDoors compared with other apps I've looked at. The one niggle I had with my account was answered and remedied in an hour or two by the app Support.

X70%
by X####:

The app it's self is great works brilliantly. Only problem is no longer able to view full OS maps "Online" in 1:25000 thus rendering it useless for walking. I will be looking for a refund on subscription. Will not renew.

I70%
by I####:

I buy maps, but if not used every day I cannot connect. I have a message saying expired. This is not what I need when untrue. Try to update but no good. Save your money, this app is useless.

X70%
by X####:

I want to be able to use the full maps but can't see how to pay for it. GB maps haven't bothered to respond to enquiry! Obviously they Don't care!

X70%
by X####:

This works really well - I love it. I had an existing iOS version of this app and a number of maps that I'd paid for. I'd assumed I'd have to buy maps again from the Google store but Saskia in customer services sorted me out quickly and everything is now working well on both iOS and android. Can't thank Saskia enough - so refreshing to deal with an efficient customer services department.

Back in UK. Loading is better and app more responsive. Previous frustration was when planning a trip to UK from Vietnam when I found this app to be incredibly slow to load anything. After days of trying, I got nothing. Works in UK.

"Routes on website" feature doesn't work and thus app is useless to me. Also slow and unhelpful though maps are good quality.

Mapping really good. I like the route creator. Would have given 5 but occasionally seems to crash and recording your route stops if I use the camera

I find this app to be incredibly slow to load anything. If seems to give up or go slow for the least excuse. After days of trying, I have not yet succeeded. As a vote of faith, I have subscribed for a year because it should be great, if they get it to work !!

The app it's self is great works brilliantly. I accidentally bought the wrong map tried to contact them via there customer support page on both my ipad and laptop but the page just doesn't work there is no way to contact them. Very poor.

Should be a great app. The OS maps are great quality and load quickly as you scan across. However the app constantly stops recording when part way through recording a route

U70%

I use this app all the time. I have a lot of the offline OS maps and can zoom around the country and in to 1:50k and 1:25k quickly and smoothly. Occasionally it crashes or has some other bugs but I'd be literally lost without it.

I like this app and think that it is a great idea, having downloadable Ordnance Survey maps on my phone or tablet that I can use offline when out walking. Unfortunately, the app is let down by a very poor download process that is slow or freezes repeatedly, making installation (or re-installation) of paid for ordnance survey maps a real problem. The developers of this app urgently need to re-program it to solve these download issues and to compete in future with a recent app launched by Ordnance Survey themselves. The Support Team for this Outdoors GB - GPS app could be criticised for not being proactive to report these download issues to the developers and chase up the necessary reprogramming. I have now tried this Outdoors GB - GPS app on two Android devices (a Tesco HUDL2 tablet with a 64GB Micro SD card installed and a Sony Xperia Z5 top of the range smartphone with a 200GB Micro SD card installed), both with plenty of available storage space and both being used over fast Wi-Fi and fibre broadband links. There is no excuse for the developers not taking on board customer complaints or solving the problem. If you are about to buy this Outdoors GB - GPS app you should reconsider.

This app works but is very clunky when rendering the screen. Also download is buggy, sometimes maps ger stuck half loaded and have to be deleted and re-loaded again. I have maps which are loaded but list also says they aren't. Very annoyed I had to pay for maps again when I switched from ios to Android. For the money we invest in the maps the app should be better tested. Also worried about lack of support I read here. Makes you wonder how future proof it is.

I loaded this app on my Galaxy S5 and it worked perfectly. However, I recently tried to load it on my Lenovo tablet and have had nothing but trouble. It hangs up when I try to download maps I have purchased so the maps never finish downloading. It frequently crashes even when I'm not trying to download maps. And when the screen falls asleep with the app open it appears to open another of my apps which I find live when I turn the device on again! Note: the Lenovo gives me no problems with other apps and uses the same operating system as the Galaxy.

J70%
by J####:

Worked for a couple of weeks and was very good. Then kept crashing. Very poor. They sent me a link telling me to reinstall the app, the link was to iTunes! I have of course re-installed and repeating a week later all seems well. If it wasn't for the glitches I would give a higher rating.

U70%
by U####:

This app is simply spot on. Having the ability to subscribe as well as download maps to the device make it very worth the money. Mobile coverage can be an issue in remote places, but this app means you don't need to worry if you have no signal. Integration with the website makes route planning and sharing very easy. Some have said that the maps are expensive, but I think they are what you would expect to pay and are much less hassle than carrying full size paper maps. Support is also excellent.
