RiffTrax - Movies Made Funny! for Android
Best solution so far, but I wish it synced faster, and let you hear the intro.
Garbage app wouldn't sync to a movie
The app has a nice autosync where it listens for dialogue then loads the riff perfectly. But not all riffs start after dialogue, if any. For instance, the Star Wars riffs will not have commentary during the scroll or several minutes into the action. The app works but you will miss some jokes
Thank you guys for making all my dreams come true! Now with the touch of a button I can watch all my terrible terrible prequel type movies and all the teenage vampire ones! It used to take a half hour to rig up the wires to my automated Tom Servo. Now with the convenience of the app, he does it himself. Thanks Rifftrax.
V1.5 fixed the prior "network error" when attempting to download anything on Pixel / 7.1. On Nexus 7 2013 / 6.0.1: downloading/sync/playback works, but switching applications or to the home screen causes severe audio stuttering and playback slowdown/desync. The UI is a bit clunky on a larger screen. The concept and RiffTrax are great, there may be some bugs and lingering device compatibility issues to work on.
The app is obviously designed for a phone. Everything is weirdly proportioned on my tablet. Also, I was hoping to be able to stream RiffTrax shorts and movies from my library, but this is just for syncing audio-only riffs. Seems good at that though.
I've let it sit for minutes and minutes on end.. I did get it to work two times out of maybe 50 tries. Tried different speakers/angles combos. different volumes/distances combos. it may start working in middle of novie. Not useful unless it starts at the beginning and works every time. I will change this review if the devs get this working. I have faith though.. I love Rifftrax!! PLEASE PLEASE FIX! I WILL BUY MORE "JUST THE JOKES" GUARANTEED!
I can't get any commentaries to play. I've turned the sound on my television to absurd levels but the app just keeps "listening". Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong? I've got the microphone on my phone turned towards the speakers but it just will not work. Bummer.
I wish it took less time to sync, but I think it works very well overall. Much better then trying to play a straight audio and getting it started at the right time.
I'm a huge fan of RiffTrax, but the app... It isn't working for me. The audio is... broken... or stuttery. As if it's perhaps constantly adjusting to stay in sync. GREAT idea, for GREAT entertainment, but on my phone, it just isn't working right yet. No way I'm giving up on it, though. And while I'm here, I have a suggestion to avoid the problem of the initial delay while the app listens for dialogue: why not have a button to start it manually, and then let the auto-sync begin whenever it's able. It may not be in perfect sync for the first 30 seconds but that would be better than missing the opening riffs. Just a thought.
Doesn't work on Android N yet. I'll update this review once it starts working. Thanks! *Edit 11/2/2016* Works great now Thank you! As promised I've updated my review :)
Always loved Rifftrax commentaries ... I own nearly all of them! but the difficulty of syncing the riff track to the movie meant it was sometimes more frustrating than entertaining. This app makes it all automatic and so far works like a charm
Updated January 2017. Initially had no luck with the app, but now with the nouget fix it works really well. Only watched one trax so far (Jurassic world) from Google play and the sync seemed dead on. The app isn't the prettiest but that's a small price to pay for the really clever tech that listens to the playing movie and syncs the rifftrax with it. I've tended to avoid buying 'just the jokes' rifftrax due to the difficulty in syncing but that issue seems to be hugely reduced by this app. Very pleased.
I am quite disappointed that i can't synch to a movie I'm watching on my phone. This is what i wanted the app for.
Not perfect, but still really friggin cool. My only issue is that it can't sync with music (and apparently A LOT of movies begin with A LOT of music). But, it'll happen one day.
Rifftrax is amazing, but I have not gotten this app to work once, and just rely on manual sync. Too bad, because if it did work, I'd purchase more riffs.
My favorite part is where it says I don't have any purchases in my library and none of my purchases show up in the catelogue. EDIT: Turns out that I seem to only own riffs that are not on the compatibility list. Will update my review once I have a chance to use it.
Works as well as your phone or environments accoustics allow. Impressive little product. Found myself getting my fellow nerd and geek fans together and wind up testing the apps capability more than the riffing itself. Cleverly done.
Worked like a charm. I've had trouble syncing movie riffs before and this solved all my issues. I was even able to search and purchase with ease.
Best just to download the mp3 rifftrax file off the website at this point.....Good concept. Good layout. Stuttering audio is terrible!!
$4 per commentary track?! That's insane! $1 with ad support would be more than reasonable, as well as lucrative.
It works pretty OK. Better than the Windows application. It would be great if it would sync faster, and automatically re-sync itself while playing the riff. It would also be nice if you could start playing the riff audio at the beginning of the movie while it syncs. As it is, you can miss the first minute or two of jokes while waiting for dialogue to start. Hmm... what if it could use your phone's camera and sync to the picture instead of the audio?
Great app and it now works with my Nexus 6p running nougat. Thanks for the update. The only suggestion I can think of now is Chromecast's support for the ability tostream to my Chromecast's connected speakers.
App now works like a charm - listening to the Twilight riff and it's like MST3K never finished. The best.
Must have app for Rifftrax
This app makes syncing with dvds effortless compared to before. Works perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using the Sprint network or wifi.
Purchased Halloween and it didn't work. Just updated the app for the 3rd time since I had it. Uninstalled the track, re-downloaded it, still doesn't work. Sucks cuz I really want to get "The Room", but won't until this is fixed.
Great idea! And it works on Android 7.0 now, they fixed it! I'd give it five stars but I haven't had a chance to use it yet.
The app is a solid concept but does not appear to work on my Galaxy Tab S2. Tracks download but won't sync. EDITED: Correction. Works with movies played from my laptop, but not with TV, making app very limited. Neither proximity to tv nor volume seems to help.
I love the riffs, so far all play on my phone fine except for The Dark Knight. It just keeps listening. How can I get it to work, or can I just get another one, or even the same one, maby if I downloaded it again it would work? Please help me out here. Thanks.
I like the autosync feature but because it only kicks in after some dialogue you will miss the funny intros they do as well as aometimes minutes of jokes while you wait for the movie to start talking. A manual play option needs to be added.
It works great once it starts and after listening to voices, but it would be better if it had an option to start at the beginning of the movie, and then fixed it synching.
Working on my nexus 5x now! Wish the app could start playing at the beginning then stay synced with dialogue. As it is I feel that I'm missing out on some of the beginning jokes.
Please fix the bluetooth speaker issue - this is the only way we can watch at home! :(
Doesn't find anything in my library, tried relogging and reinstalled. Neither works, please contact me if there is a fix.
I love it, a huge thanks to the crew from Rifftrax but could you please make it so I could access my entire Rifftrax library?!?! Thanks in advance!
love the concept, and works well. .just wish it didn't take like 3 min to sync. ..30 sec my a**
It listens forever, but I've never once had it sync and start.
No trial or tests to download for free. Everything costs.

Doesn't work. Crashes every time I try to open it.
