Designed for both genealogists and history enthusiasts, OldNews USA makes getting started with historical newspaper research easier than ever. With OldNews USA, you can quickly discover interesting stories and articles in historical US newspapers, using the Library of Congress Chronicling America collection of over 11 million newspaper pages from 1789 to 1922.
With OldNews USA, you begin by entering who or what you are looking for. If you want to find articles about a person, all you need to enter is a name, a date range, and a location.
OldNews USA uses this information to automatically suggest the newspapers that are most likely to contain articles about your person. Furthermore, it automatically creates search suggestions that you can use to populate the advanced search screens, without any additional data entry. The list of search suggestions contains variations of the person's name, since you never know how the name may appear in the newspaper. All you need to do is select a search suggestion and go!
When you view a newspaper page, you can view each highlighted search term by tapping the screen. The app will automatically zoom in to the next matching term each time you tap the screen. When you review the last search term, the app tells you that you reviewed all matches. When you compare this experience to using a web browser, you will never want to use a web browser for newspaper research again!

Don't waste your time on this junk app. This app tries to get money for nothing. I searched a known event the 1st search and it says nothing found. I'm sure it won't until I exhaust my free trial searches. I'm done! Uninstall..

I have used Chronicling America before, this makes it so much easier! Multiple ways to search, you can have searched saved, saved your last searches.* Only 1 bad thing. The dates numbers are so small I can't read them without magnifying glass. *

I didn't realize until after I purchased that it only searches Chronicling America which I have already searched extensively. Did not let me request refund within 2 hours. Added: The developer offered a prompt, courteous refund. The refund issue was a misrepresentation on Google's part, not the developer. If I knew that additional Newspaper websites could be accessed in the future, I would continue to use. Perhaps a snippet could be offered and then a link to any other subscription site would help make this app more versatile. If there is any hope of this in the future, I would withdraw request for a refund.

I can't understand why this app won at rootstech. There's no improvement over the searches at Chronicling - it's just putting more emphasis on first names in your search.

It's okay but for premium you are simply paying for a convenience. It lets you clip article sections and share. That's nice. It uses the Chronicling America site and only goes through 1924. Wish it went further out. Google News archives is better for lengthier searches.
