About Garage Floor Ideas
So you've figured out what garage flooring you plan to buy, and it's now time to choose the specific tiles. Garage floor tiles are capable of doing just about anything as well, if not better than, every other type of flooring, which means that you should decide which qualities are the most important for your situation before beginning to choose the tiles for your garage. Is money the biggest concern? Are you installing the flooring yourself? Are tools and parts likely to impact the garage floor covering? Do you plan to show off your garage? These are all things to consider while deciding which particular tile to choose.
Price
Many times, the fact that garage floor tile can be purchased in only the quantity needed is one of its biggest draws. However, as tile is much more pricey than just about any garage floor paint, you will probably only be able to cover a part of it. If you cannot afford to spend a ton of money, be sure that you choose tiles which you can add to later on. Make sure you stick to known names, and do some shopping around to assure that you'll be able to find smaller sets down the road.
Install
Tiles are actually quite easy to install. There's very few left on the market that don't install by simply sticking to concrete or clicking together. By far, the biggest concern when it comes to installation should be the condition of the concrete garage floor. Do you have a damaged or really badly stained floor? You'll probably want to avoid the sticky type, then, and go instead with the snap together type. Does you floor still look like new? Peel and stick tiles tend to last longer, and are often cheaper.
Durability
At the end of the day, there's only two major varieties of garage tiles: they're either made of rubber, or they're not. If you tend to work in your garage, then rubber tiles are the way to go. You'll pay more up front, but the additional resistance to damage will make it worthwhile. You might even save money on tools that would have otherwise been damaged by dropping on a harder surface. This is why painted garage floors so often have a layer of rubber garage floor mats as well. If it seems like a waste of money, wait until you drop a tool and put a big crack or dent in your nice, pretty floor.
The Way It Looks
People who work in garages have a way of not caring too terribly much what their garage floors look like. Most guys and gals that work on cars are really only concerned with getting it clean. Of course, there's always the vaunted checkerboard pattern that you can find on just about all types of coverings. There are options, though, and you can usually find multi-colored and solid colored tiles. You might even be able to find some garage floor tiles that are as varied in colors as paint. However, if work is not in your garage's future, you might want to think about staining your concrete instead. It's not only cheaper, but could very well last longer.
