The NSW WeedWise app provides key information to help users reduce the impact of noxious and environmental weeds in New South Wales (NSW). The app profiles over 300 weeds, describing their legal requirements under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993, control information and registered herbicide options.
Users, ranging from home gardeners and residents to farmers, land managers and weeds professionals, can search or browse weed names (common or scientific); recognise a weed by its physical description and image gallery; and find out about its impacts, where it occurs, how it spreads and its preferred habitat.
It is important to know if a weed is declared in NSW under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993, and users can see what legal requirements exist in their own local area, and elsewhere in the state.
Control options are described for each weed and the herbicides registered for its control by the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Authority are listed, including application rates and techniques, and any minor-use permits that must be complied with.

User type - users experience different functions within the app depending on whether they are landholders/residents or weeds professionals.
Landholders/residents can enter the contact details of their local council weeds officer, and then directly report sightings of high priority weeds via email or SMS.
Weeds professionals can share information about a weed with clients via email or SMS, including a weed's profile, legal requirements, control advice and herbicide options.
NSW WeedWise incorporates the content contained in the Noxious & Environmental Weed Control Handbook, a free, biennial publication from NSW Department of Primary Industries.

What's Changed
This update incorporates searching and browsing improvements requested in user feedback. When users tap the back icon after viewing a weed, they will be taken back to their previous search result, or back to the alphabetical listing of the last viewed weed, rather than back to the Home screen (A-K listing).
The links to the alphabet menu have been stabilised at the top of the screen to prevent the need to scroll back to the top of each list in order to move to another section of the alphabet.

Great app in terms of the knowledge available, let down by its usability. When you view a weed and then hit back, it shouldn't take you to the very start of the list. This is important as it makes me not want to spend time with the app, constantly back tracking over the extensive plant list. The other obvious omission is the lack of a key, but perhaps this is beyond the scope of the app.

As a weedo the Information is good but design needs attention! An app like this should have the basic ability of returning to the same point of the last page, but considering it's goverment funded , there isn't any surprise

Very useful app, with valuable info on control and herbicide treatment but the list of weeds is still limited. A promising resource if it is updated with better usability and data base.

Love how you can select the areas that you want to view for weed legislation. Good selection of photos for plant id. Looking forward to having new weeds added.
