Altitude Retriever for Android
Please read this description very carefully!
****************************************
NOTE : GOOGLE HAS INEXPLICABLY REMOVED TRACK SHARING FROM MY TRACKS SO DO NOT UPDATE TO MY TRACKS 2.0.8 OR HIGHER OR YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO CORRECT TRACKS. GPX FUNCTIONS ARE NOT AFFECTED.
If you have already updated My Tracks you can very easily find a copy of My Tracks 2.0.7 APK (program) to download to your device an side load it. My Tracks 2.0.7 is available for download at apk mirror.(http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/my-tracks/my-tracks-2-0-7-apk/).
This is all not under my control. Please try the free "Limited" version of this application first. Refunds will not be given because of what Google has done by taking away a long standing feature of My Tracks. Please do not rate my app poorly because of what Google has done. Many other applications are also crippled by this.
****************************************
Bummed out by how far off the GPS altitude is on your device? Let the Altitude Retriever fetch for out.
NOTICE: Altitude can only be fetched for land surfaces that lay between 60 degrees north latitude and 54 degrees south latitude. Countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and most of the state of Alaska will not work. Please try the trial version first. Refer to http://1.usa.gov/Mq9AW7 for a coverage image.
- Automatically correct and save My Tracks tracks (Version 2.0.7 or earlier)
- Corrected tracks can be uploaded to Google in My Tracks just like any (Version 2.0.7 or earlier) except the altitude is CORRECT!
- Correct altitude in any GPX file.
- It even adds altitude data to GPX files missing altitude data (even in waypoints!)
- Full support for waypoints in My Tracks (Version 2.0.7 or earlier) and GPX files.
Mobile device GPS altitude data is notoriously error prone. This application will use the latitude and longitude values in a My Tracks track, or GPX file, to retrieve more accurate altitude data from the Internet. Note that if any error in your phone's a latitude and longitude will affect corrected altitude data. This will be most noticeable for data related to canyon and mountain side tracks.
NOTE: In order to use this application you must have My Tracks (Version 2.0.7 or earlier) installed and enable sharing in My Tracks.
This is a FULL version. If you want to try it first then install the trial version. It will let you see the fully corrected altitude data in a before/after chart but will only save the first 3 Miles (~5Km) to My Tracks. This will let you verify that all features work on your device.
Key Words: My Tracks, elevation, altitude, GPX, bicycling, running, hiking, correction
This app is amazing! If I could I'd give it 10☆'s, for the app and very helpful developer :-)
My readouts were so horrible that an hour ride was crediting me with 12,000 calories burned. I tried two Android phones because I like My Tracks. This seems really accurate. I now get 220 calories for the same ride, and I'm not doing more than a moderate pace. Thanks. Hope people find this.
I'd given up on elevations from my runs. This makes the corrections easily and seems pretty darn accurate.
This app showed that my phone altitudes were substantially different from the right altitude. Cool stuff.

Works really well for fixing the very odd and extreme (3x actual value) altitude sum gain in Tracks!
