David (hebreo: דָּוִד, «el amado» o «el elegido de Dios»; c. 1040-966 a. C.) fue un rey israelita, sucesor de Saúl y segundo monarca del Reino de Israel, que logró unificar su territorio e incluso expandirlo, hasta comprender las ciudades de Jerusalén y Samaria, Petra, Zabah y Damasco.

La historia de David figura en la Biblia, en los Libros del profeta Samuel y en el Libro de los Salmos. David fue uno de los grandes gobernantes de Israel y padre de otro de ellos, Salomón. Es venerado como rey y profeta en el judaísmo, el cristianismo (católicos el 29 de diciembre) y el islam.

Percepción histórica.

David es considerado como un rey justo, valiente, apasionado; guerrero, músico y poeta, pero un rey, también, no exento de pecados. El fue elegido por Dios en persona de que gobernaría Israel. Se le atribuye la autoría de gran parte del Libro de los Salmos. Aparentemente vivió entre los años 1040 y 966 a. C., reinó en Judá entre el 1010 y 1006 a. C. y sobre el reino unido de Israel entre el año 1006 y el 966 a. C..


Los Libros de Samuel son la crónica principal de su vida y su reinado, continuando con sus descendientes en el Libro de los Reyes. Se han preservado pocas referencias arqueológicas, pero la estela de Tel Dan y la estela de Mesha podrían determinar la existencia, a mediados del s. IX a. C., de una dinastía real hebrea llamada «Casa de David». Además de existir otras referencias en este grabado sobre la descendencia del rey David.

Así también, la costumbre de dejar genealogías en las familias hebreas lo hace aparecer en varias de ellas en la misma Biblia.

La vida de David es importante para el judaísmo y el cristianismo . Su biografía se basa casi exclusivamente en los libros de Samuel, donde se lo describe además como «rubio, de hermosos ojos, prudente y muy bella presencia». David is regarded as a fair, brave, passionate king; warrior, musician and poet, but a king also not without sin. He was chosen by God himself that govern Israel. It is credited with the authorship of much of the Book of Psalms. Apparently he lived between 1040 and 966 a. C., in Judah reigned between 1010 and 1006. C. and the united kingdom of Israel between 1006 and 966 a. C ..


The Books of Samuel are the main chronicle of his life and reign, continuing their descendants in the Book of Kings. Few have been preserved archaeological references, but in the wake of Tel Dan and Mesha stele could determine the existence, in the middle of s. IX. C., of a real Jewish dynasty called "House of David". In addition to other references exist in this engraving on the descendants of King David.

Also, the habit of leaving family genealogies in the Hebrew does appear in several of them in the Bible itself.

David's life is important for Judaism and Christianity. His biography is based almost exclusively on the books of Samuel, where he is also described as "ruddy, with beautiful eyes, wise and very beautiful presence."
