A Game of Thrones Guide for Android
I really like this app for a quick reference to the characters and places in the novels. The only reason it gets 4 stars from me is that the app tends to force close when looking at some of the maps.
About 250mb download yet you still have to download maps and articles? Aside from this and the bait and switch nature of the app (you have to pay to unlock and download info for each book) it is pretty good.
The character profiles are great but when you go to the maps they buffer a lot when it looks like they don't need to. Also it doesn't work too well with the back button. Other than that I enjoy the app.
Nice design, easy to use. I've found some mistakes, no big deal. All in all I like the app. When I need some information it provides the basics. The maps are wonderful.
I like it. No bugs, very informative. I just wish the pictures of the people could be made bigger when you click on them. They are so small you can't see them.
You have to buy stuff to use basically anything. I wouldn't mind if it was certain things, but you have to buy way to much for this app to be useful to me.
App is free to download but comes with everything you want to see locked. To unlock House Stark for instance would cost you 3 or 4 dollars. They have about 10 categories with tens to hundreds of sub categories in each category. Its a cool idea but everything should come unlocked. Nobody wants to pay that much for the app. The writers of the world of ice and fire should feel fortunate that GRRM lets them write a book and make money off his success. It would cost hundreds of dollars to unlock everything.
It's a very informative supplement to the World of Ice and Fire series (especially for those that have only seen the HBO series, such as myself). The one element that is missing, in my opinion, that would warrant a 5-star rating is the inclusion of the House words (or mottos, whatever the actual wording is). Other than that, though, it's a great app to have if you desire to catch detailed summaries of the characters, places, and events that shaped and continue to shape Westeros.
I can't complain. It's a great app. It runs well, it's well designed, and I've had no bugs or crashes in my experience. The spoiler setting is extremely useful, though I wish I could set it by individual chapters instead of whole books at a time. I love love LOVE the Journeys map. Seeing the paths each character has traveled is a great visual tool to enhance my reading experience. I just wish there were more illustrations and pictures for more visual cues.
I've read every book pertaining to Ice and Fire including the Hedge Knight the mystery Knight the Sworn Sword and the world of Ice and Fire on top of all the Game of Throne books and this app just wants your money they won't disclose anything without money it wants you to purchase every little thing for all that why post on here for free
This is a definite must have for all ice and fire/GoT junkies. The small price for ALL content is WELL worth it. Even if u decide to just use the free version still an awesome addition to any glowing rectangle
aSoIaF is my favorite book series of all time and I downloaded this hoping it was a source of info in the form of an app,ya know like a wiki. instead this app makes you pay just to read up on content in the books. It actually expects ppl to pay to research. You'd do better off with wiki. It doesn't even have all the information that it wants you to pay for.
Screen doesn't rotate for tablets. And the advertising is dishonest. This app contains some excerpts from book 6, but not all of them. You still have to go hunting around on the Internet to find the others
This app, when fully unlocked for $5, is loaded with information. The character bios and maps are especially useful. However, I would love to see more, and larger, images throughout, as the tumbnails are a little lackluster. The spoiler slider is also imperfect, and as a result I have had several important plot details spoiled.
The app is useless unless you give them money. Most of the content is locked. The game of thrones free map is pretty cool, I would recommend that instead. And the app of ice and fire, it has the targ dragon as the thumbnail.
Pretty disappointing that the artwork is inaccessible, meanwhile it's shown in the images above, which is false advertising. Seeing as it really helps you visualise the actual descriptions of characters and places and was the main reason I paid for it. With Android as widespread a system as it is, its pretty irritating the artwork is only available on IOS.
With this app it is not a question of if it crashes but when it will crash. Extremely frustrating. Paired with the clunky navigation the app has potential but is very rough.
This app is excellent. I love the journeys feature on the maps. A lot of thought was put into this app, it's quite substantial. I'm more than happy to pay a few dollars to support continued updates, the developers are doing great work here.
From what I read it all comes from the other text materials I've already purchased. I love art and wish there was more of it here. But if I'm going to pay to read what I already know and have read from my other GRRM sources then I'm not too hot on paying for it twice.
Love the features and the free stuff but almost everything requires you spend money to unlock it. Worth downloading though for the map and the excerpts from winds of winter.
The small amount of content available for free is very attractive. Sadly, the free content seems to be just a tiny fraction of the whole series and the prices seem excessive. Things seem to be missing even from the free content; characters or locations, for example, show a thumbnail image in the contents list but no image in the article.
Great to have so much info on one app, for negligible cost. Crashes for no apparent reason though, I send crash report always, no noticable improvement over time.
This app is absolutely essential if your reading or listening to the books. There are a ridiculous amount of people and this app makes it simple to look them up if you've forgotten who or what they are. It gives you maps as well which give a little more depth
You could buy the entire book collection several times over and still spend less than to unlock the content of this app. I'm only estimating, but it appears that to unlock all the content you'd hv to pay HUNDREDS of dollars! RIDICULOUS!!
I like the app very much, but it freezes up on me often where I have to close it and then reopen it again. Other than that, it's great!
Really like the detail put into this, especially the interactive map. The spoiler gauge is a clever feature. A few errors occasionally, and a little pricey, but I had a lot of Google Play credit so it was worth it for me to get all the add ons.
Really useful app. The maps, particularly the journey one, are a great feature. A useful summary of information so far, very well organised. The function allowing you to avoid spoilers is excellent too.
I love the idea for this app. I hope it gets even more expansive and more content added. But the implementation is not very good. The app is buggy and crashes pretty often. The UI seems like they just copied the iOS version, but didn't bother to optimize it for Android much if at all. The back button never works as you would expect it to. Scrolling around maps is not the friendliest experience as it constantly buffers up the next piece you scrolled over to view. The app has potential, but needs some work.
Nice design, easy to use. I've found some mistakes, no big deal. All in all I like the app. When I need some information it provides the basics. The maps are wonderful.
Rich in content. Spoilers setting is brilliant. The maps are fantastic! I'd like to see more of the character artwork & be able to enlarge those pics. I don't watch the series, but might enjoy a little visual content from it. The books are the main focus though, as they should be. Well executed.
I like the app but notice lots of differences between the android and apple versions. I prefer the android version as ALL the exerts show up (yay) and it works well. I purchased the spoiler packs on my apple ipod and wonder if I can get them on the android...hope so, but if not no biggie I won't buy them twice.
Very slow and Internet reliant.it'd have been nice to have the whole thing offline. And the maps a bit faster
While information may not be as abundant as that of the physical twoiaf, it's a great read in spare time on the go and is fun to view all the maps and journeys. It tends to. Rash for me every once in a while. Layout is great. Additional artwork would be nice though as well as journeys for non pov characters.
For fans of the books, and to a lesser extent, fans of the HBO series, this is a useful aid for keeping track of who's who and what's where. Unfortunately, at least on my devices, it is prone to 'stop working', particularly when navigating back from followed links, and navigation doesn't always behave as expected. Would love to see some of these kinks worked out, as well as more content contrasting the difference in storylines between the novels and the TV show.
It worked fine til I updated this morning. Nothing works. Hopefully this gets fixed soon. Edit: Rapid response on a fix. Working like it used to. If you are a fan of the books this is a must have app.
Really cool way to follow along in the books. If you forget who a character is, want to follow the journey of a certain character through the world map or want to study up on different groups in the books, it's all there. Only issue is that it crashes pretty often when looking at maps. Seems like it can't handle all the content. Anyways, definitely worth it if you're a big fan of the books, currently reading the books or just like the show.
I like this app lot but it has a few hangups that'd make it perfect. It seems a shame that the nice artwork is not visible except for the tiny thumbnails or the occasional look on the home screen. It'd be nice if we could separate places based on their region like the reach, the north, essos, etc. Also a lineage of the targareyn kings and more families detailed than ones currently, smaller houses particularly.
I love this book series, and the idea for this app is brilliant. But it seems silly that I should have to pay for infopacks to unlock the information for each book when I've already paid for all five books in the series and the World of Ice and Fire hardcover. The only real reason to use this app is convenience, since I'm able to look all this info up on various Wikis. It just seems ridiculous to make loyal readers pay more for this content when we've already spent lots of money on physical copies of books.

I downloaded and wanted to 'travel' Arya's journey on the map - information I already know, since I read (and paid for!) all the books. It wouldn't even let me advance past the 'Nymeria bit Joffrey' incident without paying... And this was only for a visualization of something I already know. Total rip-off. Instantly de-installed. If you want to sell information, that is already freely available everywhere, please advertise this as it is. Don't try to fool people with a 'free app', when it isn't free at all.
