The Student Room for Android
The app itself is okay, but not great. Posts randomly collapse themselves so I can only see the writer's name, not the post itself. Latex is not recognised at all by the app which is very frustrating for maths/physics threads as it makes everything very difficult to read. The layout is very basic and needs some updating to make it feel and perform a bit better.
This app has been made poorly. Can't login using Google, and it's just inefficient, seems like it was made for Android Ice cream Sandwich or something. Needs a GUI and function update pronto. What good is it if I can't even login when I'm a Google user?
So there was a recent update on the S6 and ever since then I can't use the app correctly. I've tried reinstalling to no avail. I can no longer reply to threads or start them (there used to be a little bubble in the corner that I'd press to select any options like this - it's no longer there). Also, thread replies are sort of hidden and bunched together so I can only see the username of the reply and nothing more. I took a screenshot but I can't get on to TSR to post it...
Edit: There is an error message saying that the forum on the app doesn't exist. Please fix!!!! It is a good app, however it would be great if it was possible to see who you have been quoted by as we can on the website. But overall a good app. :)
I use the TSR website a lot however many of the features on it are not in the app e.g. revision resources, study schedule etc.. the app is also fairly buggy and could do with a makeover. Despite this the app is still useful.
Keeps kicking me out of a thread im reading and back to home screen when i scroll. Very annoying. Not every time though
I've had this for about a week and was working fine but kept shutting down on me. Now I can't even open it- just a black screen. Would be 5* if it loaded properly
It gets the job done. Keeps 'stops working'. Tried removing signature, didn't work.
Firstly, as some others have noted, posts just collapse on themselves and you can only see the username of who posted it. Secondly, it would be useful to be able to search for posts in individual threads
Only reason i gave it a 4 is because i have been notified a few times of the TSR rules and i think i did something wrong each time
Gives you most of the functionality of the web application on the go, including forum notifications which are handy. App can be a bit glitchy at times though.
It lags a lotttt, and you can't really refresh a topic/forum (like the 'drag down to refresh' option in most apps)
Some of the website features don't translate at all to the app, but it works reliably. Good for most basic stuff.
Its good, but could be much better. For example, it would be great if we could see who you have been qouted by and view people's profiles. Also better if we could search for threads using the search bar.
It works fine, but it's unbelievable that almost 4 years without any kind of updates have passed. You should update to fix bugs and all, and to redesign it. It's about time.
Whenever i click on a thread to read, the first few posts on the thread can't be seen, only the posters username and avatar can be seen.
Everytime I got to post a new topic the app crashes and closes down
it's an app, not a mobile site. i feel like it could be a heap easier to use if they would just update it maybe to look a bit more like facebook or tumblr or twitter in regards to it being a bit easier to find your way about. other than that i love it!!!
But some stylistic issues needed, also kinda choppy but great overall
Worst app I've used in a long time. It will load a page for ages and then just give up so I cant actually log in. The search function is crap and you can't filter down results so you end up with hundreds, if not thousands to scroll through. Really disappointed as I want to use it!
The app works well except that it closes suddenly while I'm trying to read a thread. This is really annoying. Often I can only read one or two pages of the thread then when I click on the navigation button to go to the next page it closes. Please fix this issue
In real need of updating. App only has basic functions and hasn't changed in longer than is normal for mobile OS apps. UI is fairly outdated.
Very helpful for all nervous examinees who have too see nightmares abt getting a bad result for months
As of 12/15 they have fixed some issues with refreshing which has bumped up the rating from 2.5 to 4 stars. Not 5 stars because it lacks some functions from the website, most notably rep.
App needs updating!! Also, very buggy. When ever there's an image attached to a post, all the posts on the page collapse and I can't read anything. You could say the app is pretty much useless
Works perfectly. Outdated design though. Edit::: When I click on a notification for an updated thread, it takes me to the thread as expected. But from there, if I want to go to the home page, there's no 'back' button or link to do so. I have to relaunch the app. Could you introduce this simple feature please? Cheers
Quite a good app, quite easy to use, but UI could be improved to look a bit more polished/ up to date
Doesn't make me want to kill myself because the interface is bad; so well done.
Good app but constant crashing makes it unusable
Had this app since release. It's very useful and much better than trying to browse the site from a mobile device. However, it hasn't changed much since being released. It is still missing who quoted me, still missing watched threads and has also had a bug for a few months where it will close the thread if I linger too long around the bottom of a page.
Easy to use..maybe layout can change into sections, like interview threads, news threads, uni threads etc
Its a really nice app and no lags until now but the layout looks really old. I hope you guys can update it :)
This app is easy to use, doesn't crash which is a minor miracle on my phone and does it's job. It was definitely the "sure thing" button that made me write a review. If I was to change anything, I'd update the layout.
Crashes every couple of minutes (TSR has stopped working message). Also returns me to the start page when I'm reading a thread frequently. Well designed otherwise.
Still learning how to use it, the app is great I prefer the Internet version because it is more simple to understand.
Every minute it crashes...unbelievably annoying!
Some features missing however, an easier way to enter BBCode would be great, lots of the smileys from the desktop version are missing too. Also it absolutely DRAINS battery, hopefully soon these will be fixed so I can rate 5. Apart from this though it is a good app, definitely much better than on browser, and all the features this app has, like uploading photos and everything seem to work fine. never had any crash issues or anything.
It's perfect when you are roaming. Keeps you up to date with forms you've subbed to.
Not perfect. App is missing functionality such as Rep and Quoted notifications. Also seems to loose connection when using WiFi. But otherwise a good experience.
