About Roll Initiative

NOTICE ABOUT THE LACK OF UPDATES:

As you can notice the app hasn't been updated in a long time. I created Roll Initiative to learn Android development and to use it myself as I too am a fan of pen & paper RPGs. Since the last time I updated the app Android has seen many changes and updates and because of that the app can present strange behavior in some cases.

Unfortunately right now I don't have the time to update the app with bug fixes or new features. Until further notice this app is considered discontinued. This may change in the future, I may either resume updates or create a new and improved app.

Thank you for using the app - your support has provided me with knowledge about developing for Android and for mobile platforms in general and for that I'm grateful.

Hope to see you in future and better apps.

==========

Roll Initiative is the combat order manager for tabletop RPG’s.

If you are a dungeon master, game master, storyteller or any other kind of “host” for roleplaying game sessions you certainly struggled at least once to keep your initiative order. Maybe your combat involved to many players and NPCs, maybe the number of spells or effects, each one with diferent durations, was to much for you, the fact is that every game host has at least once made a mistake that cost the life of one of his NPCs or worse, one of his player’s character.

Even if you are very well organized and never made a mistake, keeping everything noted on a piece of paper can be a pain. Every new combat you have to write down each player and NPC with initiative order and hit points and during combat you have to constantly change those numbers until the eraser makes a hole on the paper.

Roll Initiative is a very simple and intuitive tool to solve those problems, and all you need is an Android phone.

Those are the current features of Roll Initiative

- Optimized for honeycomb tablets and Android 1.6 – 2.3 phones
- Simple interface to add as many combat participants you want, each one with its own initiative value and hit point total.
- Persistent list, exit the aplication any time you want and it will be exactly as you left it when you return.
- Participants will be ordered by initiative value, highest to lowest. Press “Next” and the list cycles, making it easy to know who’s next in combat order.
- Edit individual initiatives and have the program reorder the list for you.
- Add several NPCs that share the same initiative and hit points with just one click and then manage each NPC separately.
- Cause damage or heal individual participants to keep track of hit points.
- Add magical or special effects and keep track of how many turns each one lasts, Roll Initiative will warn you when an effect has ended.

New features will be added in the future, always keeping the spirit of a simple and fast tool for RPG players and masters.

I just wanted something extremely simple, this comes closest. I wish the highlight would move down instead of moving the name up, and I wish you didn't have to fill all fields Otherwise great

Just a basic combat order tracker in which I can input player rolled initiatives...also thanks for not requiring permissions!

Doesn't fit in my screen. I only get half the form to display when adding or changing info.

ITS GARGANTUAN STRUCTURE DOES NOT FIT MY SCREEN!!!

Not so good if youre in multiple games. Cant save recurring characters. Also theres a problem with initiative order. If two people have the same initiative it puts the person with the lower modifier on top. This is backwards.

I like the design, but on the Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet this is unusable. When trying to add a new entry to the tracker, the box is offscreen and it can't be scrolled to.

Z70%
by Z####:

It's pretty good, but it would be nice if you could move PC/npc around without having to recalculate their initiative if they hold their turn

The layout, while easy to use and understand, is aging and could use an update. Along with that I'm not sure how to remove status effects (like poisoned, dying, etc) when they require saving throws. When using "Next" to move through the initiative order it will prompt the "pass or fail" for the saving throws, but they never actually disappear at any point and there's no option to remove them, only the entire character (from what I've found). If you could specify a number of saving throws it would be more useful, along with them actually disappearing. Other than that, though, this is the only initiative tracker I've found which allows you to both keep track of HP and manually enter initiative, so it's the one I will continue using (for now).

This is a very decent DM tool, with a lot of room for small improvements. I would love to see effects automatically happen on their own, and a reminder when they've expired. It's simpler to use than Combat Assistant, with fewer features, but a more streamlined UI. I've introduced this to a few DMs who love it. We're just waiting on a few things that would make our lives just that little bit easier.

For some reason it's very hard to find something this simple, and finally I've found exactly what I was looking for. Works perfectly on my tablet, the interface is quick and easy to set up, and everything works smoothly. The only problem I have is that the entry screen for new characters gets covered up by my keyboard and I have to keep switching back and forth to know what I am supposed to be entering. Also it could use some things just for quick reference, such as an entry for AC or weapon damage. I'm not expecting an entire character sheet, but a bit of space to write in would be nice.

by B####:

it needs some work to be fully compatible with tablets. The screen size is too large and there is no way to scroll around.

T70%
by T####:

Everything I was looking for! Saves a ton of bookkeeping at the gaming table, and allows you to use your real-life rolls. However, seems very glitchy. Effects would randomly stop being accounted for, which makes the app very unreliable to use.

U70%
by U####:

It would be 5 if you could store data for quick adds like characters and effects. AND, if the effects actually were removed from the character after passing a 'save ends' roll.

Just what I needed. Very easy to use too!

D70%

Love the style of the background and the general look of the app, but it needs more features. For the moment I'll be sticking with Combat Assistant.

This app would seem to be just what I need, but there is some screen size issues that make it unusable.

D70%
by D####:

Very disappointing that it Doesn't have the most obvious feature - randomly rerolling initiative! Boggling.

J70%
by J####:

This app is simple and easy to use, just what I needed. My favorite feature is the ability to use the actual die rolls of my players, an option that most initiative trackers seem to lack.

G70%
by G####:

Works perfectly on my phone, but the interface is different on a tablet, and when I try to add a creature, the pop-up is off to the side, which doesn't scroll, so I can't see all fields, nor can I press the ok button.
