About Shush! Ringer Restorer
When you turn your ringer off for a movie, meeting, meal, or nap, this app turns it back on afterwards.
It's activated when you silence your ringer using the volume buttons (or other means). You don't need to remember a special app! Just change the ringer mode to mute or vibrate, and it automatically pops up and asks you how long to stay silent. Never miss another important call.
Great for class, the office, movies and sleep.
Note to MIUI 9 users
MIUI 9 overrides the standard Android ringer mode logic, preventing the Shush pop-up dialog from appearing when you silence your phone. I have not found a solution to this yet, but I am investigating.
Very important setup step for Android 6+!
Android versions 6+ (Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo) have a battery-saving feature that is activated when the device is idle for a period of time. In this mode, apps may not receive alarms they have registered with the system. If Shush! can't receive its alarm, it can't restore the volume at the time you requested. To resolve this, exclude Shush! from the battery optimization in Settings (exact steps vary for different devices).
Why does Shush! ask for camera permission?
Many camera apps silence the ringer during video recording, and it's disruptive for the Shush! dialog to pop up at that time. Therefore, when Shush! detects that the ringer has been silenced, it checks whether the phone's camera is currently in use; if so, it does not display its dialog. The permission is optional for Android 6+; if you don't give permission, then Shush! won't check whether the camera is in use (if you change your mind later, you can grant it in Settings -> Apps -> Shush! -> Permissions).

Shush not popping up when you silence your phone?
• try rebooting.
• after initial install, or if you have uninstalled/reinstalled, you must launch Shush! manually from the app drawer once, so that it can register with the Android OS to be notified of ringer mode changes.
• see Huawei note below.
Other
• on Huawei devices, you must permit Shush to run while the screen is off and exclude it from battery protection. There are 4 steps to this: 1) launch the Shush app (for some of the following steps, the app needs to be running) 2) Go to Settings -> Advanced settings -> Battery Manager -> Protected apps, find Shush in the list off aps, and turn ON the switch. 3) Go to Settings -> Apps, find Shush in the list of apps, tap on it, tap Battery, then turn ON the switch for "run while screen off". 4) Go to Settings -> Apps, go to the Advanced screen by tapping the gear icon at the bottom of the screen, tap Ignore Battery Optimizations, select All Apps at the top of the screen, find Shush in the list and tap on it, then select the Allow radio button and tap OK.
• on Xiaomi Miui8 devices, when you use the volume down button, it lowers the volume to 0, but does not change the ringer mode to silent, which is what activates Shush! As a workaround, use a quick settings toggle to silence your ringer. • on Asus ZenFone devices, there is a built-in app called Auto-Start Manager, which by default prevents apps installed from the Play Store from running unless they are started explicitly by the user. Since Shush! is started implicitly when you change the ringer mode, you need to configure Auto-Start Manager so that it allows Shush to run. See https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1013752.

This has always been my very favorite app to use. It still works great, except now the volume does not turn back up when the number of hours I have shushed it are over. I forget to look and find I am missing calls because there is no volume on my phone. Any help with this?

Used to work great, and I got very used to using it all the time for work and going out to places like movies. But it doesn't always work now. It frequently doesn't turn the volume back on, and I will still have a bar in the notifications that says the time it's supposed to turn it back on, even though it's hours past that time.

For some daft reason Android 8 (oreo) has left this facility out! Have reinstalled shush on pixel. Looks like it works ok . . . Previously found it easy to use on android 4. Means you can be confident about turning ringer off as you know it'll turn on again at appropriate time.

Very useful well designed app. I've been using it forever. I'm now on android 7, and Shush hadn't been turning back on. The battery optimization hack from Fizz Buzz solved the problem. Working again! Props!???? Oh, if you've had an OS upgrade, and Shush stopped working after that, READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE COMMENTING.

After using the app for a couple of years tonight it quit working. 5 stars until it quit. I found that Shush had a software conflict with another app. The solution they gave me did not work. Shush would not turn on until I deleted the other app.

I've been using this app for four years and have had no complaints up until now. For some reason the timer started becoming triggered when another app turns off the media volume for select apps. This wouldn't really be an issue except for some reason this seems to conflict with the app volume control setting, causing the media volume to suddenly and without warning turn on.

Update #2: Appears to NOT be working again while Daydream is launched. This App cannot be installed on phone if you ever decide you want to use Daydream. Please fix.

When my phone e upgraded from Android 6 to 7 I had to reinstall the app. I went through the process of turning off the doze feature as instructed but it didn't work. Once I reinstalled the app, it is working perfectly. I am happy again.

Love this app! I've been using it for years and couldn't live without it. However, since Samsung has made it so difficult to turn on silent mode (S7), I would love Shush! to have a widget to toggle between vibrate>silent>sound easily.

Great app when it works. Often, for no reason, it doesn't pop up when I turn the volume off. Occasionally when this happens the only way to fix it is to reinstall the app. This has happened on my LG and now my Samsung too. If it wasn't for that I would give this app 5 stars.

Whether I turn the shush off or I'm just on my phone, it will excessively ask me when you shush my ringer. Even if I say not to do that, it sometimes continue to shush my ringer and it has been doing it since I installed it. They know we want to have our ringer off sometimes, but there is an actual point of notifying us.

This has always been my favourite ring silencer, until now. Now it silences my alarms and I can't have that. There's an option to make notifications work but having it on makes no difference. I'm sad that I'll have to ditch this app but I can't afford to be late back from a break at work. I know how the app works - I've been using it for years and I've always liked it until now. Your condesceding answer makes me like it even less. It never used to silence my alarms, just my phone. Now it silences my alarms. I didn't change any settings.

I would like to ammend my earlier 2 star review (Or delete it alltogether) where I expressed my concern for it accessing my camera. After submitting my review I found the explanation for utilizing the camera function. Please accept my apologies for a negative review and thank you for the thorough explanation...I regret that I did not see it before I sent the review. With the exception of my security concern, I have always loved this app and it is the most useful tool I have on my phone.

Was working fine but now when I use volume buttons to lower volume only Media is shown. Ringtone and System volume do not show so Shush no longer works on S7 Edge. Turns out Samsung Soundassistant interferes with this app. Uninstalled SoundAssistant and Shush now works.

Use to work, now nothing. Will miss it. Reply to reply. Then explain why i can test while in my hand. And it will not respond as i toggle sssound and silent. Un then reinstall and yry every ting i cam test to get to work. Sure when phone sleeps is a hoodexcuse but explain an active phone not working. Lame excuses make me angry.

I've been using this app for a few years now and something has always bugged me about it. When the sound comes back on automatically, it brings all sounds back like ringer, media, but it doesn't bring back NOTIFICATION sounds. So I have missed some text messages because the sound is all the way down still on just that one thing. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 running the most recent version of Android. Other than that, it's great.

This was the first app I ever installed on a smartphone many years ago. I've had on each device I've upgraded to and used it religiously. Now, it will not restore my ringer like it used to. It pops up like normal when I silence my phone but it will never restore the ringer automatically. I'm running Android 7.0 on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Please fix this bug. 5 starts if fixed.

Love the app! The only thing I wish for that would make it even better is to set the ringer restore lower than 15%. On my LG G6, 15% is still fairly loud, loud enough to be somewhat annoying in an open office environment. Any possibility of adding a preset restore volume in the settings, with the ability to override with the slider, if desired?

I've used this app multiple times everyday, since 2009! This is the one app I've had across every single smart phone I've owned. Prior to this app, I would always forget to turn the volume back up; which not only caused me to miss calls, but also have a hard time finding my phone when misplaced.

I love this app and it's my top recommendation, even though since upgrading to this Samsung Note 5, it often failed to restore the sound. Excluding it from battery optimizations fixed that, although it would have been nice if the app itself suggested that.

Loved it, but now causes Perfectly Clear app to not work on Galaxy 5. Let's get together with those guys and get it fixed! No excuse for this conflict. UPDATE: Fizz Buzz responded, admitted the problem and kept me posted on the fix. The latest version works great. Very impressed with the company and their app.

Great app, not sure if it features plug-in ability, but that's the only thing I'd add if I were the developer. For example, instead of finding and downloading a different shush-type app, would be nice to schedule some of my shushes.

I love this app!!! My old phone Moto E2nd Gen had the ability to turn off the sound for a set amount of time. Now this app gives me that option once again just by turning the sound off. It opens a window and asks me when I want it to turn back on. I've tried so many other apps. All of the others were quirky and required a lot of programming. I am giving this app 5 stars!!!
