About VCIL Public International Law
R. P. Anand (1933 to 2011) was one of the pioneers of Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), and is widely recognized and respected as a spokesman of the Third World views on the subject. He was Professor Emeritus in the Centre of International Legal Studies (CILS), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. Professor Anand retired from the University in 1998 after being there for nearly 33 years as Professor and Head of the Division. During this period generations of scholars at the CILS benefitted not only from his scholarly writings and passionate teaching, but also from his benign parental guidance.
In a career spanning nearly five decades, Anand authored or edited over 20 books, and published more than 100 articles in professional journals all over the world. He was an elected member of the prestigious Instuit de Droit International, the Vice-President of the Asian Society of International Law and the President of the Indian Society of International Law. Anand was the recipient of a number of awards and honors, visiting scholar for several institutes of higher learning around the world. He was a Lecturer at the Hague Academy of International Law, UGC National Lecturer in Law (India) and also served as legal consultant to the UN Secretary General on Law of the Sea.
We are proud to present this Android App as a further testament and to honour the lifetime writings and studies by one of the greatest international law of our times - Professor R.P. Anand who authored over 23 books and over 200 articles in his lifetime of dedication to the subject. After studying at ivy leagues like Columbia (LLM) and Yale (JSD) he decided to dedicate his life to teaching the subject especially to students in India and other parts of the developing world. He not only taught International Law for more than 40 years as faculty of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University but he was acknowledged as a founding authority on third world perspectives including TWAIL (Third World Approaches to International Law) all over the world. This recognition allowed him to travel to every major country in the world many times over where he attended and gave seminars and speeches as well as participated in major conferences. Prof Anand enjoyed his travels all over the world immensely and provided the insights he gained from these travels in all his writings and teachings to his students back home in India. He was a much sought after teacher even and especially after retirement and loved it so much he continued it all the way till his life's end when finally health did not permit him to continue. Most of Prof Anand's major works have been permanently embedded in this app and can be easily downloaded with a click and read free with any PDF reader. The Virtual Center of International Law which was founded soon after his passing away in 2011 by his dedicated students, colleagues and family members is a testament to Prof Anand's greatness both as an academic, teacher, wonderful human being, brother, uncle, and most importantly dedicated father to his children.
