About New Hampshire 4000 Footers
If you've hiked the White Mountains of New Hampshire, you may have heard of the 4000 Footers List. It was created by the Appalachian Mountain Club to get people to explore more of the mountains, away from the Presidentials and Franconia Ridge. There's fantastic hiking into the depths of the Pemigewasset Wilderness, up the great ravines, along waterfalls and ponds, and in the quiet of the forest.
It's a hard effort to complete the list, totaling more than 300 miles and 100,000 feet of climbing over 48 peaks. But if you've started, or are thinking of doing it, then we're here to help!
The New Hampshire 4000 Footers app is for planning your hikes and logging them afterward, as you work through the list. It features
- An interactive schematic trail map, where you can pick the trails for a hike. There's detailed information about the trails, peaks, campsites, trailheads, and more.
- A log to record notes about each hike, including when it was done and with whom and how long it took, and the weather and trail. There's a media gallery for taking and showing pictures, videos, and audio recordings.
- Summary reports, including the membership application for the 4000 Footers Club. Reports can be saved as PDF or text files, or mailed to friends.
- Searchable databases, to quickly find hikes or peaks.
- Save and transfer of the logs. Your data is yours and not locked to the app. Save the logs as text files for other programs, or transfer the database between devices.
- Help messages for every part of the app.
- Automatic tracking of the winter and year-round lists.
(Note that the trail set is really at a drawn level and not suitable for hiking - you'll need a topo map for that. It includes the trails to and between the 4000 Footers, but not every trail in the White Mountains. Neither we nor the app are associated with the Appalachian Mountain Club. We're just indebted to their work on and off the trails!)
See our website for an APK for phones. You'll need a high-resolution screen and post-Honeycomb version of Android.
Er is ook een groffe vertaling in het nederlands. Bedoeld meer als oefening hoe je meertalige toepassingen schrift - uitlachertjes van taalfouten gratis inbegrepen!

I've had this on my Nexus 7 tablet for a while now, but after some chatter found it doesn't work on the Galaxy S3 or S5. No idea who else is missing out on this, but I'd love to see it pushed further!
