About Pride Counseling

*** WHAT IS Pride Counseling? ***
Built around acceptance and accessibility, Pride Counseling is an online counseling platform for the LGBTQ community. We change the way people get help to conquer life's challenges.

Facing obstacles alone can be daunting. Support and guidance from a professional therapist has been shown to make big changes. Whether you are struggling with mental health issues, your identity, or just need someone to talk to, we want to make help accessible. We created Pride Counseling so anyone can have convenient, discreet, and affordable access to professional help.

*** WHO ARE THE COUNSELORS? ***
Our counselors are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD/PsyD), marriage and family therapists (MFT), clinical social workers (LCSW), licensed professional counselors (LPC), or similar credentials. All of them have a Masters Degree or a Doctorate Degree in their field. They have been qualified and certified by their state professional board after successfully completing the necessary education, exams, training and practice. They all possess at least 3 years and 2,000 hours of hands-on experience. In addition to this, all our counselors specialize in the LGBTQ community.

*** HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? ***
Many people avoid getting professional help because it can become extremely expensive. We want to make Pride Counseling easy and accessible to everyone, so we've created plans which are simple, predictable, risk-free, and affordable. Plans start as low as $35 per week.

If you accomplished your goals or if you found it to be no longer helpful for any reason, you can simply cancel the subscription. Canceling is easy and done online - there are no hoops to jump through.

Well first of all it is not a scam. I just want to be clear about that. I've been using this for about a month now and I find my counselor very helpful. I wish I could edit my discount settings on the app since I accidentally filled out my info wrong but hey such is life. All in all, it's great if you use it. Also they ask questions about sexuality and gender foremost because it is a counseling app for LGBTQIAP folk first and foremost and it is hard finding someone in the real world with certain identities.

On this app I had signed up for counseling, I was excepting a free plan with a voluntary counselor. It is not free, and they do not tell you this until you sign up. I only learned this by looking at the questions on their FAQ. I never got to even get counseling, its like they are trying to say that i do not need counseling. When they ask questions they dont ask questions about self harm, or eating disorders. I was originally going to try to get help for my eating disorder but they did not ask me anything about having one. I believe this is a scam, don't try this app.

Y70%
by Y####:

First of all Total scam. Secondly the questions they asked me were basically what my sexuality and gender was and of I had counseling before And then they told me I didn't need any. Like what?? Gee thanks. No need to ask any questions about self harm or being suicidal or anything. Smh.

I liked the idea of this app - easy access to counselling but it was too good to be true... it matches you with a counsellor, they send a really nice message saying that they want to help etc. etc. (Which i'm sure is genuine and everything) then when you log in to reply, they hit you up for credit card details. This counselling is very expensive so I won't be able to use it unfortunately. Please be upfront about your costs instead of springing it on us!!!

The app worked well up until today. App is blank upon opening but I enjoyed the service up until then. I've noticed there seems to be a parent app called (better-help) I don't know of they have the same councilors or if the pride one has councilors have any special training to help LGBT clients.

I signed up because of a need to connect more than once a week. I was paired with a a great therapist who is pushing me to work my issues, and encourages me to set and reach goals. It's 190 a month for three months them 100 after that. This is cheap in comparison to in office therapy.

I downloaded this to be a guinea pig because of a lack of reviews. I saw no red flags in the questionnaire; another reviewer's comment about Christian or non-religious services is true but incomplete. That's part of a page where you can check multiple boxes, so while those are the only two specific choices (and too limited, yes), it does not actually imply they are the only choices. The terms and conditions are what I find scary. I quit reading when the app refused responsibility for matching you with an appropriate counselor, quality of counseling, etc. Also, counselors are not employees, agents, or representatives. So... What are they? Contractors? Volunteers? People picked at random off the street? This is all too vague and scary for a company you are trusting your mental health and safety to, particularly for a vulnerable population. To get to the meat of the matter (and the fact that this is hidden until the very end is a HUGE red flag), counseling is $45 PER WEEK for the first three months, then $25 PER WEEK after. I think this is pretty odd and offers another red flag. Why is there an incentive to stay longer? Are individuals not provided good enough service to hang around? Seems sketchy that it costs so much to try such a sensitive service as opposed to staying with it. I like the concept, but take a little responsibility and try harder. I'm not comfortable giving them my credit card info.

The screening process asks questions about being paired with a "Christian therapist", or a "Non-religious therapist". So many things wrong with this approach. First off, where are the other religions? Second, a therapist screened by religion? I doubt this is a qualified site and I fear they might harm individuals in condition of vulnerability. NO.

It doesn't say that there's in-app purchases.

Was turned away after a very short review. Was emailed a very patronising response as to their reasons why. I feel let down and disgusted by this company, I never revealed enough information regarding myself to be judged in this manner and I was left feeling bewildered and ridiculed at at time when all I wanted was helo when I answered their and on Instagram. It's a con. Do not download this nonsense from these timewasters.

I am very leary about this app. It just doesn't feel right. I have read a bit of the terms of service. I went through some of the pre-screen questions, but couldn't go further. I'd need to see some more reviews. And so far there's only 2. I've never seen an app with only one download before. I will hold off for a while and check back. The previous reviewer had a bad experience and nobody has replied with an apology yet! For a brand new app you would think they would responsive to reviews. Too many red flags so far. Too bad, our community needs help and understanding more so than others.

Did not get approved because my income is poor and yall woner why lgbt are killing themselfs especially trans. There are people in this world who are going through some tough stuff in life and yall wont help because of their income

Z70%
by Z####:

The counselor they matched me with can't even spell simple words correctly. Seems pretty bogus, I cancelled and won't be returning.

O70%
by O####:

Nope, nope, nope. The biggest red flag: you can't cancel your "subscription" unless you ask your counselor to send you a link. Terribly awkward and potentially bad if you've had a negative interaction with your counselor. Also, I was matched with two bad counselors in a row who didn't meet my listed criteria. Finally, I experienced more than three serious problems with app functionality - including the counselor reporting that they couldn't call me for an appointment we had because the third party app they use for phone calls doesn't work in their phone.
