UK Food Hygiene Ratings

UK Food Hygiene Ratings is a completely free app which gives you the ability to search for the food hygiene ratings for businesses in the UK. The rating given to a business reflects the standards of food hygiene on the date of inspection. You'll be able to get an idea if the food is made of sweet things, or sweepings.

The main screen shows a map of your location with the nearest places shown

Long press on the map to load data around that location

Tap icons on the map to view details of the establishment. Locations which contain more than one establishment are shown with a cross (+), and display all establishments when clicked.

View list of establishments, including individual score breakdown if available

Search for establishments by name, address and business type. You can search using partial details for each field.

You can sort the results using various factors such as rating, distance from yourself, establishment name or rating date

Filter the results by Scheme, rating, date and business type to narrow down the selection.

The app gets 200 records at a time. If more data is available, download the next set of data by clicking on the refresh icon on the right hand side of the information banner at the top of the screen.

Easier to see the score breakdown based on the Food Law Code of Practice Annex 5, which includes:

Hygiene
Level of compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures (including food handling practices and procedures, and temperature control) at time of rating.

Structural
Level of compliance with structural requirements (including cleanliness, layout, condition of structure, lighting, ventilation, facilities etc.) at time of rating.

Confidence in Management
Confidence in management/control procedures at time of rating.

Please note that the data comes from the Food Standards Agency and is supplied by the relevant local authorities participating in either the Food Standards Agency's:
* Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) in England, Northern Ireland and Wales
* Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS) in Scotland

App Permissions:
This app needs these permissions for the following reasons

Precise Location (GPS and network based):
Needed for determining your location to get the relevant data from the Food Standards Agency API

Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
This is required by the Google Maps API. It is only used to cache the map tiles.

Read Google service configuration
Again, needed by the Google Maps API as it uses Google Play Services

Full network access
This app uses the API provided by the Food Standards Agency therefore needs network access

Control vibration
Required purely to vibrate your device when you long press on the map to get the data
