Polk Omni for Android
Update: 2/6/17. Added SB1 plus system with 2 S2's for 5.1 surround sound, it sounds amazing! No problems with drop outs I have 7 of these products connected to a Belkin ac750. Set the DHCP server to forever and I have been streaming FLAC and ALAC music files from my Plex Media server to a A1 amp to Deftech tower speakers. I would say this is truly a modern age speaker system.
Strongly suggest NOT buying any devices utilizing this or the play-fi app until it is completely rewritten. Since latest updates, getting drop outs, audio randomly working only from the primary speakers.. Other units won't stream at all...without resetting the app. PIA. POS.
As a Polk reseller, it"s a shame that I've buying their V60 series and RT's speakers for over 5 years but when comes to wireless technology they suck. The worse is that last days I did call asking if their API exists, they pretty much keep me on hold. Core brands are better in customer service without a doubt.
This system will only play radio quality sound on all speakers at once, and high-definition on only one speaker at a time. The app does not give you the option to change to the quality that you want to use. Customer support was not available until stated 9 PM, with no answer after 7:30 EST. The same customer service rep both times I did get through sounded like he was bored as hell and his only advice, reinstall the app to see if changing sound quality option comes up. Back to magnolia this goes!
Im having the exact same issue as Corrine Rawle! Update failed part way through now not able to connect wireless with my phone. Super frustrating!
F-. Can't search your music library or any Amazon prime music. Because it does not support YouTube, the app and expensive speakers I bought are worthless. Will return expensive speakers due to horrible software.
Missing basic features like "search" so if I want to listen to a specific song, too bad. Will also unsync if I get a text message, and won't resync without a hard reboot. App is so bad I tried to return the related hardware, but was told the app being garbage isn't their problem. And to be fair it's not, but the people making the software clearly couldn't care less.
If you use a moderately up to date router and use the music services that this app provides, than this omni system will work perfectly. Belk in AC 1200
Took me ages to get the setup done initially. The advice to move close to the wifi router inexplicably worked, though I wasn't far away (20ft) in the first place. The app works OK if a bit unintuitive in its navigation. The music sources selection is OK but doesn't support Google Play Music. Instead I use a Chromecast Audio hooked to the back of the Omni S6 which works a treat. If you want to use the Spotify Connect feature you need to be a Spotify Premium subscriber (fair enough)
I mainly purchased a Polk SB1 system with additional speakers to stream Pandora. After the app updated, I have been unable to login to Pandora though the app completely. It's not a simply PW issue, I can access Pandora seperate from the Polk/DTS app with no issues. The app is garbage and it ruins an otherwise nice sounding wireless system.
If I could give you zero stars I would. After being prompted to update I selected ok, now none of my devices will connect
Pay alot of money for speakers and the stupid app will not let me connect
Same as everyone else, thpught I was buying a quality unit, just cannot no way no how connect to the SB1, might as well be a door stop
I got this S2 wireless speaker a month ago. This app worked okay for a month. Two weeks ago, it stopped working. Every time it asks me to update speaker firmware. I follow the steps. After few minutes it fails. App does not even have an option to skip update. I cannot use this app anymore. Busted!! I can use my laptop to pay music on S2. I wish I could post screenshots.
The wireless experience of the Polk Omni stuff is the worst I've seen. In terms of how finicky it is and how much trouble it is to use it, it's up there with printers. In fact, I have FEWER problems with my wifi printer. The latest update requires that ANY device it detects be updated before it will allow you to use the app, even if you just want to use an updated speaker and not the one that is not. I have one speaker that absolutely refuses to update. I have to unplug it to use the rest with this app. The speakers sound great. The wireless connectivity might as well not exist for me. However, because I CANNOT turn off wifi, I have to keep the updated to make sure I get the latest potential security fixes. If you like Polk speakers, stuck with their non wireless versions.
The worst system I have ever used. No manual. Had to call tech to get it up and started first time. Never has work right sense. Either one or the other speaker works. Can never get both to work at same time. Have tried Uninstalled then reinstalled, still no help. All in all THIS SYSTEM SUCKS TO THE HIGH HEAVENS! Would never ever recommend it. Wish I could get my money ey back and buy something that works right.
It needs to let us play whatever we want. I want to use it with YouTube music but it doesn't have that music service. Its fine otherwise but it needs more music services or just connect to any sound coming out.
didn't even connect to my speakers it does not even show how to do it
Really digging the app updates and the new functionality. Also love the new look to the app! So many music services and great ways to configure your wireless speakers to play any way you want, anywhere in your home. Plus, the Polk sound is just so good. Keep fighting the good fight, Polk!
Just lowered to a one star. Sound just stops for no reason - loses conection too often. Tough sleddin with this app for sure. Sound quality changes greatly over different volume levels. Too much bass at low volumes. Seems to change the equalization as volume increases which is fine to get more volume. Polk sound isn't what is used to be. Seriously just add a small 3 band EQ and should be able to sort some of the sound quality out at low volumes.
What a joke from a big manufacturer. Fire your entire development team. Use Android standards such as material design and plug in api's. Last time I purchase a Polk product. Google Music
Great speaker with TV but after last update, Android phone could not find it. But update in other utility corrected problem.
Good sound! It's not blue tooth and lack of connecting to other devices. But radio many stations around world.
Stopped working on Pandora. Will not connect through app!
Same problem as Emily and others - what is being done to fix this?
this doesn't bode well...
Software is unreliable
If & when the app connects, it sounds great. It never proficiently worked right out of the box. Requires an uninstall & reinstall every time I want to use it. Then...it doesn't recognize my music files. Pandora is a crap shoot. I have my TV hooked with an optical cable so that sounds great. The WiFi connection function (the sexiest part) is junk. Disappointing at best.
This app is by far the worst. I just purchase a brand new omni sb1 and I am a few seconds ds away from returning it and go for a jbl sb. I had always held polk to be one of the leaders in music but I guess that's far from true now. Maybe their tech is a few years behind. My wife and I have been trying to sync her iPhone, my galaxy s6 edge+ and nothing. I have even gone as far as dragging the sb next to the router and yet no luck. BTW that's with full range of wifi. This sucks with wifi
Great speaker with TV but after last update, Android phone could not find it. But update in other utility corrected problem.
I'd like to see the ability to control speaker volume without transferring the input to the phone. Eg. If the TV volume is too low and I can't see the TV because I'm in a separate room, listening to the game. Also, not that I'd use it a lot but I can't connect to any Internet radio, anywhere. Maybe a tutorial on what to do would be nice
I've been buying Polk speakers for over 35 years and am a huge fan. This app, on the other hand, is a huge disappointment. While the most basic features work adequately, attempting to use it in conjunction with a media server is an exercise in frustration. You can't search for an artist, you can't pick a starting letter to get close to where you want to be, nor does it bring up the whole list and allow you to scroll down. Instead you have to try and scroll, hit the lazy load limit, wait for the next chunk to come it, and repeat over and over until you get what you want. And don't mess up because you'll have to start all over. The app developers are nothing short of incompetent in this area of the app.
Makes the Play-Fi feature worthless to me.
The speakers are very close to my router and the signal is strong. Sometimes after 20 min or 1h30, music will stop playing. Connection was lost. I have to manually reconnect and I loose my songza playlist.
Very good app but you guys should add sound cloud and YouTube for more variety
The speakers are fine, but the android app does not just route whatever audio is on your device to the speakers... It had to be one of the sources listed in the app. This is a dumb requirement. On the PC app any audio I play goes out to the speakers in stereo, so it gets rid of the dumb requirement. Go that way until they finish this app, but it is annoying.
App works flawlessly on my wife's iPhone but crashes after 10-15 minutes of use on my Android. Every time! So annoying.
Seems that each update makes the system less stable. Too bad because speakers sound great when they work.
Not working very well, spotify doesnt stream music through the omni app even if it's in your list of options, crashes several t2mes, doesn't group speakers at the same time

This system and app used to work perfectly. Set up no problem, worked seamlessly with my phone. I used it multiple times a day to stream music. Then the app prompted a software update on the soundbar. The update failed and then I was unable to even detect the device. After unplugging and plugging back in, I can detect it now but it will not let me stream unless I do a software update, which fails every time. It is a vicious cycle. My soundbar is now useless wirelessly. Would have given five stars before.
