POLITICO for Android
The app crashes and restarts every time I read an article. Instead of refreshing the page, I get sent back to front headlines page. This is really tiresome when you have to scroll down to click on the article.
The alerts are always blank when I click on them, so I know something has happened, but I have no idea what has happened. Edit- now the alerts won't even open. I'm not going to use this app anymore, it's very poor quality; frankly it's been a huge disappointment. Get your act together.
I have enjoyed reading the articles very much, but am having problems with the app. It is stuck on a 3 day old edition and I cannot refresh. Uninstalled and reinstalled to no effect. Any suggestions?
Sometimes the articles don't refresh for days, and often the push notifications are dead links. All that was tolerable, but since the Android update the app now freezes during opening and the push notifications are completely broken. I had to delete it entirely. Fix your app, and I'll download it again.
Decent app. Refreshes stories slow lately. Also full page ads pop up while you're reading the story and keep popping up after exiting them.
The layout isn't bad but it's not great either. If you were able to comment on stories I'd probably rate it higher but without the comments section there's not a compelling reason to use the app rather than just visit the site in my browser
Installed for the political silly season but killing it now. The alert titles are too long to display useful info, and half the time when I open the alert it tells me 'alert not available at this time'
News is not refreshed and the latest news is dated 1969, albeit about Trump. Last app update is from over 2 months ago. This app has not been made with either love or commitment.
I love the articles, but the primary reason I installed this app was for the notifications for breaking news. Updating my phone to 7.0 Nougat broke the notifications. Whenever I receive one, the notification just show up black with only about 5 characters of the title showing. This isn't a problem with the update as all other notifications work fine. Also, if I tap the notification to see the article about 5 seconds after it pops up, the app tells me the alert is unavailable. Fix these problems, I'll rate 5
About half the time I get a push notification the clicking it brings me to a screen saying there is no news updates at this time. That would be okayish if I could read the gist from the push notification but you can't as it doesn't expand its size and you only see the first like 4 or 5 words. Makes news hard to get from the app.
Not a bad app. Have had it for years. My only problem is the person handling their 'alerts' rarely sees fit to send any. Now that the Republican Convention is on, it happens a little more often, but in general I hardly get any. Who decides what's valuable information to send an alert about?
Update - close to a month into Nougat, had to disable Politico notifications. Great news, quick notifications of important happenings. Update to Nougat, guys! Notifications are unreadable! Had an issue back on Marshmallow where all dates were 1969, had to uninstall and reinstall to fix. Pay your developers, Politico!
As much as I love the app/content when it works, currently it's utterly broken on my Pixel XL (and has been for a number of weeks). I have repeatedly temporarily solved the problem by reinstalling but shortly thereafter the app refuses to launch indefinitely. Please fix, I'd love to update my review to a higher score!
Since the US 2016 election this app has not worked, showing a 31 Dec 1969 date as the date last refreshed. Used to work very well but now not anymore.
Your app sucks. No updates since 2/18. Refresh useless. It's ok though because absolutely nothing is going on in the political world now that Trump has brought everyone together with his all inclusive message.
I love Politico itself and their in depth reporting, but its app leaves something to be desired. The sharing mechanism is flawed. Sharing to the Messenger app (FB) takes me to FB itself, not Messenger. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it more than once hoping it was something on my end, but nope. I'll continue to use it because of the content.
Its amazing the vast difference for political apps for ios and Android and this app is just one more. It has a dated look and crashes a lot. With Android 7.0 notifications are broken and unreadable.
I do enjoy Politico articles and this app was serviceable up until the last month or so. But the ads have started to become more obtrusive. The latest problem is that it no longer updates its news. I've begun reading other reviews here and I guess I'm not alone. There's no workaround - it simply isn't being kept current. A closer look reveals the app hasn't been updated since 2014. I'm uninstalling. Oh well.
Overall the app does what is expected of it: provide political news. But some improvements could be made. For starters, the notifications do not allow you to "peek" by dragging them down. The UI needs a more modern look and feel as well.
This news source is incredibly baised, a perfect example was an article about American mayors "demanding congress to act on gun control". Throughout the article it was presumed that this was a wide reaching survey that spoke for mayors everywhere, instead it turned out to just be a sample of 45 mayors who were 85% democrat. Great survey.
I have never loved this app, but I enjoyed reading the left wing perspective from time to time. For the last 6 months, the app loads new stories, but when I click to read, they never load. Ever. I once waited 10 minutes just to see. Nothing. The screen stayed white. Its annoying. So I am giving up on this P.O.S. app and deleting it, finally. Half a year of not loading basically tells me that someone in the Politico IT department ought to lose their job. Terrible.

Love politico and love the site. Annoyingly the app has a bug - the date sets to 1969 and articles don't update because of this.... about 2 years ago it worked fine and then I had to uninstall because this bug appeared... political junkie detox made me try this app again and the bug is still there!! Please fix this - it's worse than mitt Romney's Orca project (I know that's gotta hurt)
It says that even article was published 21/12 1969. I'm unsure whether I'm reading the lasted news or not. Notification sometimes opens the wrong article. The news are good though! Thank you for good journalism, but work on the app!
Honest question. The writing is infantile which is why I am asking. Worst journalism I've ever read. I'm not averse to Politico's positions as much as I am their lack of ability to write anything coherent.
Great content but only posts to Facebook messenger, I'd like to share content in Facebook. That got fixed but now it defaults to post to a business page. Hopeless!!! Time to try something else.
The app has Dec 31, 1969 on every article and won't refresh. I've uninstalled twice now but nothing changes. Please help!
It would be wonderful, were it not for the inability to refresh content. And it's dating every article to New Years Eve, 1967! There is no way of receiving new stories. Have tried uninstalling and it doesn't work.
In 2011 P was the quintessential site for the Primary, giving each candidate a fair shake with up-to-date articles conveniently organized with each candidate's tab. Since those days P has done some major overhauls; aesthetically they've made their interface sleeker, but journalistic integrity has slipped; they've become a rag sheet. Since Trump's emergence, his name has dominated their headlines, while they put out innacurate hit pieces on Rand and black out every other candidate. Deleting.
Worked fine on my Samsung Galaxy S4. But updated to an S7 and the app won't refresh. Time stamp on all articles appears to be 1969...
Its amazing the vast difference for political apps for ios and Android and this app is just one more. It has a data look and crashes a lot.
The app is not updating the new articles. Everytime I open, I see the same outdated articles with "The Vive President No One Should Want" in the top. Also, the app shows those texts have been published in 1969. Please fix this bug.
All my news are dated Dec 31, 1969... When I go for a refresh nothing happens. Oddly, the app works well in my tablet running on Android 5.1 but does not work on my phone running on Android 6.1
Not!!!! What a waste. All articles are stuck never updating. Their date stamp 12/15/1969. Really. How to update? Install and then uninstall and reinstall. Yes it is 1969
I have to reinstall each time I want to refresh the content after the last update. Date posted always is 31/12/1969 for some reason
Some of the news apps like Huffington are good but eat up too much data, which I pay for. Politico's data usage is reasonable.
Very great app. One thing to fix. Every time I open breaking news alerts it goes to a story from 2011. The other day it was a breaking news alert about Speaker Boehner I opened it and it was a news story about Scott Walkers recall. Others have included Mitt Romney accepting his party's nomination and Tim Geithner staying on a Treasury Sec through election.
Whenever I recieve notifications about updates, the link always brings me to a different story and I am unable to find the original article that I was interested in. This is becoming a problem and I will soon be looking for new political sources if this is not fixed. Fine app for keeping up quickly with political events that are not covered by most news sources. Should be used as a source, not THE source because there is bias as is to be expexted.
Very biased, too many euphemisms to protect the democrats. Antagonistic towards conservativism, this is not the best option for people looking for unbiased news. For instance, in an article published today by By Burgess Everett & Jennifer Haberkorn, I read, "... after a series of controversial videos have shown Planned Parenthood employees discussing the donation of fetal tissue." It's not a donation if you don't know you're giving it, that's called stealing. It's also not a donation if you're being paid.

The notifications are broken. App needs redesign. I used to have an iPhone and the Apple app was great. However, the Android version is nearly unusable. Tempted to delete if no update soon.
