What are users saying about Velociraptor - Map Speed Limit

Nice implementation. It takes a little effort to set up. I switched from a windows phone (uses Here) so i was craving the speed limit display on Google maps until now. I'd like to see an option to customize the over limit notification sound.

App was updated and now works in Turkey just fine. Thanks!

R70%
by R####:

The good: I give it two stars instead of one because the layout and customization is wonderful. I see tremendous potential for this app. The bad: Speed limit info is available far less that half the time, at least in the areas I usually drive (Portland, OR and Denver, CO). When speed limit info is available, it is accurate about half the time, maybe a little better. There is no "easy" way to correct or add speed limit info. I am hopeful that speed limit data for this app will eventually become more available and accurate. Until it does, however, the app is nearly useless.

R70%
by R####:

Works exactly as advertised, unless you're on a major highway though don't expect much speed limit info, also. speed reductions when going through small towns isn't very accurate. If they can complete their database of speed limits accurately this is a monster program. Seems like there should be some way to use a worm to get speed limit info from some other info source.

R70%
by R####:

This app is really wonderful. All of the people complaining about missing speed info...that's outside of the scope of this program. It clearly states in the description that it's pulling that information from other sources. You should be going to those developers and providing them feedback on making their databases more robust.

R70%
by R####:

It works nice, but the coverage is rather poor. Nerd stats show that Here Maps is false, and both osm servers are false. So, while my town is pretty well-covered in OSM, Velociraptor quite often doesn't show the limit.

B70%
by B####:

It didn't seem to work told me my speed but it would never posted speed limit of what I wanted that to do so it doesn't seem like it's worth anything

R70%

Application doesn't show speed limit

T70%
by T####:

Does what it says. Any chance this could be made to appear on my android auto screen when viewing the map on there?

R70%
by R####:

Need more speeds! Shows like 5% of roads in Minneapolis area.

D70%
by D####:

Doesn't work in France! :-(

R70%
by R####:

Works as advertised. If the alert sound was user configurable I'd give the fifth star.

G70%

Thank you!

R70%

Works great. Exactly as advertised on my Nexus 6P! Love it!

R70%
by R####:

I made the suggestion of the speedometer only showing when navigating in Maps, and it was added in the very next version! Don't know if that's a coincidence or not, but hey, made a nice app even better. Time to email again about adding custom over speed limit sounds.

Awesome

R70%

Worked right out of the perverbial box. Just need to give it access to Google Maps. Gives you a speedometer on your Google map. Display is movable and resizable so it doesn't get in the way. Gives you your speed and the posted speed limit. It can easily be set to warn you if you go a set amount over speed limit. Only small niggle is that posted speed limit is not always correct. It would be nice if there was an in app feature to correct these. This app makes Google Maps as any fully featured Sat Nav.

C70%
by C####:

Can't setup - can't give location permission and overlay at the same time. Resolved this issue by temporarily disabling screen overlay privilege for apps actively using screen overlay. In my case it was Appsi and Floating Toolbox. Then I could configure Velociraptor. Once configured, then I could re-enable screen overlay for Appsi and Floating Toolbox. Now the app works great!

A70%
by A####:

I love the idea of having the speed limit available while navigating! I hate the fact that many streets don't have data and the data you do get isn't reliable. I was on a street where the signs said 35 but the app said 30. A mile later on the same street the speed changed and the signs said 30... but then the app was saying 35. Free or not it needs to be accurate and reliable. It is useless if you can't trust it.

R70%
by R####:

The speed limit database is far from comprehensive. Most roads in my area show no speed limits and a small percentage of the speed limits that are shown are incorrect. This makes the app nearly worthless. The description says that Velociraptor also uses the Here maps speed limit database, but this can't be true. I am running Velociraptor with Here maps and Here maps usually shows a speed limit when Velociraptor does not. Please remove Here maps from description. 5 stars for concept, 0 stars for usefulness.

R70%
by R####:

Can't even start to work with it. Doesn't let me provide location permission because supposedly the screen overlay is turned on (which, by the way, is manually turned OFF by me). So weird!

R70%
by R####:

Developers: If you want to gather speed limits through community effort you'll need to add a report feature to the product - tap the speedometer when you're going close to the speed limit, tap again to verify. I have made several updates to OpenStreetMap but I don't think you'll get enough users doing that to get adequate coverage.

R70%
by R####:

I use this app extensively on my sport touring motorcycle. I'm often unable to hear the sound over the wind and my music. I wish I had control of the alert tone and volume level.

R70%
by R####:

Worked fine on the highway easily picking up limit. Problem I have is how it said the limit should be 20km/h in 40/50 zones around my house.

R70%
by R####:

When I first downloaded this app months ago, it didn't work at all. I recently tried it again and now it works just fine. It fills a void in the standard maps app by allowing you to see your speed and the speed limit at all times.

H70%
by H####:

Works great but I give it a 3 star for the beep sound for test? What is that? Needs an option to cut it off. It's so annoying I may have to remove the ap.

R70%
by R####:

The look is great and local works well on bike. Just getting use to it before the longer trip. But we'll do more of update on the operation then. If it works well this make Google maps more than an equal to the here maps which with the speed warning and limits made it better than others for A to B routs. With this apps help google A to C via B routes drives is even better potentially.

O70%
by O####:

Unfortunately Here maps data has been gone for months, and the remaining data mostly shows no speed limit or when it does, it is often inaccurate. Therefore rating drops.

R70%
by R####:

The navigation app called Here Maps has much better coverage than this very limited software. It only works on major highways we're Here works almost everywhere.

C70%
by C####:

Love the quick setup to get going. Had much more speed signs than I thought it would out of box. Few extra features would be nice, I know map database is something already noted. But how about alert sounds? Seemed too quiet to alert me, whether Bluetooth or not. Would be nice to change sounds/volume.

Y70%
by Y####:

Works reliably enough for guidance. I would like to be able to dismiss/hide it as I use Maps for many other things other than driving.

R70%
by R####:

Accessibility setting doesn't stay stuck after it has been set, requires re-setting every few minutes.

R70%
by R####:

Exactly what I was looking for. Works seamlessly in MAPS and HERE. Two suggestions: 1. Allow size=0 to disable speedlimit logic completely (makes no sense here in Thailand) 2. Allow size up to 200% for high-PPI devices

R70%
by R####:

It worked amazingly, when it worked.. But it kept dropping the permissions that I gave it, and so it ended up being essentially useless.

R70%
by R####:

The graphic is great but the display is hardly of value. All I get is the current speed I am traveling. I already had a speedometer app. for that. The only place I am getting a posted speed limit displayed is on the expressway. There has to be a way to get other posted speeds shown, what is the answer? Waze gives me that everywhere I drive but I prefer G/maps as my app of choice. In another review do I understand that in order to get the speed to show on roads other than the interstate that a paid subscription is required? If so pls explain this. If that makes it work just as Waze does I am NOT opposed to paying for that.

C70%
by C####:

Only occasionally does it actually update the speed limit. Most of the time it says -- but hey.. everything else works as it should. So 2 stars! Nashville TN - Galaxy S7 Edge

U70%

Causes the infamous "overlay screen detected" problem, therefore messaging all your permissions up.

R70%
by R####:

A lot of the routes (even main) are not covered so it really makes app somewhat useless. It shows how to edit and add I guess, however, I could not figure it out. Needs some major upgrades.

Z70%
by Z####:

So far so good! Haven't any issues across Victoria and South Australia so far.

N70%
by N####:

Took a while for me to enable it but all good now. I wish for a edit tool with it so I could help updating speed limit of roads I usually go.
