Plex VR for Android
In its current state, I would say find another solution for watching your Plex library in VR. At the moment, the VR environment they offer is very cartoony. The app also doesn't perform well in most cases. VR is all about immersion and these issues don't provide that in this case.
Not bad. The environment looks very pixelated compared to other apps. You can't lay down while using the app, so you have no choice but to sit up.
I'm a premium Plex user. Love the idea of Plex VR but unfortunately you can't lay down and watch movies like Netflix VR. In Plex I have to be sitting down to watch the movie. Edit: increased my rating by 1 star for prompt response from developer. I'll try the workaround and edit my rating afterwards.
It's new and great but man is it buggy. The picture will slowly move to the left and video also freezes after long sessions. One really frustrating thing is every time you adjust the timeline, you get kicked out of VR mode. Very annoying. The whole shades coming down everytime you pause or if it buffers gets old fast. I may sound like I'm hating on that app but I'm not. I really really love this and I know for a fact that the Plex team will be right on it. This just launched too so it can't be perfect. On a future note I hope the Plex team will add everything that the normal Plex app has into VR. I find myself jumping between normal Plex and VR alot because the search and filters are very limited. My favorite is the folder view and that is not existent. Keep up the good work Plex team!
No support for Plex music and photo libraries???
Fantastic app and one of the main reasons I got Daydream was the anticipation of a VR update for Plex! And now here we are! Two requests like other people had mentioned would be able to watch this while lying down in bed and syncing offline content. Thank you Plex team! You guys rock!
Really good for a first version. Needs a little work with the anti-aliasing as it seems more jagged looking around the edges compared to other daydream apps. This is a wonderful experience though . I love it
This is a good first version but there are some important things missing/broken. 1. Unable to adjust vertical orientation on 3d content. I expect it to work by clock staying just like horizontal orientation. 2. 3D settings (sbs, 2d, over under)are broken/reset whenever you skip or go to a different part of the timeline. 3. Users and restrictions not used. N general sense like a very thoughtful first attempt though and look forward to revisiting periodically until those issues are addressed
Great start! Pretty reliable and a nice immersive experience. The environments could use a little work, especially with anti-aliasing in the apartment. Also, the screen drifts a little, not sure why.
Doesn't work in airplane mode with local content. Doesn't auto detect 3D video (required manually setting video type). Love that you can resize and move the screen (perfect for recliner chairs or lying in bed)
Really good first release but let down by two big flaws for me. First one is that 3d settings reset every time you pause or skip, meaning you have to reset the settings everything. The other is the reset orientation doesn't allow for vertical adjustment. If I'm lying in bed then I'm stuck looking at the ceiling in the vr scene
Has tremendous potential, but it crashed 3 times in 30 minutes when trying to watch a show. Love the interface though!
Doesn't work with Samsung VR. Have to install daydream app that also doesn't work with Samsung VR.
It stutters and freezes on the higher quality videos plus the motion isn't fluid from one area to another
This is exactly what I wanted. Plex team did amazing work here. I am very excited about this. I am happy to be a plex pass lifetime subscriber. They deserve every penny.
Love this app. especially the adjustable / moveable floating screen so I can watch lying on my back in bed!!!! Great addition to the Plex brand!
Best VR theater app I have used yet
Amazing first attempt. I just love PLEX
The app is amazing! It's everything I want from plexvr The daydream on the other hand is a total piece of junk, using it over heats my s8 plus which has never happened before, the head tracking is garbage compared to Gvr and you can't adjust for vision. AND it's highly frustrating with it constantly demanding you take the phone out and put back in.
Everything works well together. If there is a way to move the screen so you could watch things lying down, I haven't seemed to be able to find it. Would have been 5 stars otherwise!
Working great so far. Please add syncing, esp for 3D content and travel. 3D worked great at home, but can't get it going remotely. Watched for 2 hours in a row on the Pixel 2 XL. Got a little warm but was fine.
I have Plex pass. Good start, gets hot very fast. for 180 or 360 I get better results with plex's dlna turned on and using skybox.
Awesome app! Well done! If you have issues, please, make sure that you are using Daydream VR compliant device.
This new version works just fine. Though, I'd be nice to have access to the playlists.
Never thought I would enjoy watching shows in VR but love it. Especially on a plane.
What a fun way to watch my Plex videos.
Works well!!! Audio is little quiet
Working fine on pixel XL 2
No subtitle support, settings missing or confusing.
I'm having a bit of an issue.. I only get a single image that covers the screen. I can't move my head. And it complained that my Daydream headset is not compatible with this cardboard app, even though this is a daydream app. Otherwise, the features I've seen seem to work well enough. This does not happen in any of my other VR apps.
So I have not tried all of the features yet but "out of the box" I love everything about this. I can lay on the couch and watch plex. I can get in the bath and watch plex (granted I have to know where the towel is to not get the fabric daydream soaked). But there is so much potential here. I love throwing a cup or plate at the screen when something happens I don't like or just for fun. Just another great program from plex!
The controls take some getting used to. The system settings to change scenes isn't very prevalent also of you pick up a plate then you have to hit the menu to get the screen back. Like this a lot thanks for adding it.
So this app would be pretty great except it won't find my library. The non VR app knows where my library Is, but not this one! Also it like froze my controller until I uninstalled the app then it started working again. It works well with content on the device.
Very poor, it freezes. I have a note 8, and had not been able to stream. It restarts a couple time before it freezes when I select a video. I get NULL on the big screen.
The implementation isn't bad but the concept and hardware support is. Hardware first. The resolution in daydream is anything but good. I feel like I'm watching my HAD stuff in SD. As for the concept, I'm not convinced this is a good idea. Perhaps things will change as support for better hardware comes over time.
Pretty good, within the limitations of Daydream, and surprisingly watchable. I was able to watch for about 15 minutes before my Pixel XL got so hot it started popping up messages telling me it needed to be cooled down, and the screen keeps needing to be re-centred as it drifts slowly to the right. Sadly Google's Daydream isn't really up to it, certainly not on the Pixel XL. Not Plex's fault, this app would be pretty good on better hardware.
I liked using this app a lot, after watching a few things it makes me want to start adding some actual 3D content to my library (something I've been putting off since I didn't have a device or television that could support it). That said, something I felt like this app is currently missing that I end up utilizing a lot on other platforms is the ability to change the both the audio track (usually spoken language) as well as subtitles, when multiple are available.
Absolutely brilliant... The perfect solution for TV and movies anywhere. A few very minor bugs, but solid performance and good UI execution. Supports 3D content!
Recently got a daydream and was disappointed I could use Plex with it. This is awesome news!!

Good, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Plex is great for how it organises movies and TV shows and as always it does that very well. The thing with this is that it has direct competition - skybox, and to put it bluntly, as of now it isn't as good. More environments, better screen, and generally more options. The only thing inferior is that it has no organization for movies which Plex has. Put more into this and it will be excellent, the "multiplayer"thing is a good idea, as is the interaction with the environment. It just needs a bit more to match up.
