About TeachMe.Now
WARNING! You can't use this app alone by yourself. It facilitates learning with real people in the real world.
The TeachMe.Now app facilitates a revolutionary way of learning and training.
Underlying the learning approach are the following insights:
- Learning 1:1 from someone is better and faster than watching a video, teacher demo, or lecture.
- Everybody has a lot of knowledge and experience.
- One doesn't have to be an expert teacher to teach one thing.
- Structure and talking points are all that most people need to successfully teach something.
What the app does for learners:
- See a curriculum of learning missions, levels, and courses.
- Track progress of learned missions.
- Provide teaching tips to teach others a the learned missions.
- Find mentors to learn specific learning missions from.
What the app does for curriculum creators:
- Create your own private curriculum with courses, lessons, and learning missions.
- Invite friends, colleagues, or clients to your private curriculum.
- Organize learning events.
What learning domains does the app come with:
- Argentine Tango: The Oxygen Tango community teaches learning missions in Los Angeles (see http://www.oxygentango.com).
- Demo domains: Examples that show you how you can build your own curriculum.
Ideas for private learning domains that you can create:
- Any sport or art that requires hands-on instruction, e.g. Salsa, acroyoga, Judo, piano, cooking.
- Business training examples:
-- A coffee shop has business operations that employees need to learn, e.g. opening, closing, inventory, customer escalation. Typically, one person has to train all employees. The app makes it easy to find employees who have learned a particular operations and can teach it. A motivated employee who wants to learn can find people to learn from faster. A supervisor can let employees organize their own learning and check the progress.
-- Sales people have to learn product knowledge. Typically, a class trains a group. It's a hassle to organize and get everyone into the same place. The app let's sales people spread the knowledge among themselves. As two sales people meet at an airport, the app shows them which products they could teach each other. It'll provide the talking points to help the mentor remember everything.
- Skills that are relevant to a specific subgroup. For example, friends can create a curriculum for secret handshakes. Kids can create a curriculum for hand clapping games. Families can create a curriculum for family traditions, like grand ma's cookie baking, birthday rituals, or family Olympic rules.
What are the benefits over a group class:
- Group classes can teach one thing at one level. That means some people are bored, some are overwhelmed, and some don't care for the content. The learning approach of the app is that the group is broken into pairs. Each pair chooses the learning mission from the app that makes the most sense to them.
- Going to a group class can feel like going to a lot of classes at one level and hoping to one day progress to the next level. The app provides a curriculum and levels that led one see the progress and what is still ahead.
- Always be at your learning edge. Because you are paired with someone to learn, that person can speed up and slow down the learning to fit your needs. Know that already? Skip it. Miss that knowledge even though it's not part of the lesson? Let's talk about it right now.
- Teaching someone else deepens the learning. When you teach someone, you really have to know it and every variation. Maybe, you can cheat your way through something. But if someone else is stuck on it, you really have to put on your thinking hat to figure out how to help them. At the end, you have a much deeper understanding.
How does it work:
1. Pick a learning mission in the app.
2. Find a mentor in the real world.
3. When you've learned it, the mentor graduates you.
4. The next learning mission unlocks.
