I think the app has its good points and bad. First the good its simple to understand and you get a breakdown of all your transactions individually including the charges, Farepay also offer a next working day payment option for an extra 20p per transaction which is ludicrous imo although I'm glad the option is available to me. The next day pay is also very reliable and has always appeard the next working day since i've been using it which has been about 3 months (Note all transactions taken before midnight Monday to Friday will be paid the next working day). It also takes contactless payment which is always nice and the card reader and printer can be removed from taxi after a shift pretty effortlessly which is a bonus for me as i dont like to leave anything in the cab overnight. There is also 24 hour software support which is reassuring although hardware support is only available 9-5 which is understandable. Now for the bad...The card reader it comes with for the passingers to use is Poor at best and utterly crap at worse, there is no back light on the buttons so in low light people find it difficult to see them, the customer interface is laborious and hard to understand although it does give a tip prompt which is nice but i've had forget about tips because customers are not sure which button to press in order to correctly tip. It also looks like a cheap calculator compared to the veriphone or cab vision card readers with their big backlit buttons, colour displays and intuitive interfaces. There's also no ability to print individual receipts so if for some reason a receipt never printed for a particular transaction you cant go back into the app and reprint the receipt or just make one up and print it manually which some competing devices have the option to do. The apps is also generally slow to load up between transactions. Im using a Samsung Galaxy s6 which is a quick smartphone but every time I take a payment I have to wait for the apps initial load up which can take upto 10 seconds, once loaded you have to wait for the app the conncet to the card reader and printer which can take as long as 30 to 40 seconds which feels like an eternity in the back of a taxi when you've got a customer with a train to catch. It would be nice if the devs could find a way to keep it alway connected to your phone once paired in order to speed things up. Overall good first entry into the market from farepay but there are definitely issues that need ironing out like the overall speed of taking payment and the actual card reader itself which is poor in comparison to the competition. Also 3.95% per transaction is a little steep, i'd feel alot more comfortable with 3% especially as im being charged 20p per transaction for next day payment. Lastly no American express payment excepted which i've been assured will be comming soon.
