About CrateraMuseoBurriana

The Greek vase from the necropolis of l'Orleyl is a bell-shaped krater decorated with red figures. Such pieces were in the last period of production, between the fourth and third centuries. C.

The decor can clearly distinguish two scenes: a rampant cock (fantastic animal body half lion and half eagle) attacking a soldier appears on the main image. This, protected by a shield, trying to reach you with an undetermined weapon while on the floor lies another monster fighter who has already defeated and that keeps one of his legs. Just behind this mythological animal shown to another attacker, dressed in the same way as their peers who, after trying to attack protection shield or submit to tap wielding a spear. The reverse is observed three figures with a ceremonial costume that would be singing the deeds narrated in the front scene. This type of vessels, which originally served to contain wine mixed with water, were luxury item for Iberian and burial with a piece of this caliber gave prestige to both the deceased and his family.
