Philadelphia Inquirer Replica for Android
This app has been retired and can no longer be used to access the inquirer. Pity because it worked well. The new web app is terrible. I don't believe it was written for tablet users. You must do a lot of pinching and slow scrolling to read articles. Also ads have been added even though the inquirer is a fee service.
This app is the worst. Requires login each time, very unreliable, can't resize pages, back button doesn't work, user interface makes no sense. Every other news site and newspaper has a usable app. No wonder this once great newspaper is turning to garbage. I'm sure you will do nothing to respond to this concern nor the multitude of other 1 star ratings that users have given.
Can't load paper, sends you to broken link. Web verision of paper is clunky. Too bad it was good when it worked
Slow responsiveness sometimes. Requires sign-in each day. Must restart when temporarily leaving app for another application or my tablet times out. When it restarts, it opens on the first page, not the last page you were reading. Took me maybe 50 percent longer to read the paper than with prior version of the app. Very frustrating.
I had high hopes that the new viewer, Olive Dynamic Newsstand, would solve the problems I experienced with the prior version. Alas, it was not to be so. This one has new features that I would love, if they worked consistently, like swipe to change the page, and pinch/zoom. However, the reader constantly freezes, usually ten or more times just getting through one day's edition. To re-start, I usually have to close and re-open the app, sometimes have to sign in again, and other times must uninstall and reinstall the app. Today even that is not working. After four tries, I give up, and am wondering why I don't just watch the news on tv or get it from Web feeds like everyone else.
Simply does not work. At all. Real shame. Sad m
Terrible to use often can't connect
How unprofessional.
Please the old app was better in every way.
cant view offline issues. randomly resizes pages and turns pages. previous app was much better
Nice
This app is laggy, ignores the back button, resizes pages with no regard for your screen size ...really a mess. Another thing it does: if you go to another app, and return, the app usually needs to be restarted, as there's an all-white screen. It hurts my heart, deep inside.
I loved the older app on my Android. I could download the paper and read it on the train without using data. New version has too many problems: i have to sign in again when it opens, it doesn't download offline on the Android (and when it does on IOS it's a PDF not the dynamic view of before), it freezes after viewing an article and has to be restarted. Please bring back the older version!
Older version was so much better. Suggest readers use Web version, alot less problems than this so called app.
Must sign in each time. Download for offline use does not work. Great potential, terrible execution. More than two years of terrible reviews without any attempt to correct the problems. Shameful.
It often doesn't load or takes long time to load. When power goes off on tablet while in article, it comes back up with a blank screen with the word close at top forcing me to close out of app, go back in and navigate back to same article. Downloading to PDF not working at all and previous method allowed parts already viewed to be seen off line without downloading full paper. More difficult to navigate to sections and see as paper to read full articles than before. now have to log in with account and password daily and app flashes to login screen everytime it is powered back on. Some parts of update are nice but not enough to overcome huge frustration with paper not loading every time I power back on. Running on Samsung Tab S.
Navigation is pretty clunky, although the "Digest" feature is nice for skimming. I love the Inky, but the PressReader app, even with its occasional crashes, provides a better user experience.
This app does not seem to be compatible with Android I'm ready to stop my subscription with the Inquirer because some days I cannot even open the application please inquire fix this app!!!!
No where near the previous version. The developers must never have used it. Cumbersome, not functional, not intuitive. Elegant sometimes is not practical. Help!
Crashes a lot. Requires re-authentication every day. Transition from article view back to replica view very awkward.
On Android 6, navigation is unpredictable and app must be restarted after the screen locks.
Don't give up on The Inquirer. Just delete this app and get it through Press Reader.
More difficult to use with worse instructions
Works very poorly. Crashes, difficulty to navigate.
Best paper in the usa
I want to read the Inquirer very much, but this on line app is terrible. It is inflexible and it provides a poor search engine. When on my smartphone, it often goes to a blank page and makes further use impossible. I have read this paper for over 50 years, but to continue is very discouraging. One cannot come close to the excellent NYTimes on line use. Very frustrating.
Very balky with frequent freezes. Download ability is poor. This version is far worse than its predecessor (which wasn't very good either). Great newspaper, lousy app.
I cannot dismiss the red "close" bar no matter what. It always comes back. Latest update is fundamentally broken. A shame.
Do not bother with this app on Android. If you need a newspaper on your Android device, and you want to be able to access it offline, look elsewhere. PNI is clueless and there do not appear to be any plans to make the app viable on Android. Ipad version works. As for me, I'm likely to cancel my Inquirer subscription altogether at this point, after 6 years of struggling with institutionalized mediocrity going all the way back to their first "tablet" more than 5 years ago.
Harder to use than previous version, dynamic view seems useless. Don't like replica view. If the Inky wants people to read on a digital platform, they need a much better app.
Very buggy, with halting downloads and crashes for no reason.
It never ceases to amaze me how this award winning newspaper can so not get mobile access. This app continues to underwhelm with minimal support, frequent crashes, inability to render text consistently, and only about an 80% reliability at downloading issues.
Besides a very touchy user interface, you must leave your tablet on if want to read a downloaded issue and enter an area without WIFI. USELESS FEATURE
This app can not be moved to SD card on the Galixy Light
When you download the paper for offline use, you only get about the first 20-22 pages for offline viewing. The remaining pages are blank. I reported the problem to the Inquirer 4 times in the last 2 months, but no fix has been forthcoming.
Navigation is pretty clunky, although the "Digest" feature is nice for skimming. I love the Inky, but the PressReader app, even with its occasional crashes, provides a better user experience.
GOOD
It seemed to be less crashy at first, but its been crashing at times now, still a very clumsy, slow app. With the new one, there seems to be no way to automatically download issues for offline. Also, once downloaded, there is no way to delete old issues short of deleting the app data
On this new app you cannot switch between previously downloaded issues when offline and newspaper not automatically delivered. This is regression, not progress.

I hope that they replace this app. I truly fear for the future of the Inky if they don't fix this app. Any growth in readers and subscribers will be in digital access, and with this platform they've shot themselves in the foot. Very unfortunate.
