One You Couch to 5K for Android
I set everything up (or so i thought), then went out to start my run. The coach voices weren't working and the menu option fornit kept prompting me to sign up to their news letter. Then the current workout was in accessible. Gave up in the end, set a timer and just ran. Uninstalled!
Was so excited about having Michael Johnson as my trainer! But ultimately this app is dreadful. As others have mentioned the app does not sync properly with eg Spotify so the sound levels are way off. I cannot hear Michael above the music. Needs fixing asap. For now I'll have to go back to 'Laura'.
Brilliant idea and has got me off the couch! Thanks. However it lets you play music through the app, but doesn't pause when the voice gives instructions (they are too quiet to hear over music). Has also reset twice while trying to adjust settings -all progress lost. No social media sharing of progress or way to link with friends.
I like the app and have been using it although I can't get it to switch days in the week so on week 1, day 2 it over wrote my progress on day 1 and said I needed to complete it another twice! Can't get day 2/3 of the weeks to run so it looks like they are incomplete. It's a bit discouraging and annoying. Will just keep doing day 1 of each of the weeks as they are the same.
This could be a great app, really simple & encouraging words for a complete beginner to running, but when played with Spotify playlist I can't hear the voice. Tried playing music through the app but the same thing happened. I found this really frustrating & ended up tuning the music off - not very motivating running without music. I will be uninstalling this & looking for a different app.
It just doesn't save your active days. Soul destroying when you've been for a run and it says you haven't! So then it won't go on to the next week! Will have to try another app.
Downloaded this twice because I thought something was wrong with first app. You cannot play music because you cannot hear the coach. Start running and it closes down. Twice I've been to the park with good intent. This is a seriously flawed app.
I love this app, it's really inspiring me to get back into running. There seems to be a few bugs on it though which I see other people are having. Interrupted audio so you never know when it's time to run or walk (last time I ran it was when to stop!). Would be great if you could alter the settings more. For eaxmple, when your run week starts. I started on a Monday and finished on a Sunday but the Sunday run overwrote Monday's stats.
Would of liked some Music in between Commands, little bit of eye of the Tiger wouldn't have gone a miss! Would of liked all speakers to have been pro athletes! Found it quite hard when it's supposed to be for people who have never ran.
Was excited to see this new app. But ultimately disappointed that i just cannot use it because I can't hear the trainer speak. The last official c25k app was buggy so I had high hopes for this. Hopefully this will be fixed.
Love the C25K. On week 3 and at 24 stone it's perfectly achievable. Major frustration is the volume of the music vs the volume of the trainer. If i turn down the music to a comfortable level, i can barely hear the trainer when she butts in.
Using it for the first few times I have already lost my progress 3 times. Too easy to press the back arrow whilst the app is active, which wouldn't be a problem if it didn't delete your progress! No way to fast forward either. Also app does not tell you when you are half way through, kind of a basic omission for a running trainer.
Menus confusing, buttons don't work, UX/UI absolutely terrible. Can't pause or fast forward as accidentally managed to close my Session. Also can play music over it but music won't dim when voice kicks in so can't hear it.
Good concept poorly executed. During the first week of the programme, the app failed to move to the correct training day which made it seem as though the full training had not been completed. Then during the second week the app just crashed mid-run and would not move back to the correct point once the app had been manually restarted. This would be extremely demotivating for anyone new to running.
Love the app but when I try to play music through it a message comes up saying music starts after commentary but doesn't start. If played from my library, there is no sound from the app. I have a Sony z3 compact version 6.0.1. VERY disappointing. Had to buy another app
Closes during run when I tried to go into the settings to see why music wasn't working. Connects to Spotify but doesn't let it play. Voices are too quiet. Waste of time but had the potential to be so good! Disappointing.
I had the older version of this (the NHS live well couch 2 5k) but changed to this version. Tried playing music but couldn't hear when to run or walk. Ended up running with no music- not very fun or motivating!!
Agree with others on the sound. Voice and music levels aren't in sync like they were on the old app so either the music or voice are too quiet. Also become a lot more complicated than old app, not sure new features are necessary. However, all that said, it's a great way to get running. Easy progression and gets you to your goal!
Opened the "Track your days"pane to get started and it was actually impossible to select the all-important checkboxes, since the app was coded so badly. Bad implementation is also revealed by the unnecessary delays between panes. Suggests something is very wrong in the design process for this very important app, and a huge missed opportunity as the 'endpoints' for a campaign which has reached 1 million people.
Downloaded this as it was BBC supported. Liked the clear instructions and trainer BUT I paused it during the run and must have knocked a button because I lost the progress I had made so far and couldn't see how to retrieve it. It did this twice so I am uninstalling it. It would also have been helpful to know at the start how many 1 min runs I had to do so I could have at least completed it at the time.
Liked Jo whiley voice, however not compatable with music player as unable to hear trainer, and didn't know when to walk or run. The app before this one from change for life was much more friendly and gave encouragement. I have android 5.0.2, and your previous replays have indicated not compatitble with different android version . Uninstalling it .
Love the verbal prompts telling me when to run and when to walk. It syncs perfectly with the actual timer on screen. I also appreciate the encouragement the app gives you; I thought it was silly at first but found myself smiling at the support.
Organised app. Good talk overs and options for different trainers but I have completed 3 runs this week for week 1 and it has only logged one of them and is now not allowing me to move to week two. So its a bit pointless. It doesnt allow uoi to tick that you have a done a run either so there is no way around the error.
I loved the old (nhs change4life) version of this app i bought a new phone and switched to this one. It's really awkward to get play music on and once you have got the music player working there is a long gap each time it switches between the trainers voice and the music. Worst of all the app just stops working and closes itself while the music carries on playing. So you are waiting for the instruction and none comes, rendering it pretty useless.
I used the previous version of this app and it was great. This version is useless - randomly resets and you have to start again. You can't hear the coach when Spotify is playing. Bring back the old version, it was much better than this!!
Agree with everything other reviewers have said. Was forced to switch after the original couch to 5k stopped working on my phone, assume it's no longer supported. Can't hear the trainer over Spotify and I hate the interface to pick the days for each run, doesn't make sense. What was wrong with the old version?! Will have to uninstall and find something else, really disappointed.
The Couch to 5k programme is fantastic. The stepped increase in the duration of the running periods really works well. The app on the other hand is frustrating to use: picking an active day is fiddly, and it always defaults back to week 1, rather than my last workout; if I try to play music between commentary clips, it tells me that the music will start playing after the commentary, but instead plays during. That said, I'll forgive the frustration because it effective. And you can't beat price.
App stops working when ur phones screen locks. Would have been running for ever like forest gump and to no music as that doesn't work with the app either. Very disappointed
The app cuts the music but then takes a few seconds to play the recorded message, which was sometimes out of time with the timer and then sometimes part of the message such as "go" is missing. This lead to some confusion and destroyed my concentration as I kept having to check my phone. There are also so many intervals it gets a bit dull. Will be changing apps, the NHS C25k was better but ? Replaced by this one...
The time between trainer and the music is way too long. It takes too much time to kick in. There have been several instances where it repeats itself so you find you are walking for double the amount of time as the running prompt has not kicked in again. The overall idea is great but it has flaws that are very frustrating.
Please return this application to the way it was 18 months ago. The original app was called NHS C25k, & featured a runner called Laura whose voice was very convincing and certainly helped both my girlfriend & I with getting through the program. The interface was much better & visual when the phone was placed on the threadmill. There was full interaction with my music playlist. The audio ducking worked perfectly before. Why oh why do software developers insist on spoiling graphical interfaces of applications? Compared to how the previous app performed, this app deserves negative star rating. I have had to use this new app because I've upgraded my phone so sadly cannot find the original app on Google Play. Come on NHS you didn't need to employ celebrities to vocalise this app. Laura did a splendid job the 1st time round.
Just an overall bad interface. Very difficult to set the right day for active or rest. Such a shame as it's a great idea that's been hobbled by poor programming.
Loved the original app with Laura. The prompts were calm and timely, audio ducking worked with Spotify, and a nicer interface. The new app is problematic, confusing to navigate and operate, and buggy, with audio cut outs, timing issues with prompts coming late or cutting off. Not to mention being really fake. PLEASE make the original version live again, #BringBackLaura Also, developers email address bounces too. How can the devs fix it, without being able to contact them?
Overly complicated format. Kept asking me to log in when I already had. Most irritating was that while running it would not give the prompt to switch between running and walking. Unless you want to carry your phone in full view while running and risk being mugged I'd skip this and find something better.
I completed the third day (so week 1 day 5) but the stupid thing doesn't believe me. Now every time I switch it on again it tells me I'm starting week 1 day 3 even though I did that two days ago and have since also completed day 5. You should be able to tell it you've completed the days, but it doesn't matter what you press, it won't register anything. What exactly is the point of it, it's completely useless as a record of your training if you can't tell it what you've done :(
The content is fine - but I just can't hear any instructions if I've got music on. Nothing at all. Family are using the older couch to 5k app on Apple devices and the music is faded when the instructions are spoken. I've had to use this without music, but even then, some of the instructions are clipped and it seems the app has crashed. So this in comparison to the previous version is poor - and I understand that had problems. Not what I'd expect from a reputable source.
Truly a piece of gosa. The interface is clunky, unintuitive, and full of unnecessary additional goodness knows what. The music controls don't work with Spotify despite the option to link them and the volume is far too quiet to hear the instructions is a library let a lone a busy city street with music playing as well.
Possibly the worst app. Continuously skipped and couldn't hear the trainer over my music so was pretty much running in silence. Well done NHS.
Needs work. Previously used the old Laura podcasts which were great but the music was...questionable. Tried the older app but that bugged out on a regular basis so gave up on that. Thought I'd give this a go but the integration with spotify is non-existent. Really great concept but really poorly executed. It doesn't look as though the app has had an update for a while. I'm hoping these comments are being reviewed because the NHS C25K is brilliant. Please look at the GUI and just replicate the old podcasts with the ability to stream your own music

I was using the older version of this app and have switched across, far too quiet so I can't really play music, closes and have to restart if you try and check the settings and fast forward doesnt work so you have to repeat everything before it closed. Not happy. I have just seen something saying that it might work better with library music so will try that but the livewell app reduced the sound of Spotify happily.
