About WritePad

WritePad's is an advanced text input app which aims to replace the on-screen keyboard with PhatWare's proven multilingual handwriting recognition technology and can be used for text input in any app. WritePad supports most Android Smartphones and Tablets and is especially useful on pen-enabled Tablets, but also works well when writing with a finger.

WritePad features state-of-the-art handwriting recognition technology which supports practically any handwriting style, including cursive (script), print, and mixed. The software analyzes pen strokes written in the designated WritePad area, then converts those pen strokes into text and sends the recognized text to the target application. While other handwriting recognition apps leave users frustrated with the app’s inability to correctly interpret their handwriting, adapts and learns the user’s style of writing.

Using WritePad children can practice writing in print or cursive and use the built-in calculator for homework.

Key WritePad features:
- Advanced multilingual handwriting recognition engine supports 12 languages, including Danish, Dutch, English (UK and US), Finnish, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Swedish, and Spanish.
- Integration with any application allowing text input, such as email, SMS, notes, word processing, and others.
- Customizable auto-corrector, which automatically fixes common spelling and recognition errors and learns user’s own handwriting style.
- Editable user dictionary to improve recognition of custom words and names not included in the main dictionary.
- Built-in full keyboard with autocomplete; if needed, users can switch between keyboard and handwriting with a single touch of a button.
- Built-in calculator, enabling users to write simple equations such as "22.3+15.66=" and WritePad will calculate the result.
- Letter shape selector allows users to further improve recognition quality by disabling unused letter shapes.

The app doesn't learn from the your writing style and Phatware do not provide any product support. Very poor. Take the money and run seems to be their business model.

After multiple attempts to work with the app, still doesn't work. Cannot recognize simple and common letters, such as the letter "t". Not worth the money, I would get a resume if I could.

It doesn't learn your hand writing like it claims constantly having to rewrite everything....and now it won't even work. Wish i could just get a refund.

I don't know why this app has gotten so many bad reviews . It is the best I tried or found so far. Its not better the Samsung recognition on my S3. But it is good enough for my Asus tablet .

Based on the reviews I wasn't Expecting much. Performs a lot better than I thought it would. Only misses a letter here and there. using it on a Galaxy Note 2 with an Spen.

Q70%
by Q####:

Terrible. It's not accurate at all and refused to "learn" how I write. Also there is no option to just take notes. I don't want to handwrite email addresses I want to be able to scratch something out to be converted to text.

This still isn't up to par with competition. No palm rejection if using with stylus (on Note series products). Also can't make the writing area smaller or larger depending on your preference. Recognition is okay with finger and not great with stylus. I do enjoy the "Shorthand" options! wish I could use the App more, just too frustrating for now!

What a day ! Reviewers were right about the need to get settings right. Dang thing was on separate word only! Much better when script is enabled. Still a little funky. Getting better over time. Seems to handle mixed mode fairly well. You do need a decent processor to keep up with script. My note 1 barely holds on which is typical; for many apps clogging my little processor. Most noticeable when ink skips on first letter causing hilarious distortions. Still not up to performance on Windows Mobile devices 5

I have used this program now for a year and it is brilliant, at least on a Nexus 7. It provides rather good accuracy and has improved over time at identifying my cursive. I have noticed that it works better with some programs than others but over time it has gotten better. It is my keyboard interface of choice. Addendum: I've noticed recently the writing cursive X when part of a word is problematic. MyScript had the same problem but have rectified this within a few weeks of my comment.

Just unbelievable. With so many other apps doing this easily how can this app be so bad. Recognition is beyond poor. Don't purchase

Came here looking to replace Graffiti which no longer works on the new higher res screens. This pretty much always fails. I've been at it for a week and wasted 10 bucks looking for a handwriting recognition app which at that price point must work, right ? wrong. This really wastes huge amounts of my time trying to correct what is comes up with. Writing larger helps with its accuracy but means you will never fit even a moderately sized word on one line. The middle line like used on your kindergarten writing paper should be a huge help too, right ? wrong. It just confuses things. The engineer in me said this would work but I was wrong. I think the lack of a time limited intro app here says it all because if I had a week to play with this before buying I'd never purchase this junk. Total FAIL. I want my 10 bucks back.

For sure, there is a chance for many people to misunderstand this great software. at first look. I don't blame those who gave -ve comment here. I too felt like that at first. After all the customization, it turned out to be the best, suited to my all needs and style, except two things. 1) My great language, one of the oldest languages of Asia, spoken by 10 crores of people is not included in the languages list. Please please please add it. 2)And sometimes I use some other boards like Swift keyboard. So please include a input board switcher button to shift to other boards and toggle option to come again to the great Write pad.

I have noticed that it works better with some programs than others but over time it has gotten better. It is my keyboard interface of choice. Addendum: I should also say that with the second generation Nexus 7, this program was much better than the first generation Nexus 7 (where I had rated it three stars) and on a no brand tablet from Bangkok it didn't work effectively, so I conclude that this program is better and improves with additional RAM based upon my user experience. I would think modern tablets today are well equipped to take advantage of this software.

The lack of a vertical pipe | instead of this ¦ and a quotation mark key that gives " instead of apostrophes ' would be nice. The apostrophe key produces ' as expected, for reference.

This app sucks. I tried to teach it for over an hour and it still doesn't recognize most of my inputs. I started using the stock Samsung writing function on the keyboard and it works way better. Waste of ten dollars. :[

I was wondering how it got 3 stars but I may have an idea. People at the company are probably writing in fake reviews. I went by the video to make my buying decision which they knew they had to make look fantastic. Seeing so many of the other reviewers write about the same issues I had so I know it isn't my fault. Going to try Mazec next seeing as how many on here like that better. Oh well, $10 isn't the end of the world. Just hope it's the end of this company soon. Hate it for the employees.

Your like wow, this sucks, but maybe it will get better. Then as you think it's getting better it just goes down the drain and inevitably they end up keeping your money before you give up and attempt a refund. This app defines why 15 minutes is not enough time to try a "learning" app. My best guess you must have pristine handwriting for this app to even slightly work. I also had 2 different styli that both work great, cursive or not it just can't figure it out. If I could give it zero stars I would due to the price and how worthless it is.

I flew to Bangkok last summer and purchased on of those super cheap seven inch tablets with no brandname and tried this with several pens and it just didnt work. I upgraded to a Nexus 7 and gave it another try and loved the program. Apparently it requires some horsepower to function, but I liked it so much I use this as my primary interface instead of that much lauded Swift Keyboard. I find it is great if I want to add OCR translated text to cursive handwriting program notes such as Handrite note Notepad Pro and for entering text only notes such as Groovy Notes. I think on some programs it works better and I note that the longer I use it for instance on a new note program, it gets better with time. The type of stylus (I have two) may make a difference based upon the device you use. I have had better results with a a Puro stylus versus an iLuv stylus (brands purchased in Sweden) for instance. I consider this program essential for my productivity and documentation. If the OCR gets your word wrong you can tap the wrong word and it will give you alternates. As you use it, the text gets better and it goes quite fast to type once trained past a basic point on a programLove it!

Firstly 15 minutes isn't long enough to test this apps because it takes a little setting up and by then its too late for a refund. The handwriting recognition isn't good enough and isn't fast enough, especially if you compare it to a hybrid laptop, MS Surface or iPad and I was testing it on a Nexus 7 2nd (2013). This is a real shame because I had high hopes for this application. At the moment it gets 1 star however improve the handwriting recognition and speed performance I would use and also update my review.

Inaccurate recognition program. Writing as if you were writing on paper, this is not. If they let people try before buying, they would get fewer angry reviews. Not only do you lose money, you also lose time learning this.
