About Atheos

The goal is to help people become more thoughtful and more reflective about their faith-based beliefs.
—Peter Boghossian

Can you support your positions about God, religion or the supernatural?

Atheos is an app being developed by Dr. Peter Boghossian and his team that helps people have non-confrontational discussions about gods, religion, faith, and superstition. It will show you how to gently explore a person's strongest beliefs.

Atheos will provide you with the skills you’ll need to spot flaws in weak statements and use reason to politely help people understand why they may not be correct.

It's the perfect app for atheists, agnostics, humanists, skeptics, freethinkers, and even believers who want to find out how best to engage in religious discussions.

A well produced app which guides one through various discussion topics in a respectful and reflective way. It has certainly made me more aware of the Socratic method and street epistemology within the context of faith and truth. However style of delivery is quite repetitive and once you have completed all the stages in the app there is no real reason to return; Though the addition of reading material and external links are excellent for further learning.

M70%
by M####:

This app is the ideal companion to Dr. Boghossian's book "A manual for creating atheists". It allows you to practice street epistemology from the comfort of your sofa. It helps you prepare for the arguments you may encounter and how to best respond to them. It links to many sources that will help you deepen your understanding. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed the lessons and the way it guide me to look at the big picture. Unfortunately this app is not available where the people are in a vital of it such as Sudan and other religious ones.

Rather than shouting at people when they speak absurd pseudo science, this app will make u more sensitive and reasonable atheist

Y70%
by Y####:

Despite being an atheist myself, the premise of this app is completely insulting of people, their beliefs, and in no way allows for anything beyond Atheistic Dogma and indoctrination. I don't think anyone using this will find any helpful lessons unless their problem is being incapable of not being a jerk to others. The foundation of dealing with people of faith is respecting their beliefs and not attacking them. So far, this app barely teaches that, but does so with a snide undertone. If you want to know how to be an Atheist but be around people of faith, visit a UU congregation. You will learn significantly more.

So useful and not just for the original purpose. Helpful for enhancing your appropriate built-in scepticism.

It's a good app, too bad there are no achievements in, also you need to purchase premium to get to the level 2

hated it. left out many things and was not all factual

This app actually makes atheists more like theism. Plus, it's heavily charged as if being atheist includes a membership fee.

Y70%
by Y####:

Good app, but a $5 paywall for a lot of the content. I'd absolutely be willing to pay 99¢ for this, but $5 is too much for too little.

Simply Brilliant. Teaches people to use empathy and to rise above their ego or emotions

I'm a fan of Boghossian's work (as well as how it's being applied by people like Magnabosco) so I was excited when this app finally became available. However, nowhere are you warned about the paywall after level 1, which is kind of a cheap shot and ironically contradicts the underlying "communication in good faith" philosophy of Boghossian's work. Not sure if I'll pay or just stick to his book at the library and S.E. on YouTube.

I think this sort of mindset needs some cultivating in our atheist crowds. Too often we focus on facts, on being right, on out smarting. This pushed the idea of using the socratic method to help other people walk themselves through the fallacies in their beliefs. It's amazing.

Y70%
by Y####:

Although it appears to be a good app for training logic and dealing with fallacies, the app's pay wall that prevents access to 90% of the content illogically contradicts the app's stated purpose of spreading knowledge and changing the world.

This app is a unique and must-have educational experience. It is a lengthy set of quizzes which are pick-up-and-play ready but also provide plenty of material to reflect and slow down for. It does a wonderful job of teaching the user how to effectively guide and participate in civil discussions. This is fantastic, but what really won me over was when it also supplied me with my new favorite insult: "precontemplative". It sometimes feels like indoctrination itself when the app's guidance focuses lazer-like on guiding your conversation partner toward the predetermined philosophy underlying the "Atheos". I think this is more than made up for by the encouragement to respect and empathize with people of different beliefs. Yes, the quiz answers are subjective and once or twice might have some minor inconsistencies. The way to use this app is not to try to be pedantic about details but to try to understand and appreciate the basic examples of effective communication. UI critique: the top-level menu would be much easier to navigate if it showed the completion of underlying chapters.

If Richard Dawkins has anything to do with it. It must be great. I'm Agnostic and I've read all of his books. He is spot on.

U70%

Anti-religious double-think trash. The basic philosophy of this app is: To be a tolerant atheist you must set about destroying the faith of people you dont know, for no reason other than that you simply hate religion. Im not surprised that Dawkins had something to do with this.

Frustrating how patronizing this app tries to be.

Great app with a great idea. I ended up getting stuck behind a pay wall though. I appreciate all the hard work that went into this app. I wish the developers had mentioned some of it was paid content to continue. Unless I missed something. I'll come back when I've got more money. -cheers

Several questions are repeated multiple times, answers which seem right are counted as wrong with inadequate explanations, and the app advocates what seems like the most submissive possible stance. In addition, the first level of questions are all common sense ones which are rarely actually encountered. It's new, so hopefully they fix these issues soon. Edit: This app is pure garbage. Every other level you must pay for, and all the above problems persist throughout. Don't waste your time with this.
