About PHEM: Palm Hardware Emulator

PHEM (the Palm Hardware Emulator M68k) emulates the hardware of many different models of Palm PDAs. It supports up to Palm OS 4.2 and runs thousands of Palm applications, utilities, games, and hacks.

***IMPORTANT!*** Like other hardware emulators, PHEM requires software in the form of a Palm OS ROM image to run.

Supports:
• Black and white, grayscale, 8-bit, and 16-bit color. It even supports the Handera 330's "High Res" grayscale screen!
• Sound and (for versions of the Palm OS that support it) vibration.
• Multiple different "sessions" emulating different Palms - multiple models, multiple versions of a single model, or both.
• Using your device's storage as a virtual expansion card.
• Network communication using your device's network connection (wifi or cellular), including network HotSync.
• Cutting and pasting text between the emulated Palm and your device.
• Hardware keyboards if present on your device.
• "Skin" files that precisely mimic the appearance of particular Palm devices.
• Most Palm "Hacks".

PHEM is based on the Palm OS Emulator, a development and debugging tool originally created by Greg Hewgill and later developed by Palm, Inc. Full source is available under the GNU Public License.

Notes on permissions used:
• "Access Fine Location" is used to pass GPS information to the emulated Palm, only when explicitly activated by the user.
• Network access is used to allow the emulated Palm to access network resources.
• Storage access is used to access ROMs, applications, and to emulate memory cards.

glitche occured once in a long while. re-install would fix issues. for example, the date book app cycled all views non-stop.

CRAP. DON'T BUY. I spent many, many hours trying to get a ROM file in order for this crap to work. I tried all the tutorials and advice. Nothing! You are told to get the Rom from your old palm. I tried that by following all the tutorials. Nothing! In the end I never found a Rom file to make this work. So that means that the people who made this app are thieves. They know that people will never get this to work without being able to get the Rom image file but it's a way for them to make a quick thieving buck. Shame!

Runs fast and has accepted every old Palm program that I've tried. Took me a while to find a suitable ROM but they are out there.

Fix the bugs so it will stop crashing so much I have to restart everything it suck by the way don't pay any attention to this review because none of the other Dev's do anything about their apps why should you

I have numerous Palm devices and this is a great way to extend their lives. Easy to install apps and skins - job well done, Perpendox!

I wrote APCALC over 10 years ago. When the Palm died, so did my program. But this emulator brought it to the android. AND it's far faster now, than when on Palm.

K70%

Very accurate, useful for debugging palm apps. Seems to run a bit faster than native for me, would love an option to lock the emulation speed (not just screen refresh rate)

Z70%

It runs apps faster or slower than nornal.i recommend it however as its good value for money

Android and PalmOS meet and the feeling is truly nostalgia crossed with bliss.

Runs very well, considering the large number of variables involved in matching different pieces of Palm and Android hardware. If you run into problems, trial and error may reveal the best combination of ROM and Palm OS for your devices (so, for example, I found that a Palm m130 ROM with OS 4.1 was very buggy on my Nexus 7, but a Palm m505 ROM with OS 4.0 works like a charm). Very intelligently implemented for Android users. Love the ability to use either Graffitti or the Android keyboard. Also love the ability to save different emulation sessions, so I don't have to keep reloading apps and data each time. Great value for a negligible price. Thanks, you've made this old Palm user very happy!

Apparently I would have to find and purchase a s**t load of obsolete hardware and/or adapters in order to get a palm rom onto my note 4 before I could even try this app. Well...that's not happening.

It runs way to fast to do anything with it. Tried to contact the company to see if it could be slowed down. Never returned any of my emails.

I loved palm. Thank you for the great app. However, I am having problems with phones with physical keyboard. ( NEC Terrain+ Moto ProPlus) For both, numbers and Cap keys did not work. With Nexus5 it was beautifully worked. Are there any work around ?

For anybody having trouble finding a rom, just add ".rom" in your google search after the model name you are looking for. The m130 rom is working good on my s3mini. The only issues I am having is when I go to swipe up/right to delete a task, the bar appears, then disapears. Not a big deal though. This will be perfect when the Sony rom gets supported. Thanks for a great app.

I still miss the Palm days, but this is an excellent fix. Many will find this to be a fun app, but it has finally allowed me to run Ultrasoft Money on Android. I still use Microsoft Money, and the fact that I can hotsync wirelessly means that I can sync updates both directions. There won't be many people that have this ability as Ultrasoft is gone, but other apps will enable a bit of added usability. Excellent job by the developer. Hoping for Clie firmware to be completed for color 320x320!!

It's nice, it just has some pretty heavy stability issues.

M70%
by M####:

My only complaint, but not sure it can be solved is to have the battery indicator in PalmOS reflect the battery of the host Android device. This will lead to a more "immersive" experience.

Can anyone suggest the most stable ROM, OS combination, that supports card emulation for samsung s5? Am using Palm M505 with OS 4.0 but it freezes if I write at times , and when there was a 'stack' problem and had to do soft reset, lost my card emulation! Someone suggested that OS 3.5 was more stable, but this will not support card emulation Sorry given up on this app crashes to often for serious use

The phone was unable to receive or to make call in real time (10ish seconds delay) after PHEM was installed. The phone also had suffered long delay while power up. DELL Venue has no such issues.

I took the chance and bought it hoping that IR was supported. Maybe it's just my rom but don't waste your money if your looking to use IR

Supports PalmOS 4.0 (including HotSync, even over the Internet) via ROMs (which you must obtain elsewhere)! However, that does limit you to no Web browsing (since 4.0 only supported Web browsing via proxy services that are no longer available) and no color high resolution screens. If you can live with those limits, it's a great system. Developed from the Palm POSE emulator that PalmOS developers used to test their software during development.
