About Discogs Scan

IMPORTANT: this app is not created by Discogs.com, nor is it maintained by Discogs.com. This is a third-party effort and any support requests should go through the apps website, not Discogs.com.

Have a huge collection, but no idea what's in there? Organize it on Discogs.com.

Discogs Scan is an app that allows you to quickly scan the barcodes of all the CDs and records in your collection. It can then upload that collection to your Discogs.com account.

Even if you only want to add 10 items, it will save you time.

For true speed: use the "endless" mode, available from the preferences screen. Use the back button to quit scanning in that mode.

You can pick your own barcode scanner. We suggest either Barcode Scanner for simplicity or Google Goggles if you need the flash for low-light situations. Both are freely available in the Play store.

This is not pre-installed, so you may need to download that first.

You can manually enter the barcode if, for some reason, it isn't possible to scan it.

If the barcode for a release is not found on the Discogs.com site, you can manually search for that release through an easy interface.

This app is free to download and use but is ad supported.

Doesn't authenticate with my Discogs account. My account shows its authebticated, but the app doesn't recognize it. Using a Google pixel. Disappointed.

C70%
by C####:

As long as your vinyl has barcodes. They were invented mid 80s. First record I have with one is Brothers in Arms.

B70%

For all those looking for the menu button it's the bottom left one on your phone. Then just click "upload". app is adding loads of the same item but not sure if it's missing loads of stuff out and not uploading.

C70%
by C####:

It scans c.d.s. Fine but it manages to identify only a small percentage of the c.d.s. Scanned.

C70%
by C####:

Excellent app! I need to catalogue over 300 vinyl records for sale on Discogs and this app is going to save me a lot of time.

Would not authenticate with my Discog account on my Pixel. Successful scans ....0

Thanks to Chris Ellison for the Camera Permissions tip! This app works well but for two things. When you do an upload, make sure to clear the current items from the phone otherwise they'll just be duplicated when you next Upload (i.e. the app doesn't skip previously uploaded items). Also, after an upload the app will confirm how many were uploaded, and how many were skipped...but with no clues as to why, or which, items were skipped. This last point is a significant issue, for completists like me.

Can't scan anything

If you are on Android marshmallow you will need to go to system settings and find app permissions and enable this app for the camera. Should work fine after that

N70%

Scan function dose not work with Nexus 5x

N70%

Doesn't communicate with camera on Nexus 5 marshmallow, latest camera update.

Scanned some stuff. Now I just have a list in the app with the only other clickable option being "remove" how do i actually get this into discogs.

There is no way to actually add the scanned records to your collection. Kinda defeats the purpose, really. Lots of potential but a way off from being useful.

G70%
by G####:

The scanning function works great but it doesn't seem to upload scanned CDs to Discogs itself, which pretty much defeats the point of the app! My profile is definately linked, but upon logging onto my PC to check my Discogs collection it's empty. Also, I can't access the preferences/settings on HTC One.

It crashes and you lose your entire list. 3 times I've tried, i scanned about 50 disks then it crashes, open it back up and everything is goooorne. Very annoying and time wasting, uninstalled

N70%

Wont even open. Wish I could use this app.

Not the prettiest UI & I wish it had features to manage your collection, but it works fine for adding your physical music to your Discogs account (especially in bulk).

N70%

It scans c.d.s. Fine but it manages to identify only a small percentage of the c.d.s. Scanned.

I touched everything but the escape button and still no track list. It only display artist and album title as well as album art covers. I want to know each and every song listed on the CD. In the photo this is shown. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong or something. Good concept though.

X70%
by X####:

works as designed. Wish UI was better. Other then that, great

X70%
by X####:

Finds the album alright, but there's no way to add it to your Discogs collection, no button or anything. It talks about a menu button that isn't there either.

X70%
by X####:

No way of accessing discogs. All I get is the scan page, which mentions a "menu" button that is nowhere to be found. Driving me insane. Samsung Galaxy S5.

X70%
by X####:

App keeps crashing after scanning and clears what was just scanned so you need to start over or upload after each scan. Very time consuming. Would be nice to save scanned items into a cache with frequent uploads to the server. 50% success rate of identifying a barcode, that would be 4 of 8 that were successfully scanned. Gave up after four crashes within 5 minutes. Samsung S5.

X70%
by X####:

In spite of its limited number of features it crashes often. With the frequent crashing and losing uncommitted entries it's not really a time saver. Entering the bar codes manually on Discogs is faster and less frustrating in the long run.

It's cumbersome to use and doesn't find a lot of the media. I found another application that seems to work better but costs a little money, Media Tracker if it helps anyone else.

R70%

Decent enough if you've got a huge collection of releases that all have barcodes and are in discogs' database, but if you've got a large collection of underground or independent releases, you must add them all manually. Furthermore, cmon discogs, get your act together! You couldn't find the barcode for Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers- A Night In Tunisia?! Lame!

This app has a great idea that's missing from any other Discogs app- batch scanning. Cataloging my collection in discogs takes forever, and this helps a bit. The problem is, it's not easy to use, has a very bad user experience, causes my phone to reboot every once in a while, and only about half of the scans are identified (not the app's fault, I think). But it's still the best app for it. Maybe we can collaborate and improve it.

Z70%

Great idea. User interface could be more intuitive. But as far as I know, it's the only one of its kind.

Y70%

My perfect vinyl collection catalogue app still is a mear pipe dream. If they could join this to discography I would be exstatic. You can scan items and add to your collection. But you can't search for an item via catalogue number , artist or title etc.. or browse discogs and add. You can do all that on discography but u can't add it to your online discogs collection. Aaaarrrggghhh

J70%

I downloaded this and the Barcode Scanner recommended and created an account. Out of the first 15 CDs that I scanned, seven of them were rejected as "Unknown". A fifty percent fail rate is ridiculous and makes it not worth using.
