About Sid's Science Fair by PBS KIDS

**Parents' Choice - Silver Award Winner**

Fun science games for kids ages 3 to 6.

Sid’s Science Fair engages children in experiential learning with core science and math concepts from classification and identifying patterns to charting and sequencing. Emcee’d by Sid, from the hit series SID THE SCIENCE KID, the app is specially crafted for your curious early learner(s) and is optimized for a tablet experience. [It may not work on all small devices]:

GABRIELA’S “COLLECTION INSPECTION”
Use your interactive magnifying glass to discover fascinating patterns among a wide variety of objects, from butterflies and buttons to keys and coins. Gabriela has fourteen different collections to inspect—and different patterns every time—so this game offers many hours of repeat play!

MAY’S “CHART IT!”
Think statistics are boring? No, no, no. Not with May and her awesome “Chart It!” game. Players organize her miniature stuffed animals, balloon creatures, origami, silly faces, and other cool stuff on a chart by observing shared traits. These traits can include color, shape, orientation, and more. May has seven different collections, each of which has ten items and three charts.

GERALD’S “TIME MACHINE”
Get ready to travel through time! Or, rather, to make Gerald’s amazing pictures travel through time… First, choose from among his fourteen picture collections. Then order the pictures into a sequence, such as a snowman melting, candles burning down, a flower growing, or an apple being eaten. Once your sequence is in order (forwards or backwards in time both work!), you can swipe back and forth or tilt your device left or right to watch the time machine in action. But beware! Time machines can have unexpected results…

The touch was an inch up and to the left of the graphics. It made play very difficult and some options off the page and impossible. Otherwise my 3 y/o loved it.

The application does not work properly. For instance the charting game shows the rows with the colors in the first column but the items that need to placed on the chart are not visible. I am unable to scroll my screen to view the items that need to be placed on the chart. The sequencing game with Gerald allows the ordering of the items to occur but does not acknowledge that the items are in the correct sequence. This was frustrating. I uninstalled this app from my daughter's tablet. I hope that this issue can be rectified in the next update of this application.

M70%
by M####:

Graphics are delayed and out of sync with audio. This should not be happening on a nexus 7. Also the magnifying glass " hunt and match" UI is so picky, getting it to register a match is very frustrating. Look forward to an update to make this usable.

Had this on my iPhone and it was a great app. Didn't even bother to look at reviews because we loved it on the iPhone so much I stupidly assumed it would be equally as great. It does not work past the intro. I hope it gets updated, because it really is a terrific app when it works.

I was so excited to see that the PBS apps fiinally moved to Android. Purchased this and one other and have problems using this app. Intro plays through but touch screen does not respond. Haven't been able to play the game. Hoping for an update soon.

by W####:

My 3.5 year old likes this app, but gets really frustrated trying to us the magnifying glass. You have to be dead on to get it to register, and I mean dead on. Then you have to let go just as you get dead on the spot before it will register. I think a little more leeway would be useful in that activity. This app does not work on my phone, but works on my Asus Transformer tablet. However, it spills over outside the screen area just a little, so the back button is difficult to get to. Otherwise, it is a great educational app.

M70%
by M####:

why would you even have this game are here... a disappointment for my 2 year old son that loves Sid the Science Kid...you should be ashamed of yourself whoever made this... should have listened to the other reviews....thought maybe it would be updated by now since the last review was in January....what a shame!!!:(
