ParkRTC for Android
Paying to park in Reston is bad enough, doing it through this app is horrible. Not intuitive and gives every incentive to not go to Reston and to make sure every visit is less than 15 minutes long. I feel very sorry for the merchants at RTC who are at the mercy of the landlord. Used to be my favorite place to shop. Now avoided anyway I can.
This app is bad...really bad. I would like to meet the app developers that made this and ask them why? It's not like they didn't have any other parking apps that work well that they could copy off of...
An absolute nightmare to use, not intuitive, not simple. Boston Properties claim to be groundbreaking and original with this app but it falls short of others like Parkmobile. Save yourself the headache and shop elseware where the parking is free or they use a traditional parking app/company.
If you're new to RTC, this app isn't very user friendly. Maybe spell out the directions a little better? I'm pretty savvy and still had an issue with using it. It also sucks that every time I have to go to the gym I'm going to have to stand in a line of people to get a validation code. Poor planning, poor execution. Almost like people who've been counting money too long came up with the idea.
Very confusing and cumbersome app. Putting my license plate and credit card information into a free app just to grab lunch is ridiculous. Pay2park at RTC is an awful idea overall. It's too expensive to even visit the movie theater there. Paying $20+ (movie + parking) makes no sense when you have Fairfax Town Center and Worldgate down the street. Love the idea of the metro coming into RTC but there must be a better way. Has you wonder who's pockets are getting filled by this Pay2park fiasco? FYI, its a private company.
Sucks that we have to pay for parking, and it sucks even more that they didn't even use 1 system for the machines in the parking lots and the cellular application. My parents aren't the most tech savvy people so explaining to them how to use both systems along with the validation has been very difficult.
I would give it minus stars if I could. I'm done RTC. Tried to use validation codes, I had 2, still got charged, now have to fight for a refund. I'LL TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!
No reason to visit Reston town center anymore. That said, the app sucks, if I need to pay for parking, just give me a ticket and let me pay it. It took me 30 minutes to get the app set up to park
Anyone in the market for a 2 bedroom condo 3 blocks from RTC? I'm not going to live in a place where I have to pay $3 to go to my bank 3 blocks away, this is going to ruin real estate prices here and stop visitors from coming to spend money. Life barrier, terrible, so sad!
Boston Properties should be ashamed. RTC was so nice to visit, now it's a ghost town. You've got to change this. And your app asks for more permission than root. Who thought that would be a good idea?
Shouldn't have to pay to park in Reston, but this app is ridiculous. They should have modeled the app around how it is in DC and drop hourly rates. Expand time stay options to functions of 15 minutes. No need for the permissions , but if you aren't an Apple supporter Android can block the perms.
As someone coming here from DC, this is a major pain. Why should I have to download an app and put in all my info just to park. I'll never be coming here again. Nice job on that one.
A dedicated app to park in one place? Worst idea I've ever seen. At least ParkNow can be used all over MD. Terrible.
My up with friends for dinner last night and was had no choice but to use your app for parking of I wanted to validate. The "pay stations" evidently don't exist. Wandered all over the (red) garage looking for one, but the wasn't any. Just signs for the app and web site.
Probably not the app's fault, but why do I have to pay in one hour increments? A better option would be in 15 minute increments. App is easy enough to use. Now that you have to pay to park, there's always parking available or at least I can see # of empty spots. Now I don't mind coming to the RTC during the day, where I am not spending 15 minutes or more trying to find a spot.
I can't believe how stupid this model is. Get ticket pay at kiosk, so easy... how can you screw this up so bad. Won't be back to WOB. Happily deleted after my final trip to WOB. :(
Although it is technically well functional it hurts the businesses in RTC area and makes me pay before I get a chance to obtain my validation. I think you guys are bad people for doing this.
The worst app ever. Couldn't possibly be any worse it doesn't connect it slow takes a long time to load. why would they do this when they could just place a machine next to the spot. Why are they charging anyway. Something that should have taken me 5 minutes to 25 minutes using this app I could have driven to another town and got a done quicker than figuring out the parking with this terrible app.
Why do they need all that info? To market to me. I'm never using this again. I'll park somewhere else, RTC! Better yet, I'll GO somewhere else.
Got invited to Reston Town Center for lunch. Arrived to find they'd implemented paid parking via app. This app. This garbage app. This app that wants a ridiculous number of unjustified and unjustifiable permissions. My party was waiting for me, so didn't have much choice about installing it. Paying for parking isn't horrendous - even if I'm paying for the opportunity to spend further money shopping and/or dining. What is horrendous is having to install yet another app just to park in ONE area. There's other, more portable, less permission-grabby apps out there: why did RTC feel the need to roll their own? *This app* is why today will be the last time I go to RTC.
Even though this whole policy comes across as a cash grab, I can come to terms with the parking fees (though the company is horribly unfair to the tenants over this) but this app and the implementation is so, so bad. Nothing is intuitive or done in a way that shows any thought or consideration to the actual users. Functions don't work, nothing is user friendly. This app feels like a half finished beta test of a first draft.
App sorta worked but the tiered pricing is awful minimum is 1 hour i tried twice both times i was in and out in under 15 min and that was during the lunch hour. Adding extra cost to an already expensive area.
Incredibly annoying to need an app to pay for parking in the first place and then it didnt work for basic functionality to extend time. Terrible.
To have to pay for parking at a shopping center is absurd. If the concern is commuters, then at least give 2 or 3 hours as free parking. Oh, and the app itself also sucks. Too bad I'll avoid coming RTC.
Paid parking in RTC is absolutely ridiculous to begin with, but this app is horrible. It's not user friendly and there is no reason a PARKING app needs all of these permissions, it's just data mining our phones. Unacceptable.
I'm addressing more than just the app with this review, but, since the parking at the Reston Town Center and this dedicated app are inextricably linked, I have no problem with that. 1) as a resident of the Town Center, the fact that there isn't at least a two hour Grace period of free parking, if I need to stop at CVS on my way home, as I do today, there's no way to avoid using it or risk a ticket. 2) this whole scheme is onerous in the extreme, not to mention invasive and time consuming. 3) the app is clunky, and that isn't helped in any way by the multiple "zones" and "choices" available to park and/or get validation for. In short, I resent this intrusion into my privacy and my time. FIX THIS!
Download app and setup to pay $2 to park for five minutes. Will avoid Reston town center whenever possible because of this. A slap in the face that they were too cheap to even add machines for paying. What if I didn't have a cell phone with me or were in a hurry? To 'heck' with you.
App makes me reverify through SMS or email in each login. It's just a wrapper for their website that does the same thing. Basically the login and register buttons do the same thing so far as I've seen
Have not been able to get a single validation code to work. Then on top of that I paid the fee and but still got a ticket. Poor execution
Such a horrible app. Actually couldn't shop due to fear of ticket.
This app wants the world for permissions. Generally a sign the developers don't know what they're doing and that you're installing a security time-bomb on your device. I'll be uninstalling as soon as I leave here and never coming back to RTC.
Besides the fact that they should not charge for parking (leading me to visit rtc much less frequently), this app makes me guess how long I'll be there in advance. How should I know? Also completely unclear how to use the validation feature - it requires me to enter a code before I've even stepped foot in the restaurant. Huh? Honestly, if rtc just gave the first two or three hours free, it would solve just about every problem.
First, no instruction on u up front) Second, no way to modify a transaction for which you have a validation code after time time expires. Third, a custom app for one place, am I really supposed to like this Fourth, they only allow you to rate the app 5 stars at the end of the transaction. I herd 2 people exclaim they don't intend to go back to Reston as a result of the parking experience.
Not sure what bean counters thought this was a good idea. But let me tell you. When you have so many choices, and you are faced with an idiotic 24x7 paid parking policy by RTC, you chose to do business elsewhere out of convenience. It's no surprise that all the restaurants in RTC are suffering because of this policy, and I'm afraid it will be too late before good restaurants chose someplace else to do business because customers don't want the hassle of paid parking after hours to eat or drink. Good luck RTC. I hope they fire whomever thought this was a good idea, and put someone in place that understands sales and customers, and eliminate this idiotic paid parking idea.
Just dropped Crunch Fitness membership because of it after being a loyal customer for over 2 years :( . Will not visit RTC anymore either!
Ridiculous permissions for a horrible app and having to pay to park to spend your money. I am moving out of Reston because of this.
Crap app that needs too much access. Basically RTC owns all the info on your phone if you install this app.
Never go to Reston Town center. Park system is confusing and pointess. App installed but card could not be processed. Life is not better with this app.
Awful awful awful when it comes to the validation process. The rest is easy, you could very easily architect a pay to park app off any of the others out there. Their focus to appease the residents they are screwing should have been on the validation process, instead Boston Properties strikes out again. And by strike out I mean count tens hundreds of thousands of dollars of your money. I don't even pay to park in Tyson's Corner. What a joke. Greedy bastards As a quick follow-up, I didn't realize after the first few times using the app retiscently, you can only extend your time on a per hour jnterval. Not a minute by minute or 15 minute intervals. From an app development standpoint, so easy. BOSTON P...All about the almighty $$$$

Not sure what all the complaints are about. I thought the app was simple enough. Install it and start it. Tell the app what zone (200 for the purple garage, and theyre all clearly marked), license plate number, and a nickname for the car. Then just specify the session length and a payment method, and start your session. I dont like having to pay to park at RTC either, but i didnt have any trouble with the app itself.
