Why is the Majella National Park so unique?
What is the reason? Are its imposing massifs? Is the Majella Mount with its unmistakable shape of a big beached whale very close to the Adriatic Sea, or the Morrone Mount rich in small places of worship built by saints and hermits during the centuries?
Are the Cannella Valleyâs desolate, rocky and dry landscapes or the deep canyons carved by Orta, Orfento and Avello rivers? Are the Amaro Mount and Acquaviva Mount peaks â some of the highest peaks of the Apennines â or the irregular outlines of the Pizzi and Porrara Mounts surrounding the mountain region of the Altipiani Maggiori of Abruzzo?
Are the big animals of its fauna elsewhere extinct or the delicate Soldanella Minima that chose these places as its only habitat in the world?
All these and lots more are the reasons why the Majella National Park is so unique. It is a territory where the climate change, due to the altitude and the irregular orography, created different habitats, from the typical Mediterranean environment of the piedmont valleys to the rocky grasslands of the high altitudes.
