Fish cultivation

Fish cultivation is one form of aquaculture that specifically cultivates fish in tanks or enclosed spaces, usually to produce food, ornamental fish, and recreation (fishing). The most widely cultivated fish are carp, salmon, catfish, and tilapia (a kind of tilapia).

There is a high demand for fish worldwide causing overfishing in the fishing sector. Fish cultivation provides an alternative source of fish supply. However, carnivorous fish cultivation such as salmon does not necessarily reduce the capture fisheries business because the nutrients required by salmon are specific and often difficult to cultivate, such as small fish containing fish oil that is the main prey of salmon in the wild. But scientists have now developed a plant-based alternative feed for carnivorous fish farming.
