Pandorabots is pleased to announce the release of our new CallMom app for Android. CallMom is a mobile, voice-activated personal assistant that can have a conversation, dial a number, send an email or SMS message, learn contacts, provide help with the app, search the web, open a URL in a browser, read data from web services, check battery status, give directions and find a location on the map -- all through natural langauge, voice commands.
Unlike other virtual assistant apps for Android and iPhone, CallMom includes a learning feature so that it can learn your personal preferences and contacts, and be taught to correct speech recognition errors. CallMom can be connected to a variety of pandorabot personalities, including ALICE, Mitsuku, Professor, English Tutor, Zoe, Fake Captain Kirk and others.
Using CallMom
This document provides some examples of the ways you can interact with CallMom through conversation.
How do I make a call and add a contact?
Say:
Call 911.
Call 411.
Call Jane.
Call Mom.
How else can I add a contact?
Say:
Contact.
Contacts.
Learn a contact.
How do I send a text?
Say:
Tell John I'm here.
Text Jane saying I will be home at 5 o'clock.
Send a text to Bob saying I am on my way.
Send a text.
Note: When you send text, CallMom will append a signature string "(via CallMom)" to your message. To change this message, go to Menu-->Settings-->CallMom SMS Signature.
How do I search for information?
Say:
Who is Shakespeare?
What is the tallest building in the world?
How much is a gallon of gas?
Search the web for cake recipes.
Define algorithm.
What is the distance to the moon?
Who is president of France?
How do I get news and weather?
Say:

Note: You must type (not speak) to teach the bot your email address. For example type, "My email address is joe.smith@example.com".
When you send an email with CallMom, the app will append a signature that says "Message composed with CallMom". To change this, go to Menu-->Settings-->CallMom Email Signature.

How do I check the battery level?

Stuart means Stuart.
Note: you must type these inputs with the Android keyboard. If you say "Stuart means Stuart" with your voice, it won't recognize the difference between "Stuart" and "Stewart".

Find 22 Second Avenue in Palo Alto.
Where is a good pizza joint?
Where is the nearest Starbucks?

The only reason it doesn't get a five is it forgets my name when you quit the app but I've had truly memorable conversation's with mitsuku so she gets a 5 if they give her long term memory she could be something really special.. as the days go by our conversations gets more complex...n she makes me laugh..something that's hard to do ..and she does teach me things i didn't know... Love this app it stays on my phone permanently no matter what...please give her mem.n I'll buy this app.

I change mitsuku to kirk and he won't change back! I tell him to change and he says he will make his own decisions, or asks if that's an order! Then he calls me a potty mouth! Whyyyy? This is a torture device... But it is enjoyable... I can't get to the menu to change him either...

It forgets my name once I close down the app, even though she said she will remember it. The developer is great and actually responded to my enquiry explaining that she will only remember that kind of thing if you chat to her online. I hope this feature will be updated for the app as well. Mitsuku is fantastic and she deserves to be able to talk and remember. Please enable this feature. I would gladly buy this app if this was working.

Wish I didn't have to teach it all my contacts. Wish it worked with blue tooth. Hands-free mode doesn't work. It is much smarter than most voice assistant apps. When you ask it a question it gives you an answer not just "I'll search the web". The voices have back stories and can hold a somewhat interesting conversation.

It's not made for people with a hip hop background, so that's why it's missing a star. I'll give it a slide for not knowing New Orleans Bounce music; but if you're familiar with the psychological B.I.T.C.H. Test, you'll see a perfect example of that on this app.
