The National for Android
Nexus 6P, this app seems to just hang with the spinning animation. Pressing download changes the button to downloading but nothing happens, the downloads tab remains empty. Works well on my tablet just disappointed I can't use it on my phone.
Being able to see the whole paper is really useful to enable you to find articles of interest. However it's let down by a few issues: zooming in on a page is initially quite difficult - it often fails to respond to sliding two fingers apart and I have to make several attempts; if the phone rotates and then rotates back, the zoom state is lost; on a small screen, the page thumbnail numbers obscure so much of the thumbnail that it's unusable.
This app has become very annoying the last few weeks, it can take a few hours or even till the next day before it loads, then at times i end up with todays front cover edition but end up with yesterdays edition loading on app ! (Samsung S6 - Android v7)
I like to do crosswords and Sudoku but it's impossible on this app. I can't fill in the blank boxes and I can't print the page to fill it in either. Very poorly thought out.
There's no need to get my contacts info. I've uninstalled it now because it wouldn't load without access to my contacts. Remove this option.
Can't get it to work with my subscription why?
The website is far far more mobile friendly than this app. I don't really care for having the same layout as the print version, as pinching and zooming to read is tiring. Please bring back the daily email summary, I miss that.
Downloadable apps must be sd movable as they steal internal phone space therefore pathetic excuses as an app. Avoid this app until as movable.
I already subscribe to The National, but now find that, having downloaded the app (,to which I thought I was already entitled) you intend charging me a further £12.99 for the app! I don't think so! Cancel the Google Play app for The National app and stop sending me emails which keep asking me to download it. You must have obtained my email address from my subscription to the excellent newspaper, but stop taking the p ---!
The ability to read the paper offline is great. However, even if the issue has been downloaded previously, the app needs to go online an additional time to check the subscription. That is not the normal meaning of offline.
I like this app, the pages load faster, can zoom into the pages much better making it easier to read, being able to download and read offline is a god send, nothing worse waiting on any app loading when your out and about with a slow internet connection or dead spot. Also handy having a "share" option included... Cheers 10/10

Whoops! Looks good but as a paying online subscriber already I ain't paying another 20p per copy just to have it in a wee handy app. I'll survive without the app and support the Indy cause in other ways. Uninstalled. Thanks.
I could get to shop to buy a copy in the time this app takes to start up! Not impressed!
Decent app

Why does this application request permissions to access my contacts and also manage/make calls!? This is a newspaper viewer - absolutely no need to know that sort of data. To anyone installing - you don't have to accept these in order to run and use the app. Don't let them gather your data.
