App has worked 100% of the time on my S7. Only had to enter the password once. When I open the app it verifies my subscription is active and I can start viewing today's paper immediately. Zooming in on articles is great, you can either zoom in or click to view as text and it seamlessly takes you through the article. If you stay zoomed in you can navigate to the next article without zooming out.

Nice idea, but multiple issues. Sometimes the menu for going directly to a section doesn't work. On my Samsung S2 tablet, the settings don't include the 'storage' setting to automatically free up space by deleting old papers. My device had 8 months 10GB of papers! Had to uninstall & reinstall.

I70%
by I####:

The app for the Boston Globe E-Paper works great on my Samsung 7. The app brings up a full copy of the Globe as it is printed. In order to read an article, simply click on the article you want to read and the entire article appears with no need to turn pages of the paper - just scroll down to read the entire article; click your back arrow to return to the page. The upper right corner contains the link to other sections. Click on the link to navigate to any section you want. Based on the negative reviews, I almost didn't download the app. The combination of the revised edition and new equipment makes this very worthwhile. Nest project is to get the E-paper to work on my wife's I-Pad,

by F####:

Would be nice if the app did anything but show a blank screen upon opening. Sometimes it'll say "Loading …" in the center. But I never get past this screen. I can't even try to troubleshoot because there is nothing I can do beyond opening the app. The Globe really needs to do better.

P70%
by P####:

This is really the worst UI I've ever seen for a paper. Reminds me of e-readers from the late 90's. It would probably be better if they didn't even have an app rather than have the Globe associated with something this bad.

U70%
by U####:

If I turn the page more than 2 or 3 times, there is lag of up to 30-60 seconds before the next set of pages can be displayed. I can then display the next couple of pages with no problem, and then I get another lag of up to 30 - 60 before the next few pages can be loaded. I love the Globe compared to the Herald, but this is unworkable.

U70%
by U####:

Given the importance of online access to newspapers these days, and the fact tgat this app is used by paid subscribers, you'd think the Globe would get this right. On my Samsung tablet, this app crashes frequently and is often unable to load certain pages.

U70%
by U####:

What a mess. I installed it and apparently doesn't work with Nougat. Brings you to the supplement page with no way to get the paper. Not good in the digital age.....

Update: still busted, download for offline almost never works. FIX !!! This is unacceptable! They broke it. The new version is so terrible it is hard to describe. For example, I downloaded a paper. I'm now disconnected from the net. And now I can't read it? Just terrible. Fix it already!!! Update: 5/3/2016 - still terrible. And today it just won't download the paper at all. 8/28/16 it got better for 2 months, now doesn't work at all with Android 7. Won't complete download. 6/1/17 - works most of the time now. sometimes have to force quit, but it does get the paper now most of the time.

by U####:

Why does this app continue to lock me down to the July 2012 issue? I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times and have an active Globe account. I've been able to download exactly one current issue. Please fix!

L70%
by L####:

This version introduced a new problem that was not in the previous one. You cannot read articles that span 2 pages because the order is reversed in the 2 page view.

U70%
by U####:

Updated: I have resubscribed, but got the print version as well, because I want to support good journalism. The app is better than it was a year ago, in that, I can now actually read the paper. The user interface still need a lot of work though.

U70%
by U####:

This app appears to function differently every time I use it. The wrong stories appear when an article is tapped or the story won't explode at all. There's either an app or compiling issue. Either way it's disappointing.

U70%
by U####:

This app is a joke. Please update so its like any other app from wsj new York times business insider. Google news. Check out of those out. No one wants to read a scan of a newspaper. Thanks

V70%
by V####:

Really funky old style app. I'm amazed that a paper as respectable as the Boston Globe doesn't have a more modern, readable interface. Love the paper, not the app.

E70%
by E####:

I am usually able to read articles, but the app is very slow, unwieldy, and buggy.

U70%
by U####:

I HAVE A HARD TIME DOWNLOADING THE GLOBE. I PAY FOR A SUBSCRIPTION. IT TAKES FOREVER TO DOWNLOAD. ALL MY OTHER PAPERS ARE VERY QUICK

U70%
by U####:

A clunky way to access the Globe on mobile -- I'd prefer a more traditional news app like the WSJ's or Wasington Post. But it's totally functional and the articles pop out so they can be more easily read.

U70%
by U####:

Caution. This app costs $27 per month and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled at least once a week

U70%

Was always buggy. Doesn't work at all now.

Perfect ... But mini ... Version of the daily news paper for my android phone. Wish they had one for my Kindle Fire.

This app works great now, after the latest release of version 4.4.4. It now downloads issues every day without requiring app reinstalls. One additional enhancement to user experience is that the entire recreated newspaper page shows in the tablet screen window now so you can see headlines and ads at bottom of page without being required to scroll down. Previously, only top 70% of page was visible as default view. This may not seem like much, but it definitely improves usability/productivity with app and brings app even closer to experience of the hardcopy newspaper. Well done.

There's a reason this app has only 5000 downloads. The app went from buggy to broken over the past year. Now I can't get past the splash screen, which blinks every 30 seconds or so. I was disappointed with tech support, as when I asked for help with bugs, they pretty much said I wasn't using the app right. I defy them to show me what they think I'm doing wrong now.

M70%
by M####:

OMG...how frustrating...tap on an article to read it only to find you can not get back to the app home page on my LG tablet. Swipe down to get the menu? Sorry...that just doesn't work! Uninstalled for good.

M70%
by M####:

Slower, buggy, page is erratic. What happened to link to page jump? That doesn't seem to be working. In no way does this feel like an improvement. UPDATE-ten months (Oct. 2016) later, still terrible

M70%
by M####:

Uses 2GB even after deleting all downloaded papers. Probably have to reinstall to get down to a reasonable size. It does work OK on my old Nexus 10. Now it's downloading and archiving issues even though I'm only reading online and was at 305mb this morning. Deleted the two downloads and it's back to 111mb. Less buggy than before, though. 12/7 - It's bloated back up to 188 mb without any downloads!

Sometimes works on weekdays. Dont bother trying on Sundays. Someone got paid to create this useless app? Apparently no plans to ever fix it.

Unbelievable! Last update was an improvement. I can read the paper again

M70%

I can login to my account via a browser but not this app. Only the front page loads and it loads slowly at that. I'll be unistalling this one as fast as I can.

This version fixes a problem in the previous ones. Now It does free up the space when you delete old issues.

M70%

The app is constantly having issues. Either it doesn't load to read or it crashes.

M70%
by M####:

That was a great feature. This was an unnecessary change.

Y70%

I've used a few of these newspaper apps over the years. This actually is a good, thoughtful piece of software and I enjoy

M70%
by M####:

I can't read the paper anymore on this app; the edition loads forever without displaying. This has been ongoing for over a month. I used to read the Globe every day on my phone, but now I hardly even check the app to see if it will work today - the bigger question is, why am I still paying for my subscription?

S70%

Once we got to nougat, has never worked for me. Keeps hanging at the download. Have reinstalled and cleared cache several times now. Please fix!
