Padi adalah grup musik legendaris dari Indonesia yang anggotanya terdiri dari Ari (gitar), Fadly (vokal), Yoyo (drum), Rindra (bas), dan Piyu (gitar). Grup musik ini memulai debut mereka di dunia musik Indonesia pada penghujung tahun 1990-an melalui singel Sobat dalam album kompilasi indie ten, dan dianggap membawa warna baru dalam dunia musik Indonesia. Jalur musik yang dipilih adalah pop-rock-kreatif. Pada awal kemunculannya, corak musik Padi sering dibandingkan dengan U2 dan Radiohead.

Motor utama grup ini adalah Piyu, yang menjalankan fungsi sentral sebagai komposer musik dan lirikus hampir seluruh lagu. Namun kekuatan utama Padi terletak pada penguasaan instrumen para personelnya yang memiliki karakter dan kemampuan teknis jauh di atas rata-rata musisi dalam berbagai band Indonesia. Personel Padi diisi oleh jawara berbagai kejuaraan instrumen musik. Selepas dalam kondisi vakum, Piyu memilih mengembangkan kreativitas sendiri, sedangkan personel lainnya membentuk Musikimia yang menjalani proses bermusik secara indipenden.

Dibentuk 8 April 1997, grup ini merupakan wadah kreativitas seni lima mahasiswa Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. Semula bernama 'Soda', namun kemudian diganti menjadi 'Padi' ("Padi makanan orang susah," demikian kata salah seorang personalnya). Nama ini dipilih juga karena bersifat "sangat membumi". Lebih jauh, mereka tidak hanya mengambil filosofinya saja, semakin berisi semakin merunduk, tapi juga melihat fungsinya yang melambangkan kesejahteraan.
