Night Owl HD for Android
Since the update, I can no longer select from HD - clear and SD - smooth. I am using the Samsung Galaxy s7. Never had an issue prior to new update. Submitted an email to Nightowl and they advised me that the glitch is with new Android software and leave a comment to see it could be resolved on your end.
This needs to be fixed! Clearly there are tons of people having the same issues. I've done everything in my power to get my stream to show on my phone app and nothing works. Don't advertise mobile viewing when people cannot view from then app!! Don't bother giving me some 1800# to call either. I went through customer service when my DVR went bad after 4 months. Worse customer service ever!
About once a week I have to completely reboot my system in order for it to reconnect again. Sometimes I have to go as far uninstalling this app and reinstalling to get it to work. Very frustrating as I got this system to keep an eye on my property when out of town and it does not work on my mobile device most of the time.
I'm a homeowner with my DVR connected to my big screen TV. It is a pain trying to adjust settings on my TV screen & entering the password every few minutes. Settings should be accessible from my PC, like on Swann systems. And now, with each weekly update, my mobile devices are knocked off, have to reboot DVR.
The quality of the cameras are great. However, the app is very unreliable -- especially over the last week or so. It has been very frustrating not being able to check my cameras using my phone. Based on the other reviews, I'm not the only one. I could not recommend this manufacturer to anyone else.
App force closes if you rotate the screen on galaxy s7 edge and also on galaxy s8+. Also I have to repeatedly reenter which cameras is like to view in which box. And now. Nothing is showing up period. Not even my dvr box. For the price they've come a long way. But they still have a ways also. Rendered camera viewing from your phone a total waste of money.
It was working fine until the latest update, now my phone won't connect. When hitting detect as recommended it says unable to find latest version. Might as well use a different brand. Still will not work after doing everything they said to troubleshoot, I will be shopping for a system that actually works remotely. Did everything they said to get this to reconnect mobile. I'm choosing one of the better security systems.
Awesome app! Haven't had any issues. Blows competition away IMO. I've tried Zosi and Swann DVR systems with their mobile apps and they can't compare to the speed, quality, features and ease of use of the Night Owl. I just wish this app would save video in MP4 format rather than AVI.
Been using it for 6 months now. The cameras work great but the apps are horrible, spotty connectivity, cumbersome and difficult to use. Suggest a serous re-write with the customer in mind rather than from an engineers perspective. The app on cell seems to work better than the tablet.
The older version of this app was not perfect but it actually worked. The new version is locked to landscape mode, sorry but no one uses their phone in landscape mode, whoever made this decision just killed your company, I can assure you anyone who buys your products now will return them!!! Please bring back the old app or the old interface!!! You still have screenshots of the old interface on this app, why?!? Is it possible to get this app out or landscape mode or not??? I want to return my system now.
Edit..[TIP: make sure STATIC is checked in network settings..my settings changed after 3 weeks and app wouldnt work because it wasn't checked....luckily had taken a pic & changed it back.] ....Was amazed at how fast I was up & running and remote veiwing..A little different than what I'm used to..but I'm sure it will grow on me over time
The only negative I have to say it that I wish we could zoom in on the image and that the screen didn't go dim within a few seconds. If you are viewing they should have a setting in the app so the screen does not go dark.
When it's working, I'm satisfied. However the app disconnects very often while I'm not at home on wifi and away from my house (when I need it to work the most). Sometimes it disconnects even while I am at home. This happened the day after I installed it. I had to call the help line and they instructed me to uninstall the app and reinstall it. So they got it working again. I've had this system installed for about a month now and I've lost connection 2 - 3 times a week. Very frustrating!!!!
You guys have numerous reports stating the connection problems. I would never have bought this product if I knew I couldn't properly use it. How can I think k my house is safe if I can't even connect to the cameras on my phone. This is a huge problem.
So far so good. Cameras, dvr, & app all work great. One dire need though is the ability to change notification sounds so I can silence. I need notifications from only one camera for safety of dog around the pool. I get lots of notifications at night due to bugs (I have the sensitivity adjust just right) wich is ok but I want to silence the sound. Please update?
Remote playback is a total joke. Can't cue up specific time slots without freezing the app, and will not let me view on my tablet anymore, saying"password error" after I tried and failed to get the system to work on my laptop. Tech support took weeks to reply and could only offer a 1-800# as a solution. Needless to say, I'll be buying a different security system.
This had worked reasonably well for about a year. Sometime in the last few weeks it stopped working. It never loads the video. We updated the firmware and have restarted our router and dvr which used to fix the issue in the past. Edit: I see a response was posted that tells me to do exactly what I said I had already done...not very helpful.
Just like everyone else on here. Was working great and now i cannot view my cameras from my phone. Waste of 600 dollars and a shotload of work installing it. Should of went with schwan and i knew it. Its obviously the app. Developers call the 1800# and one of your representatives will be happy to assist you. Your app needs jesus
Everything was fine until yesterday! I can no longer access my cameras via the app! What happened? Called Tech Support and they tried to blame my ISP. But ironically an hour after them telling me nothing was wong with the P2P Server on their end, everything started working fine! I do this kind of stuff and more for a living, just don't try and BS me. Tell me the truth.
App connected to DVR 2 or 3 times and after rotating the tabled keeps crashing. Even re-installing did not solve the issue. With that, the app is not stable and I cannot recommend the product.
It had been working perfectly for the longest time and now with this latest update I can't view my camera's on any of my devices, not even on my Apple products. What gives? It says connected and then loads the video windows but no video is displayed.
App only connects about 10% of the time. Very disappointed in their system. Called customer service only for them to tell us we need to be at the location for them to help. However, when we're at the location connected to the same router it works fine. We got this for the ability to access the cameras remotely. App doesn't work and doesn't seem to be getting fixed anytime soon.
terrible. the app will work good one day and the next week you can't view your cameras at all. spend the extra money and buy a better security system,seriously. the quality is good but the set up was hell and one of my cameras don't even work. only reason I give it 2 stars is because of the picture quality
Works great on two computers. Not working so great on our phones and one ipad. What I'm most unhappy about is how I was treated by support when I contacted them. This is headed for the refund bin. I hate when you follow instrutions, do everything right and stuff still doesn't work!
Overall, I think this is a very good camera app. Although, it is lacking a few features. The biggest being you can't go back and review your notifications. The app does not keep a history of notifications events. You also can't permanently set whether or not to view the video in SD or HD. You have to set it to HD every single time. Other than that, I really like this app. With a few improvements it could be five-star.
I like the cameras easy to install have good angle stay in place picture is clear day and night. But push notifications don't work. Set up email to deal with this motion capture is spotty at best. Sometimes it sends email for no reason sometimes when someone is on the property it does not send an email. Have been playing with sensitivity may get it right sometime.
This app is good except for the background battery/cpu usage on a S7 edge. Something is wrong with the app, it consumes up to 40% of my battery running the background with a total of 10 push notifications a day. Opens and connects reliably. It is able to skip to the next alarm event better then my lorex app. I wish it allowed a digital zoom on non ptz cameras like the flir app. It also needs the option to allow multiple camera playback of recorded footage for the powerful mobile devices available today.
Everything was working perfectly until the last update. For some reason now I can only watch One camera at a time. Every time I try to click on any Square other than the first Square it will load whatever camera I select right back onto the first Square and leave me without view of any other cameras. Tried resetting my router tried resetting my DVR and tried uninstalling and reinstalling this app. It also freezes a lot now for some reason when it didn't before. Is there anyway to download prior versions?
Night owl system works awsome. Love it! Easy to install, easy to manage using the dvr. The app works good but has some glitches on my Samsung s5 active. Just the video playback is hard to use. Doesn't playback very smooth and is very hard to scroll to the spot you want to play. Works awsome on iPhones without any glitches. Would definitely recommend this system.
We have the app on 2 Samsung Android phones, a Samsung tablet and an iPad. Everything works great at home or away via data, for viewing live or playback. The only problem we have is on the notifications are very rare on the three android devices. We won't get any notifications for days, then they will start working for a few notifications then stop working again. This happens on all 3 Android devices. No problem on the iPad, where we get them all.
This app does not work!! There are many reviews on this, but Night owl has not provided a solution. I have tried rebooting/resetting my router, uninstalling/reinstalling the App. I am using a Samsung S5. It only worked once when I first installed it about a month ago. Can someone provide a tangible solution, or is better to just return it to Costco?
Sometimes the playback freezes on the phone but overall this is quite the package, could be user error. The hardest thing was making holes to pass the wires. Once you're up, the system is fast, always on and playback is easy. The cameras have a great angle. Only wish we could zoom in application. Fantastic! Six stars, highly recommend night owl for your home or office. First to reply to one of my posts, shows the company cares for our satisfaction and is listening on how to improve it. Very happy customer!!
Super clear picture with the 1080p Night Owl cameras. Even on my phone. The app usually works great, but for some reason, it won't connect to my DVR sometimes. I know my internet is working. But this issue comes and goes. Not sure what else i can do to fix this and stream all the time.
Wrote the other day to say I can barely connect through my phones. Now won't connect at ALL. No one gave me any answers. I'm out a lot of money on this unit. Would be nice to be usable, as I can no longer return it all... Not a happy customer at this point..
I absolutely careless for Q-see and hope that Night Owl isn't Q-see sister. I've just finished install Night Owl and so far so good. 2 things I hope you'd improve. 1. Turning of the camera to get the angle can be a little more smooth. 2. App setting password. My setup password is more than 8 characters the the app can only accept exactly 8 characters. It won't work if I put in all of my password characters which is fine but there's no instructions anywhere. I had to call Costco Concierge for this.
App works fine on my Motorola phone, but very poor on my Samsung Galaxy tab. Every time I open the app I have to go to devices and click save without changing anything before it connects to the cameras. Playback does not work as it should. Fast forward does not work. After doing playback I have to reconnect before viewing live again.
App worked fine until last week's Android update. Now I can't even view my cameras on Wi-Fi or over the air. Seems like Night Owl needs to do something to tbeir app to get it to work again. Tried deleting the app and redownloading. DVR is up to date. Restarted it. Nothing works. Bug in the app. Please fix asap!!!!
Night Owl HD live view is terrible it won't stay connected to some Android phones each time you want to live view you have to practically setup the phone to view again. I installed for a friend and I tried calling customer service and they practically want a DNA sample to talk to me.
Not again.... So I can't view from my andriod. This is a reoccurring issue that I guess I paid for. However, at this point I am now in the market for a better system. I will never again recommend this trash to another soul. I could be getting burglarized but I wouldn't even know it. Sad Cuz why even have cameras. Most certainly not for the looks. Fix my system for crying out loud. This is BULLSHYT.

I had the higher end system installed that i got from costco. For about a month i was able to view remotely. Since then i have not been able to view anything from my android phone, ipad, or iphone. This is rediculous and is bullshit that the company hasnt been trying to fix this issue
